The Philosophy of Pie... Or "Things I Learned From Watching Pinkie Pie"

    1. Let your imagination get away from you; it will come back with cake.

FiMFic Reviews: Turnabout Storm Adaptation... Or "The Victim's Autopsy Report"

From October 2011 to October 2013, a series of videos was released under the unifying banner of Turnabout Storm, a fan-crossover series between My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and the Ace Attorney video game series, produced by NeoArtimus. The project as a whole was a success as far as fanworks go, inspiring plenty of fanart, pseudo-sequels, and reaction/commentary

FiMFic Reviews: Nightmare Night Special... Or "The Creature Double Feature"

Before the introduction of Thorax in “The Times, They are A-Changeling,” speculation on changelings was everywhere: How did they live; were there many hives or just the one; was love the only emotion they could feed on; did individual changelings have personalities of their own; the list goes on. Luckily, the fandom never stops at simply asking these questions, and with a variety of mediums to

FiMFic Reviews: The Music of Ponyville... Or "The Alternate AU"

If you’ve followed me for a long time, you’ll know I have a soft spot in my heart for the Alternate Mane 6 subgenre. Stories where the characters we know and love from the show are changed somewhat, if not outright replaced, have a lot of creative potential, giving both writers and readers a chance to explore a new perspective on the same basic outline. And while I could go down the obvious path

B!verse Blogs Special: Twilight Sparkle · 4:06am Dec 16th, 2013

WARNING! The following blog contains spoilers for My Little Background Pony: New Neighbors, as well as the Backgroundverse in general. Do not read if you have not read this story!

So, a little over a week ago, I got this comment from Brotaku Dblade. (Edit: The name has since changed

so if these six took care of NMM why is twilight even here

*grammar preserved for original effect*

This is in reference to the fact that Twilight Sparkle is still a character in the B!verse, albeit without the same role she plays in the canon series. Despite being just like that version of Twilight. Even going as far as living in the same town.

I was going to address this in a future story and hope that no one would really notice until then. But if this comment is any indication, some won’t be able to suspend their disbelief for that long. So to put those people’s minds at ease, as well as those who are beginning to wonder themselves, here is a quick info sheet regarding B!verse Twilight Sparkle.

Twilight Sparkle

Twilight is a unicorn with a love of knowledge. She’s a prodigy of magic and a graduate from Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns.

Twilight spent much of her foalhood reading about magic and magical theory. Her aptitude for the subject did not go unnoticed by her parents, who decided to enroll the young filly at CSGU. Twilight was thrilled at being able to attend the most prestigious magic school in Equestria, but she still had to pass the entrance exam: hatching a dragon egg.

Being as young and inexperienced as she was, Twilight could not even create more than a simple spark in trying to hatch the egg. In the end, she admitted she couldn’t do it and apologized for wasting the examiners’ time. About a day after the exam, she got a letter from the school.

(a/n This next part delves into my personal headcanon of the exam, so bear with me on this. Or just shrug it off as AU logic. Whichever’s more comfortable.)

Evidently, the egg-hatching exam was all but a deceptive sleight; nopony expected any of the applicants to succeed in the first place; otherwise, the school would not only seem incredibly empty, but would be half-populated with dragons. What the examiners were looking for was determination and outside-the-box thinking. The letter went on to say that, if anything, Twilight was actually the applicant who was closest to hatching the egg. To put it in simpler terms, Twilight was accepted into the school.

Because of the results of her exam, Twilight was able to take more advanced courses than a filly her age. Also, as a reward for her “success,” she was given the egg to take care of. It hatched almost a year later after testing several methods, magical or otherwise. The baby dragon, who she named Spike, would grow to become Twilight’s study partner and assistant.

Twilight graduated magna cum laude from the school, but she didn’t want her learning to end there. She decided to go into research and scholarship. After an internship at the Canterlot Royal Library, she decided to move to a place that was relatively unheard of in order to broaden her mental horizons. She eventually found the Golden Oaks Library in Ponyville. There, she worked as the assistant to the head librarian, Paper Back. Because the old mare was getting on in years, Paper eventually decided to retire and left the library in Twilight’s care.

Throughout much of her early years and even her schooling, Twilight was kind of a shut-in; she mostly kept to herself, except for Spike, engrossed in her studies and research. Moving to Ponyville, however, being such a close-knit community, tended to force her into social, and sometimes awkward, situations. Eventually, she warmed up to her new neighbors and has a few friends she keeps in semi-regular contact with.

Spike

Spike is a dragon who, despite having hatched almost a decade ago, is still considered an infant. He was hatched from the egg given to Twilight after the infamous entrance exam. Twilight figured out that simulating the heat of a volcano, where some dragons are known to hang out, provided a proper environment for incubation. It was a slow process, and it still took several months, but the egg hatched and Spike was born.

Spike immediately imprinted himself on Twilight, and even after he realized that the two were completely different species, he still is loyal to her, loyal enough to have followed her even after graduation.

If Twilight is the studious, logical one, Spike is the one who tends to go with his gut and instincts. He is pretty much Twilight’s foil. In fact, he was trying to push Twilight into being more social all the way up to their move to Ponyville.

The Other 5

Because I know people will ask at this point, all you need to know is that the rest of the canon Mane 6 are pretty much the same as they’ve always been. Their personal histories are changed very little and, much like Twilight and Spike, they are the same as their canon counterparts.

I think that’ll do it for now. Hope this clears things up.

This is CF signing out.

Aww i was noticed. Very well, my curiosity is sated.
Thank you

Hey there. Thanks very much for sharing this info with us. So I'm guessing that the biggest difference between this universe's Spike and the canon Spike is that this universe's Spike is two years younger (one year for the research and one year for the hatching). And I'm also guessing that MOST of the stuff that has very little to do with the Elements of Harmony or Princess Celestia concerning the canon Mane Six happens pretty similarly to canon (with the possible exception of "A Canterlot Wedding" when you get around to it, which would probably have the canon Mane 6 AND the Background Six working together [after all, Twilight is STILL the little sister of the Royal Guard's Captain in this universe]).

Then again, if I am wrong with my guesses, I completely understand and profusely apologize.
