New "Wind Thief" story, sequel updates, and other writing things · 9:14pm Dec 21st, 2013
So here's something that hasn't happened in a while: there's a new chapter over in The Wind Thief.
Side Quest: The Word Wall
The new chapter is a stand-alone "side quest" that takes place several months after the events of The Wind Thief, and a few weeks before the first chapter of the sequel. Think of this as a short story to segue us into the new story.
I'm still hard at work on The Wind Thief's sequel, The City in the Shadow of Night. I expect to start publishing around the New Year or shortly afterward. I've been stewing over this story for almost two years, and I can't wait to see it come together.
In unrelated news, my buddy Bad Horse has been hard at work blogging over the past few weeks. At least once a day, sometimes several times a day, he can be counted on to post some insights into the art of writing, much like my blog on sentence length the other day. BH is an outstanding writer who has something special: a deep and fluent understanding of the mechanics of writing at almost all levels of the craft. Many authors here, including myself, tend to be intuitive in our writing; that is, we do something because it sounds or feels right. With BH, he can sit down and tell you exactly why that passage you don't think 'feels right' is bad, and how you can fix it.
Go give him a look. It's worth your time and a follower slot.
Finally, if you're looking for a good read, I'm happy to recommend DGD Davidson's newest short story, Love on the Reef. It has almost everything I look for in a story: real conflict, strong emotions, gain, suffering and loss.
So why can't he fix his own stories, then?
Some folks have started following me around and telling me I have to blog at least once a day. Is this to get back at me for messing up the Skype call? The "once a day" thing is only while I'm supposed to be incommunicado , but can't do anything except read and sit at the keyboard all day.
Thanks!
