I'm currently in the process of writing a fantastic story (by my standards) called Life Is A Perception Of Your Own Reality. Basically, it's set within my version of the Conversion Bureau universe. My CB universe, as noted in the description of The Madman, entails a golden age for mankind.

In 2051 CE the cosmic rift in time and space, dubbed "The Portal", emerges in the Pacific ocean off the coast of Hawaii. This Portal is indeed the emerging cosmos of Equestria, and threatens to wipe out the whole of Human civilization. Right then, lets backtrack a little.

Instead of Earth turning for the worst, we keep a steady hold on our environment. In 2015, we develop the Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine to replace the need for fossil fuels, thus eliminating foreign dependence on fossil fuels. As a result of this, Iran's economy collapses and in turn blames the Americans, the creators of the alternate fuel source. Due to China's economy still heavily based on foreign oil, the lack of it also sends China's economy crashing down. The engines being produced as fast as possible, the demand is much higher than the supply, and without middle eastern oil, many countries around the world suffer an economic crisis. Along with China, India's and Russia's economy fail, and without fuel, the countries come to a standstill. As a result of this, Iran threatens to attack Israel. China threatens to attack the U.S., and eventually does. World War 3 erupts, and with it, the beginning of a New Age. The war lasts for only 4 years, and at the conclusion of the war in 2019, the world unites under the United Earth Government. The UEG was formed by United Nations by uniting Earth's many governments together in order to defeat the common threat of China, Russia, Korea, and Iran. After the war, the newly unified Earth progresses into the future by combining their intelligences. Earth gives birth to a Golden Age that rivals the industrial revolution. In 2028, the government funds a corporation, Martin Industries, in order to gain an interplanetary presence. The Scientific Pioneer and founder of Martin Industries, Eric A. Martin, having the corporation already based in Roanoke Virgina, purchases land within the nearby Appalachain Mountains in which the facility is constructed. In 2030, the launch of the MISV FORERUNNER signified mankind's freedom from the Earth's surface. The ship achieved Lunar orbit only 2 hours from launch, utilizing the Multi-Core Drive system developed by Martin Industries. In a matter of month's, other ships were launched to Mars, the Jovian moons, Uranus, and beyond. In the year that followed, the corporation and UEG profited from the Nitrogen reserves for Starships on Uranus, the mining opportunities on Mars and the Jovian Moons, and the settling of many small colonies. Eventually, a spaceport was built along with an Orbital Tether in Roanoke. A flood of new jobs erupted, causing more and more to move to the city. As more people arrived, so did more government authority which also introduced tons of new jobs. Finally, many corporates moved in, and took advantage of the surplus population by offering new opportunities. The city grew overnight, and grew outwards as well as upwards. Quickly becoming one of the worlds leading cities, many came to calling the city "New Roanoke", and it was officially incorporated as the cities name. By 2051, the world has developed efficient space travel, nanotechnology, Biomechanical Augmentations, Arcologies, well on its way to curing cancer and other diseases, and reduced pollution dramatically. So it is definitely right for the Humans to be upset when the Ponies come into the picture. With the portal threatening to destroy Human progress and Humans themselves, this causes outrage. New Roanoke being a center of Human culture and innovation, it quickly and unwillingly becomes a stronghold of the Humans. The Human Liberation Front has a humongous presence in my universe, so they're everywhere. Being the so called "human capital", New Roanoke becomes the HQ of the HLF, enforcing a strong presence.

In The Madman, Delvin, the son of Eric A. Martin himself, lives in New Roanoke where he lives as a Freelance Mercenary, mainly employed by his father, in an attempt to eradicate dangerous forces of the HLF. After he becomes a Pony, he finds himself in a jam. In my new story, Nathan Frost, a seemingly normal 15 year old kid with a brilliant mind, is forced into conversion by his fanatical PER parents, much to his dismay. Forced to live a seemingly dead end life after conversion crushes his life goals, he is the only Pony at his school in New Roanoke, and is constantly bullied and threatened by many who were once his friends. Living in the Human city as a Pony would be hard enough, but throw a bit of coming of age in there, and you've got yourself a nightmare.
