Happy Holidays and 'Bats' review · 10:45pm Dec 29th, 2013
Well hope you are all enjoying Christmas as much as I am. Been a hectic few days. Meeting family. Traveling around. Going out with friends etc.
The Christmas chapter (I suppose that’s what one would call it) will most likely bee up in the next two days or so. Jan 3rd at latest. So there’s that.
Also the episode ‘Bats’. Yeah if I’m to be honest I found it alright but not great either. Applejack’s song was the exception of course. The plot was not an exception in this regard.
Some bats come and ruin the orchard because that’s what bats do and AJ’s having none of it because it might ruin her obviously chemically altered mega apple that wouldn’t at all be suspicious in an apple competition. I mean it’s only about a good foot bigger than her. All natural I say.
So instead of getting real exterminators or animal control to deal with it, AJ being miserly decides to recruit the girls to help with the use of a catchy song. I mean friends are just another form of cheap labour right? Fluttershy tries to counter this with her own song but the girls side with AJ because hers was better.
Later the walking deus ex machina that is Twilight Sparkle finds a spell to solve everything. It backfires. Who honestly didn’t see that coming? Fluttershy becomes a weird fruit eating monster to which has a cool design but little punch to it otherwise. It’s a bit wasted in this episode. Poor Fluttershy, she’s become the monster of two episodes back to back. Oh and we get some cool magic show by Twilight explaining everything. Because using words is overrated when you have magic! The girls get a fright because apparently fighting an evil undead king last season is less scary than a rather harmless ‘vampire’. They save Fluttershy in the end…or do they? And that’s it really.
Overall not bad, not fantastic either. I didn’t enjoy this as much as the last. I felt it had little real substance to it. The events in it just kind of happened. It resolved and that was it. Also what’s with all the stingers? Is this leading to something? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
