Xiaolin Chronicles Reaction · 11:32am Aug 31st, 2013
Warning. This review/rage contains spoilers. You have been warned.
Now I’ve only watched the first episode and half of it at that (for reasons I will go into later) so I ay be judging too quickly but… It isn’t all I thought it was going to be.
I mean first of all I have to ask why did the make the Bubble Brain Sheng-Gon-Wu? I mean I guess there have been crazier Sheng-Gon-Wu ideas and will continue to be more crazy ideas but didn’t we already have a piece of Wu that could turn you from flesh to spirit, and vice versa in a combo? With the Bubble Brain, what becomes of the Serpent’s Tail?
Second I’m pissed that they’ve gone back to red uniforms, especially when it comes to Raimundo. I mean that black and golden sparring robe he got when he became a Shoku Warrior at the end of Xiaolin Showdown was pretty cool. But now they’ve pretty much taken away what it meant for Raimundo to be a leader by making them all Shoku Warriors.
Moving on from that their special techniques as Shoku Warriors are just the same as they were as Wudai Warriors only with Shoku inserted. Let me give you an example. Omi’s Shoku technique is and I quote: ‘Shoku Neptune: Water.’ I kid you not. Now they did change Clay’ and Rai’s at but further by naming them Shoku Jupiter and Astro respectively but… still.
And then their’s the change to the backstory of the Xiaolin order as well. Why did they add that Wuya was trapped in a firrgin’ SLINKY? And furthermore, WHY IS SHE A GHOST AGAIN?!
I think my biggest complaint with the show so far however is the redesign. With the exceptions of Kimiko and Omi who I don’t think have changed that much, and Jack who looks pretty damn cool, everyone else has pretty much been screwed over big time with their redesign as characters. Even the animation is a lower quality than before in my opinion.
Maybe the showdown’s themselves make up for this but I don’t know. What do you guys think? Am I being too harsh, should I give Xiaolin Chronicles a chance to prove itself or has it bombed from the start?
