Writing&Standards · 7:27pm Sep 10th, 2013
I feel like I need to express something. My writing standards, more specifically, what I will and will not write, my reasons, such and so on. I try my best to be open to the idea of writing anything, more or less because something that has always kind of irked me in the past is when I have suddenly wanted to find a story or picture(9/10 times it is an entirely SFW concept) but can't find it simply because no one has gotten around to it. It basically lends itself to this: If the able are unwilling to do it, and the willing are unable to do it correctly, then it will forever remain undone.
Now, herein lies my point. I want to write stories I can find nothing like, but there are some stories I cannot stomach reading, let alone writing. My limit is rape. I cannot bring myself to read a rape scene, nor could I ever write one. I could read or write about the most graphically gruesome and horribly gory mass slaughter imaginable and feel right at home, even have shivers of excitement rushing through me, but the very idea behind rape in any semi-relatable context is just beyond what I can stomach.
Another would be mauling of non-sentient, or fully feral, animals. I can detach myself from something humanoid enough to handle them being gored, but I cannot do it with feral creatures. That said, I can absolutely see myself writing or reading a short scene wherein, say, a manticore or timberwolf attacks a character out of instinct and is put to a swift and relatively painful end. That's fine because it can drive a story and shows the character isn't without remorse entirely.
So, I might write clop, I might write action/adventure, I might write sappy, super corny romance, but if I do, it's because I was struck with the inspiration and want to give someone who likes the idea a good read. Example: There are plenty of fics about Twilight being immortal now, and it gets old. I saw one that put a spin on it, and I loved it. There are, unfortunately, plenty of ideas with almost nothing to their name, and what is to their name is either taken along the shortest, simplest, easiest possible route, or attempted to be done beyond the writer's current ability, then never revisited when they get better, or even written by a fully able author but just thrown together for the sake of saying "I wrote this."
I want to write stories I can feel, so I do. I have my standards, and what I simply cannot make myself write. Most, if not all, authors do too, and that's fine. It's actually a good thing. The problem comes when fanfiction authors get good and turn from the 'low-brow' for good, and leave it only to writers who are first starting out, or have been writing and just seemed incapable thus far. That's not good. Writer's shouldn't be ashamed to enjoy writing a little something dirty once in a while, and beginners shouldn't feel like smut is their way into fame.
Your ability should not be defined by your idea, but by your execution. If science worked on idea over execution, we wouldn't be anywhere near where we are now. If it war worked on it, millions more would die in wartime than already do, only for absolutely nothing. If we limit everything to idea and ignore execution, then we are blind.
Again, I'm not saying everyone should try to write everything, or that you shouldn't have standards, but set them based on something other than the stigma that a community puts on an idea or a type of story. If you made it this far, thank you for your time.~Hades
i can't read this, please break it up so my eyes can understand your information
1341108 Better?
1341547
very much
1341563 I guess let me know what you think.

hehehe the only thing which i can see defense in, is the fact i write clop, rape, murder all into a bit of foalcon, like crazy(basically everything you can't stand lol), not because it's any way to fame, but because i generally like it and my tastes are very narrow, not many writers can go to a level where i enjoy it, they kill important characters too easily where as i enjoy the ax to the tree method
i never follow others because they only lead you to death, especially trends, though i do enjoy unexplored areas that little to no stories have been made such as crystal ponies, so few stories create and expand their world.
basically i write what i want, i don't cater to others
do i have things i won't write?
i only write what i like and i can barely stomach writing G rated fics, it just turns me crazy and i end up with a head in one hoof and a mangled body on spikes on my castle walls
now then i probably completely missed your point, and if not, well yay, if so, then tell me your questions
1341814 my only 'point' was more or less that I feel there is a stigma that the general writing community has put on some things, such as writing clop. If I was trying to get some point across, it would be that I'm tired of seeing where good writers turn away from a story or idea simply because the idea seems beneath them, even if they could write it. In the case of standards, it's a different ballpark. Rape fics seem to be pretty popular, but I could never read or write one. It's a tad hard to explain, really, so I like to think the only point is what you get out of it.
1342419
i think i get it
nope completely over my head
1342424 More than likely around it, not over it. I'm not the best at explanations really.
1342428
eh it's fine, i'm just half brain right now, i'm writing sooo yeah
1342431 I should be.... So I think I'll get some music on and get started.
1342434
ever consider writing a story about Luna enjoying a blue berry muffin?
1342439 It would have to be a random story, but I could do this. I can see comedic potential.
1342447
yeah not only that it can be a very good story and be completely G rated, also those fics tend to become very well liked so
1342451 If you're not doing anything with the idea. I may make a one shot of that. Again though, only if you're cool with that.
1342455
why do you think i told you it? i was more or less suggesting that you do it because i thought you might like doing it, i wouldn't enjoy writing a piece like that
