    Merry Christmas, all!

My track record with Christmas releases is no longer perfect, but I do try! Only one 5k chapter of Sharing the Nation this year, though I'm hoping to have 5k more out before the new year. To make up for it, though, I've also brought out the Harry Potter crossover that's been languishing in

    Nothing this year, sorry

Man, this has been… a year. Shortly after my last blog post, I had some (non-covid) medical issues that somewhat took over my life for a while, and while that's all in the past now, I'm only back where I was beforehand—completely unproductive. I was determined to get back into things at NaNoWriMo, but work steamrolled those plans and I just haven't been able to find the words to write something

More burned out than I thought

Jeeze, it's been four months since I decided not to force myself to generate updates for the sake of Patreon and gave myself the freedom to write whatever I wanted… but I haven't really written anything. I've done a thousand words or so here and there to play around with other fandoms, but nothing of significance.

    Shocking, I know.

Tis the season for status updates. Not as much the other kind of updates as I would like, though

It wouldn't be Christmas if I hadn't been completely incommunicado for at least a month or two beforehand, right?

Unfortunately, I don't have chapters of Sharing the Nation to post for Christmas this year. I do have some Equal Opportunity Ascension chapters that only Patreon has seen, and I'll post those, I guess, but it's clear this… isn't working.

    Christmas Updates!

    Merry Christmas!

As I've done every year since I started writing, I have updates here for you on Christmas day.

( It might look like there's a missing one, but the chapter for Sharing the Night that year was taken down and reposted)

Sharing the Night Chapter 9 Author's Notes · 11:44pm Nov 29th, 2013

Well, since q97randomguy was awesome and proofread the chapter last night while all my other proofreaders did the sensible thing and enjoyed the holiday, I decided to just go ahead and post the chapter now rather than wait.

Go read Sharing the Night: Chapter 9 first, obviously. Spoilers ahead.

Oy, this chapter. The first section took several rewrites and lots of editing to finally get something that wouldn't put people to sleep. There's only so much narrative monologuing a person can take before their eyes start to glaze over.

I still worry about certain sections, but this is something of a 'break' chapter, so it's okay if it's not quite as dramatic as usual. Better to just get on with it.

Still, Twilight dies twice, so there's that. (Bad Luna, bad!) Did anyone actually expect not only the whole Winter Wrap-Up thing, but also the issue of Twilight's vest to crop back up?

Anyway, I'll be interested to see how people respond to how I handled the whole "Princess of Libraries" thing. I know people expected her to right up and squee or yesyesyes about it—and she does have some fun with it—but it and her acceptance of it represent a pretty big change. I mean, one of the 'tags' on EQD's entry for Sharing the Night is "not a princess," (and the others aren't faring too well either).

Rest assured, though, there will be more of Twilight and her librarocracy in the next chapter.
Also, if anyone is still wondering, my comment on the Season 4 premiere doing "the exact same thing" was regarding the whole mixed-night-and-day thing. In the end, though, they didn't actually go into it at all, so it's more of a cute little bit of synchrony rather than any big deal over being preempted.

I don't understand. Where is this chapter you speak of?

Edit: Nevermind, the chapter seems to have appeared while I wasn't looking.

It can take a minute to actually happen :twilightblush:

Should be up now.

(I had to make the blog post first so I could put the URL in the author's notes section)

PPS

Looks like I didn't get to that in time. Oh well. New chapter!

Really—don't worry about it  I posted less than a day since the offer went out on one of the busiest set of holidays of the year, so I knew what I was doing. :derpytongue2:

Wow, I have to say I'm digging the whole liberocracy deal. Also, that scene at the end was awesome. But I have to know, will we get to see more of the ROC?

'nother goodun. Good job finding a place for Celestia in there. The endless monologue about how the librarachy worked was amazing/hilarious.:twilightsheepish::trollestia:

It's a rule of every RPG ever than whenever you start playing a character who respawns, you will, just coincidently, start dying a lot. Guess it's true of stories too.

Hummm... the scene where Luna just makes herself some tea and watches Twilight asphyxiate was kind of funny even though it really, really shouldn't have been.

I'm sorry, it's been six hours and I still can't figure out what ROC refers to in your post :twilightoops::facehoof:

My best guess is the Rest Of (the) Cast...?

If that's the case, I hope to include them in the next chapter, actually, but I can't be sure I'll be able to fit what I have in mind in :twilightsheepish:

1556648 It's supposed to mean Royal Observation Cloud.:twilightsheepish:
I just really loved the way that just them sleeping on it made it as important as Twilight thought it might have.

I've just read through the 9th chapter, amd i must say that is has been an amazing read so far
It has been a while since I read last and though it has been a bit thick at times concerning the varid and complex emotion descriptions at times, the more easy reading sure makes up for it. At times the heavy stuff is perfectly, other times it is a big mouthful (could have something to do with the late hours but whutevur)

I particularly like way Twilights body dies but get's resurected because she's not really as much pony anymore as she has become the stars. It does remind me a bit of hard reset, where twilight dies in similar manners. Althought that story as has a more gruesome take on it to be sure.

Keep up the good writing ^^
