So... uh. That break between Applejack's Thirty Minutes collection and Twilight's ended up being a bit longer than I thought. Sorry about that. I am sure it had absolutely nothing to do with the Steam sale on XCOM that happened the other week. Nor the strangely addictive Korean drama that my attractive spouse suckered me into watching. Nope, not those things at all, I'm certain. I think it was mostly the space badgers. Yes, space badgers are to blame. Darn those space badgers!
Apologies to folks that have been trying to contact me lately. My interaction with FimFiction the last few weeks has been to log in, see the large heap of unread updates, get intimidated, and leave. I would promise to get back to everyone that has been trying to reach me, but whenever I make promises I can't keep, I get a mental image of Applejack shaking her head in disappointment, so... yeah. I'll try, but don't hold it against me if I miss you. Or do hold it against me, harbor a deep resentment against me in the core of your being, let the hatred fester, and eventually emerge from the shadows as my arch-nemesis. I've never had one of those, and they sound cool.
But! But I am getting back in the saddle now! Despite space badger-related setbacks, I am getting ready to launch Thirty Days, Thirty Twilights, the sixth and final entry in my Thirty Minute series. This may seem like a poor time to do so, given the fact that my source of prompts for the series, Thirty Minute Ponies, is currently on hiatus, but where others see setbacks, I see opportunity. Specifically, the opportunity to catch up on some of the nearly three hundred prompts that ran before I joined in. This solution has its pros and cons; on the downside, I don't get feedback from the mods, so it'll be entirely up to you folks to let me know how I'm doing with these. On the upside, I can do the prompts on my own schedule, so I'll never miss one because I had work when it went up. On the maybe-up-maybe-down-side, I'll be able to pick and choose the prompts I want to work with, which is good because that way I don't get stumped by a prompt that clearly is not designed for the character I'm writing for this month, but bad because it presents the temptation to only use the easy prompts and veer away from the ones that are more challenging and make me think creatively. I'll have to try and keep myself disciplined about that. The story will be in the queue soon.
In other news, and this is a supremely belated announcement, but if you haven't checked it out yet, allow me to pimp the Apple Pie Prompt Tag. For those of you that haven't seen these threads pop up among the various shipping boards on Fimfic, Prompt Tag is a collaboration where a short, 500-word-or-so story is written based on a one-word prompt, and then the writer of that story chooses the prompt for the next writer. It's a fun little writing exercise, very low-pressure, and it has really produced some clever little pieces of prose. There's one for practically every ship by now, but since I am who I am, I will steer you towards the Apple Pie one because Apple Pie. Head on over here to read the collection so far, or check out the thread itself if you think you might want to join in on the fun. I believe the current prompt is Kumquat.
So, that's the updates for today. Now, if you'll excuse me, I just found this dart sticking out of my neck, and suddenly I'm very sleepy.
Darned space badgers.
