Alrighty! My good friend and ideasmith CliffRobonik has given what I think is a mighty fine idea for Lightning Dust's new role in the Harmony's Warriors Universe:
THE PUNISHER.
His logic behind this choice? Well, Lightning has shown to be impulsive and quite okay with putting other ponies in danger to achive her yearning to be a Wonderbolt. This can be easily appropriated to The Punisher, who is perfectly okay with putting innocent lives at risk as long as it achives his goal of obbliterating all orginized crime.
Now, here comes the really cool part.
He also suggested that, at some point in my universe, Lightning Dust is just within grasp of finally destorying Kingpin's criminal empire, having gone as far as backing Kingpin in a corner and, as she readies herself for the final blow, Kingpin surprises her and is able to turn the battle against her, and is quick to violently and brutally dispatch with her, ending her life.
However, what Kingpin or Lightning don't count on, is the presence of the elite Equinsgardian warrior caste known as the Valkyrie, who, along with being the equivilant to Navy Seals in Equinsgard, also are tasked with taking the souls of warriors they deem fit to Valhalla to join their group or be granted enternal peace, whichever the warrior prefers.
So, upon seeing Lightning Dust's death at the hands of an obviously evil villain, the Valkyrie take Lightning's spirit to Valhalla and offer her this: Since she has been noble, dauntless and forthright in her pursuit of total justice, she is able to be given the abilities of a Valkyrie in order to help protect the nine realms from evil. Lightning Dust, being the obsessive seeker of total justice that she is, gladly accepts this offer, and is granted the powers and abilties of an Equinsgardian and is now a full member of their group, sharing their abilites and powers.
How does that sound?! Is that not completely and totally METAL?!

The Punisher became a demon-hunter for a while after being granted power by some angels.

I don't know, I preferred the previous idea to be honest, as this one just doesn't sound like Lightening dust to start off with. The last one did. Being that she's basically the counter part of Rainbow Dash which she was in the TV series. I maybe alone against this, but heck, I'm certain you know that's what I'm like Avenging-Hobbit.
Now I don't know much about Punisher, but I have hardcore-butt fan that collects comics of him and a number of other people who view Punisher differently to what you describe. Punisher is not impulsive, he is a cold-hearted strategist that plans out every move, therefore my friend would probably want to slap you for dare saying he's impulsive. Punisher is also passionate in a grim fashion, in a way he is the Batman of the Marvel world, Lightening Dust is more passionate in a competitive fashion. Those images collide.
I more preferred the idea that she's plainly a Valkyrie that plays counterpart to Rainbow Dash. More like an unchecked version. While Rainbow Dash has learnt to be humble and be more responsible being by giving mortals a chance, Lightening Dust has remained repulsive and careless due to the fact she hasn't and is more intolerant of mortals, hence this brings the collision between her and Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash has come to believe that mortals are equal and that you can learn from them, while Lightening Dust think that has to be the joke of a life time. You see that's why I think your previous idea is 20% more awesome... Aren't I such a git.

And you do raise a good point there that I didn't take into account.
Of course, I was never a hardcore Punisher guy either, so everything I know about him is through osmosis and hearing people talk about him.
That being said, I still think the idea does hold some water. And remember, I have the unique oppertunity to tweak a Marvel character to have them as a MLP character. So I don't have to be 100% accurate to the comics you know? I obviously don't disregard them either, but I first goal is to have the MLP characters accurate to their canon versions as much as I can help it.

Pretending I didn't hear that anyways, you could always do both ideas technically, have a gender-swapped version for Punisher (Hence you don't have to stray off the common image of Punisher not off fighting daemons, he's more associated with being Marvel's Batman that kills excessively) and the original idea to keep people like me happy. (What I like the counterpart idea, I'm not normally into them unless their awesome and this idea is 20% awesome).
1301683 well, the whole point of this idea was also because CliffRobotnik (who came up with it) also had the same conflict of wanting to see Lightning Dust as a darker role, but also didn't want to loose the idea of her being a superpowered warrior who could see dead people. So he came up with this.
Also, we must remember that woman's minds are wired different from guys, so obviously any gender bent version is going to more then just a simple swapping of sexes.

Well I don't like it still? Like how come darker? Isn't things dark enough anyways? Plus we are speaking about someone whose intolerant and could've perhaps been a different pony if she had given the other side a chance and may lead to dark consequence. And again, Punisher is not associated with having superpowers, so you're damaging his image just as much as you're damaging Lightening Dust. As said I can't imagine Lightening Dust being grim and vengeful.

I'll have to bring it up with Cliff, since, admittedly, we tend to runaway with ourselves when it comes to ideas like this.
Anyways, I've got a Punisher set up anyways, so I can still have both.

This sounds pretty cool; that said, the "angel-powered Punisher" thing has gotten some bad press, so you'd have to handle it pretty well to get it to work.
