Daring Do Author Revealed. *SPOILERS* · 7:26pm Dec 3rd, 2013
I'm sure almost everyone has already heard this news, but I'm tossing in my two bits.
So in the Next Episode of MLP: Fim we get to meet the author of Daring Do: A.K. Yearling
Summary from episode press release
"When Rainbow Dash discovers that the new A.K. Yearling book she has been eagerly anticipating is delayed, she recruits her reluctant pony friends to spring into action to ensure the book gets written. However, when the ponies arrive to help the famous author, they soon discover that A.K. Yearling has a secret that sends Rainbow Dash and her pony friends on an unexpected mission"
Who, let's just say, looks a little familiar.
I'm all for meeting the author of the Daring Do book series, I'm just disappointed they came up with this new character for it. A.K. Yearing -which I'm guessing is a reference to J.K. Rowling- didn't have to be made, especially with such a lazy design process. If her resemblance to her creation doesn't have any baring on the story -like she used to do some adventuring herself- I'm going to be very annoyed.
Personally I think Twilight's mother should have been the author. Keep the pen-name, I like that. But Twilight Velvet has been established in official merchandise as a writer of adventure stories. Also in neigh anything... (issue #11 & #12 of the IDW comicbook series), Shining Armor's flashback claims her to have an Award for Authors with Daring Do on a plaque underneath.
I'm not the only fan who caught onto the idea that Twilight Velvet could be the author of Daring Do.
Really though, Twilight's mother would have been a great author of the Daring Do books. Not only would it have given the mane six a good adventure and made Rainbow Dash that little bit closer with Twilight (who wouldn't want to hang around with the kid of their favourite author?) It would have given us a great chance to see Twilight having some real interaction with her family. We would be able to see more of them, maybe even get to hear some of their back story and have them fleshed out as characters. It would have been a perfect opportunity.
I'm mildly disappointed, it would have been nice to get a little more detail about Twilight's family.
Regarding the appearance similarity, I'll be incredibly shocked if it doesn't end up relevant in the episode.
I'll admit, I too am disappointed that Twi's mom isn't the author, but oh well. Hasbro has a habit of doing that to us. 'Sides, the comics ain't canon.
I'm incredibly dissappointed.
Sadly the comics are not canon so I am disappointed that Velvet isn't the author of the Daring Do series, I mean this would've been the perfect opportunity to give her a speaking role as well as excellent plot development.
Yeah, I'm disappointed they didn't use Twi's mom for the role. Would have been a great opportunity to flesh out one of the Mane 6's parents, as well as someone from Twi's family who's NOT Shining Armor.
Jezz, dude. You kinda spoiled that for me.
It is a tiny spoiler, still, you could be a little more careful.
We won't know for certain that Twilight's mom isn't "A.K. Yearling" until the episode airs or leaks. For all we know right now, that's a picture of Rainbow Dash with A.K. Yearling's editor or publisher.
Im just wondering why this was so important that it took a spot in my notifications.
...Well! That is quite the downer. I always tried to keep in mind the comics were a separate continuity to avoid getting my hopes up, and this is why.
Not only could this have fleshed out the character of a family member of one of the Mane Six, my FAVORITE character, no less, it would mean there's an aristocrat who does useful things for society (Besides Twilight, of course)
Who writes the comics anyway, and how much connection do they have to Hasbro?
The (massive) downside to this would be a probable increase in TwiDash shipping
Shipping aside, I honestly think what we're lacking is Twilight/Fluttershy interaction.
I've seen the comic stuff... but thanks for ruining the surprise on the next episode...

If that is actually Twilight Velvet, who's to say her daughter didn't cast the disguise spell on her? Or her husband, for that matter? We know even less about him than we do about Twilight Velvet.
I could go either way on the author of the Daring Do series. Twilight Velvet has already been portrayed by us plenty of times over on her being the author, but Daring do writing her own book series... I like it.
Yeah... I was so overjoyed when I saw the comic, I thought, "The Ship-Off is canon!" But this? Darn.

the title of the episode is Daring Don't, so I'm going to have to say Yes, It's a Daring Do related episode.
I still think they might be connected, and perhaps Twilight Velvet is the author or the Daring Do series(or at least one of the book). One of the things that I like about MLP is that they often execute simple premises in unexpected ways.
