Thoughts on recent episodes · 4:17am Dec 31st, 2013
Now that I've put my "S" key back together, I thought I'd give some quick thoughts on recent episodes based on memory. On one hand it's intended for girls, but on the other hand, we're all watching it, so here goes, from 4-4 to 4-7. Spoilers ahoy:
Daring Don't:
Interesting premise gets weird when we find out AK Yearling is Daring Do. So it's like if J. K. Rowling was Harry Potter. Kind of distracting, and it makes the episode seem offbalance. I loved Pony Belloq. I don't care what his name is, I'm calling him Pony Belloq. Way cooler than that blue thing. Finally, the message was great. I'm one of the fans thats not all that impressed by the messages (not that they're not good, just not incredible or unique), but I thought the message was a rare gem among messages for kids. Otherwise, a decent episode, but not a fav.
Flight to the Finish:
I enjoy the CMC plenty. This episode was okay. Decent little arc for Scootaloo with a decent message. Didn't care about Rainbow Dash or the Stuffy official with the obvious joke at the end, but it isn't that bad. M+'s (Meh plusses) all around, including the song. (EDIT: On re-watch it's way better)
Power Ponies:
So here we have the long awaited Superhero episode. Really wanted more, but they only had twenty minutes, what can you do? Pinkie Pie is the Flash, neat, Rarity is the Green Lantern, sweet, Applejack is Wonder Woman (kinda'), meh, Rainbow Dash is Storm, *mildly disappointed sigh*, Fluttershy is the Hulk, AWESOME!, and Twilight is... I don't really know, Iceman?, whatever. Spike is the powerless sidekick, and unfortunately, it's his episode and he has nothing to do but learn an obvious lesson. That Medusa Pony was kind of funny, I hope she comes back, but she's a comic book character, so not likely (EDIT: I only just realized how ironic that statement sounds out-of-context). Disappearing comic book likely to never be mentioned again. Oh well.
Bats:
Just finished watching this one. Applejack contends with Vampire Fruit Bats that suck her family's apple crops dry while Fluttershy contends with her over a crisis of conscience. Pretty good song near beginning, but did everyone have to join in towards the end? Would you believe MLP does the Wallace and Gromit movie and I like it? Huh. A new surprise every day. A fun episode that may be my favorite so far of this season. (EDIT: On re-watch it's way worse.)
