Greenfire Thoughts and Thanks · 3:33am Sep 17th, 2013
So I've just uploaded chapter 7 of Greenfire. Before the reactions start trickling in, let's take a look at the facts.
- Greenfire has almost 1,300 favorites, over 300 comments, and over 30,000 total hits.
- It's currently on the first page of "Top Rated" stories, right at the bottom. And if you filter by romance, or by Rarity and Spike, it's right at the top. (I know all that can change with a single down-vote, given the way ratings work on the site, but right this minute it's still true, and it's awesome.)
- So far it's garnered three pieces of fan art, a TV Tropes page, and a freaking fan ANIMATION.
John Green, could you help me express how I feel about all this?
Thank you.
And thank you, readers, for enjoying my work so much. All the hits and comments and speculation and fan stuff has made writing this fanfic an amazing experience, unlike anything I've ever written before. It's hard work sometimes--okay, a lot of the time--but knowing you're all eagerly awaiting each new chapter makes it all worth it.
As I said in the first line, chapter 7 is posted, so I'm going to talk a bit about it. It took me several months to get this finished, and if you've read it, I think you may understand why. Rarity and Greenfire's conversation walked a troublesome tightrope; I needed to get it sounding as natural and in-character as I could, while still having it go in the direction I wanted it to. I've been agonizing over it, honestly, tweaking and rewriting lines over and over again. But I think I'm finally satisfied with it! I just hope it sounds right to other ears. Er, eyes. You know what I mean.
With any luck, chapter 8 won't take as long to write as this one did. It's going to be a quiet, reflective chapter, mostly setup for what's to come. And then chapter 9 will bring with it a bit of a genre change--you can probably guess why--and from there it's a straight shot through to chapter 12, which will close out the story.
And THEN--well. I'll talk about that later.
I think that's all I have to say for now. See you next post! :)
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Now you've got me really curious about the genre change. People over at Chapter 7 are talking about meeting the Main Six, and he probably will. Though it'd be an interesting twist if he turned out to wield one of the elements of Harmony, or something like that. Who knows, it all rests at least partly on what Twilight's doing.
But it would be nice: I mean, they're the elements of Harmony, and they don't include Griffons, Dragons or Minotaurs. Not even one token non-pony! *faux outrage*
