...what would it be like, if I stopped being a mod?
I mean, the site won't fall into chaos. Meeester and the others have the approving down, and sure there's hiccups here and there, but those guys are awesome at what they do. And fast.
knighty and Xaquseg admin the whole thing, as they should... Alexstrazsa is still around, lurking and committing evils unspoken of... what would it be like... not having to worry about talking to people to make sure a rule is followed? Not having to go in and defuse fights, or PM admins from different groups, or even doing blog posts promoting groups or understanding of tags/genres/rules?
There would still be announcements. Obs would write them, with his gentle-as-ether fake beard, softly caressing the users while whispering in amiable tones why they should change their ways, or simply agreeing with them until they all agree. Or something. He has his methods. He's polite in any case.
Just be a regular, opinionated user who doesn't have to back up anyone and simply bitch at knighty for something innocuous like... uh... the little two lines on the corner of the text box where I'm writing. Yeah. Bad knighty. And all that.
What would that be like?
Maybe I'll just follow Manny's advice: "Add a dab of lavender to milk; leave town with an orange, and pretend you're laughing at it." See where that takes me.
Or maybe I'll start a harem. I'm still undecided.

in all seriousness, nothing much would change. the people who liked you for either your stories or cuz they liked hanging with you will keep on liking you. any and all suckups/people with hateboners for any authority would fuck off to somemod else. the staff will have a harder time dealing with the users because, like it or not, one less mod to help around= one less mod to help around.
I like the idea of a harem. But remember they had a Head Mistress of a Harem traditionally for a reason. Or if you want a Marem, then you'd have less problems. But yeah if you were to stop being a moderator then you'd have tons more free time. Less messages from peeps b17<h1ng about one thing or another. And more time to focus on your writing, or irl stuffs.
On the other hoof. Alot of the interesting stories and behind the scenes things that pop up from time to time as a mod you'd be missing out on. If being a mod here is like any other group. Then you'd have less say on what happens on the site, and will be as in the dark about site votes as the rest of us. Unless you have someone who'll keep you in the loops.
Regardless. I wish you the best of luck in your endevours and choice you end up picking. Also Happy Belated X-Mas.

I believe being a moderator takes quite some time away. It's a task filled with... thing, I suppose? You get power but you also get responsibilities (insert shmacky Spider-Man pun here).

Why don't you make an alt and pretend to be "normal" for a bit? Write some random stories, don't tell anyone about it, be a normal dude for a bit, and see what happens?
I like messing around with my own alt when I get bored. It's pretty fun.

I should imagine that if you stopped being a mod then the writing and etiquette guides on the site would be significantly less entertaining and if there's one thing we need it's to trick bad writers into learning how to improve.
