Sister prologue up for pre-reading · 11:38pm Jul 29th, 2013
In lack of other inspiration I sat down and did the prologue (based on the pitch I showed off earlier, but cleaner and more seriously written) for my upcoming W-verse story, Sister. All of you who might be interested in style and whatnot, this will probably be written in a somewhat similar style to Wandering, but with some alterations depending on how I decide to roll. One question in particular I'd like an answer to: Do you want the story to focus ONLY on Katla's perspective, or do you want Fluttershy's point of view at times as well? To keep it in line with Wandering style-wise I'd kinda prefer to use a first-person format and go Katla-only, but you have a chance to make your voices heard now if you think it'd be better off done differently.
In any case, here's the prologue. Leave comments in the doc or here as you wish - or if you want to stroke my ego a bit, both. :)
I'm also looking for cover art for this piece - if someone would be willing to pen up Katla for me, I'd be mightily glad for it. Send me a PM if you're up for some draws!
I get access to my new apartment on Thursday, btw, so interesting times are ahead. Keep axing!

Oooh, not the first time I've seen this type of "origins" but markedly different in that it's told by the perspective of the separated sister. With nothing else to go on, the speculation on appearance will be high, wondering just how much she will show of her draconic parent; I'm going to guess she will be more like a Cestral [bat-pony] than a soft feathered pegasi, due to where and how she was raised and that father would be firm but not cruel in his upbringing. I'd also speculate he would be very protective when the other, younger, dragon adolescents, 'roughhouse' with her. (A rune of protection against burning to ash in lava pools might be handy)
And rune magic? Spike will be green (well, greener) with envy while unicorns might feel a lot more varied when somepony horns in on their turf. I'll assume this is something that cannot be taught but requires, at the minimum, some dragon in your blood. This should placate the ruffled feathers of worried unicorns.
Yeah, I'm gonna read the hell out of this when published.

If you read the story pitch in my last blog post, you'd have a few more details on hoof...
Basically, one of the things you can runecast is a transformation spell. Not as advanced and freely usable as changelings' shapeshifting skills, of course, but it allows a skilled dragon to take the shape of a pony. This is A: how their father got a pony shag in the first place, B: how Fluttershy hasn't realized her origins yet, and C: how Katla is going to infiltrate pony society to search for her.
How an actual dragon half-breed looks...well. Depending on the situation they basically take one out of a few forms, that are essentially on a sliding scale of pony to dragon. At one end you perhaps have tiny scale patches and slanted ears; at the other all that remains of their equinity is a few pegasus feathers on the wing and a mostly equine posture.
You'll get more of this later, though. Good to hear interest!
