In one of my fics will be mentioning something that without context might not make sense so I'm putting this out there to make sense of things.
Earth Ponies: lived in prefectures headed by a chancellor who represented the will of the people but had more or less unilateral rule over his/her area. After 10 years or, more commonly at that time, until death which ever came first. Where either their adviser would take over or another pony would be ushered in. The Chancellors are part of a form of government Oligarchic Aristocracy called a Merinetocracy [portmanteau of Meritocracy and Netocracy. Where the rulers were based off of their merits and social connections rather than of heritage or arbitrary values.
Earth Pony Magic: A Mix of FMA Alchemy, Herbalism, Magical use of plants, stones, crystals, and metals, as well natural energy for magical purposes. They excel at bringing out the inherent magical nature of the world and bringing it out for potions, enchantments, and wards. As well as making of transmutation circles to alter the nature of an object as well as harness their natural magic to do great magical feats.
Their magic is one part science, one part connection to the earth, and one part magic.

Pegasi Government: The society of Pegasi were called Regimes, and were part of a Fascist government that focused on the pride of being a Pegasi and focused on military prowess. The ruler was the strongest, most decisive member of the society who could defeat the current leader in honorable combat. Proving to the other pegasi that that pony was the best, thus able to lead them the most efficiently.
Pegasi Magic: Based off of nature and shape transformation. Created by generating lightning, and creating magical patterns and forms that generate a specific effect. As well as Weather, storm, and air magic and generation.
The 8 natures are Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Lightning, Ice, Sand, and Wood. It was founded by the Sage of the 8 paths. It is the main form of magic used by SKOP [Silent Killing Organization of Pegasi] [pronounced Scope], and Pegasi wizards to try countering the unicorn mages that the Unicorn Autocracy are ruled by. The art itself is called Munin. Based both off of the Japanese Mu and nin [Free Person of Talent], and the German Munin [Memory / the Mind]. Since the object of Munin is liberating the mind, body, and soul of a Pegasi from limitations, memorization of techniques and skills, as well as the need to be seperate from the rulership so that they can operate as needed to ensure the protection of the Regime leader.
SKOP is a mixture of ANBU, Mossad, and SEALs.

Unicorn Government: The territories were called Keeps. And were ruled by an Autocracy. Keeps were mighty Wizard cities with a Castle in the center. They lorded over the Merinetocracies of the Earth Ponies for food, and weather of the Pegasi using their ability over the sun and moon as leverage. As well as their raw magical natures as a way to further extort physical comforts from their surrounding neighbors. With their power being held within the nobility of the Royal Families they had less powershifts and need to rebuild things as the other races did. Thus had more time to dedicate to their magical pursuits.
Unicorn Magic: Their magic is a mixture of sufficiently analyzed magic, psychic powers, and other forms of Functional Magic.
Although their magical outlet is usually hyper-specialized to their special talent. With those whose Special Talents are magic based, or more generalized have greater range of learning.

That's my head canon at least. And will be mentioned in any Grimm Goose the Bard's Tales. Stories. Just thought I'd throw this out there so that there would be no confusion when I mention them in my fics.
