Doctor Perseus Reviews: "Doctor Who: A Survivor's Triangle" · 7:29pm Oct 14th, 2013
Doctor Who: A Survivor's Triangle is a Doctor Who fan film from FanRantProduction on Youtube. In the film, the newly-regenerated Doctor arrives in 2011 America and runs into Jessica, a 22-year-old with a collection of serious family issues. Soon, the Doctor and Jessica stumble across a plot by the Master which brings back old memories of the Time War and brings three survivors in a battle for humanity. The 67 minute film stars John Reid Adams as the 12th Doctor, Kara Saadet Schwarz as companion Jessica Ridgemond, Jeffrey Breslauer as the Master, Margaret Ledford as Jessica's mother Gwen, and Robert Cervera as Jessica's friend Manny. It was filmed in Southwest Ranches, Florida and features various bits of iconic music from the "New Who" era.
The fan film is excellent, to say the least. The acting is fantastic, the effects are quite decent, and story is well-paced, funny, and quite deep at times. John Reid Adams does a truly brilliant job at playing the Doctor and it never feels like it's just a fan portraying a character. No. John is the Doctor in this film. Much like the official actors who've played the Doctor in the actual show, John portrays his 12th Doctor with a collection of old traits and quirks from previous Doctors with a few new things thrown in. His personality is an entertaining mesh of the 10th and 11th Doctors with his own original traits tossed in, his outfit is definitely inspired by a combination of the 8th and 10th Doctors' wardrobes, and John has a young and dashing face that gives this 12th Doctor a bit of a 5th Doctor vibe. Kara Saadet Schwarz also gives a powerful and strong performance as companion Jessica and has great chemistry with John's Doctor. Jeffrey Breslauer portrays the Master beautifully and every scene with him and John's Doctor confronting each other is full of fantastic pieces of well-written dialogue and are just feasts for the senses. You can tell that Jeffrey was having a lot of fun as the Master and he goes all out in every scene. He truly makes his Master an incredibly enjoyable villain in this film. The other two main actors do great jobs too, despite what little screen time they have. Margaret Ledford doesn't have much to do in the film as Gwen Ridgemond aside from act like a puppet and lie around. But she definitely shined at providing a pretty creepy performance as an obviously-controlled mother. And I won't spoil exactly what happens to her but her ultimate fate is definitely one of the saddest parts the film. The main cast finishes up with Robert Cervera as Manny, a janitor at a college who is good friends with Jessica. Like Gwen, he doesn't have much screen time but, when he appears, he's really enjoyable to watch. His shining moments come towards the end of the film where he, the Doctor, and Jessica have to face off against a small army of raging drama students (yes, you read that correctly).
The only flaws with the film are that a few pieces of dialogue come off as a bit cheesy and the film contains a few of the average mistakes you'd expect to find in any fan film. But these don't hold the film back in any way.
Overall, Doctor Who: A Survivor's Triangle is a great fan film that captures the spirit of Doctor Who. It has enough superb acting, laugh-out-loud humor, tension, suspense, sci-fi elements, and drama that, at times, you might just forget that you're watching a fan film and start feeling like you're watching an actual episode of Doctor Who!

Oh, I definitely have to check this out. Doctor Who fan films! Who would have thunk?
Wow really?!
A Doctor Who fan film is a very hard thing to make (not helped by the numbering of all regenerations, making it a bit harder to squeeze another fella in); even harder to make it good but this looks good!
I'm gonna watch it right now! (almost)

is it really so hard to believe? We have fan films like snow drop and double rainboom. I going to watch this so hard!
1420304 Animation and imitating cartoon character voices is one thing. Some people are quite good at that. Playing the Doctor is a whole different kettle of fish. The Doctor is an iconic character.
