Who Loves Plagiarism? I Sure As Hell Do (Not)! · 10:28pm Jul 27th, 2013
So, it happened. It finally happened. Did it finally happen? Yes, it did. Just not in the way that I expected. Now, there are certain places where I simply refuse to go right now. Bars, crackhouses, the DMV. You know, places where a lot of people like me would hate to be. Now, included in this list of places is the oh-so endearing Fanfiction.net. Now, I'll admit, I don't spend a lot of time on FF, and I'm sure that there are a lot of good, decent, and maybe even excellent stories there, but trying to find those stories is akin to trying to find diamonds in a pile of squirrel droppings. As a result, I don't go there very often, and I sure as hell would never put one of my stories up there. However, one of my readers on Live by the Creed has brought my attention to this.
So... this is evidently a thing now. I'm gonna have to do something about this. First, there was this little incident, and now there's this.
And you know what's funny? I'm not even that mad, to be perfectly honest. I'm more baffled than anything else. More by the idea of plagiarism itself than either of these two incidents. Every time it happens, and every time the thief gets caught, I have to wonder, why do it in the first place? Is their self-esteem so low that they have to steal other people's work in order to feel good about themselves? Is it really worth getting banned, suspended, or even arrested over a bunch of text? And for what? Empty praise from people who don't even know you? A bunch of congratulatory text courtesy of someone on the other side of the fucking world? Not to mention that it's such a pussy-footed thing to do too.
Most thieves I've seen tended to steal things of practical value, such as a television, a car, money, etc. You know, things that will sort of benefit them in the future. I'm not saying that it's right to do it, but I can at least sort of understand why someone would do it. What those things also entail is some degree of difficulty in the act. You have to at least possess some degree of skill to hijack a car undetected. You need some degree of finesse to steal something without getting caught.
Where's the difficulty in plagiarizing? You find something that you want to copy, Command +C, Command+V, and then, boom! Done. So, by doing that, you at least prove that you have something of a brain, small as it is. What it also proves is that you don't have a single creative bone in your entire fucking body, because if you did, then you wouldn't have to steal someone else's work in the hopes that you'll fool people into giving you praise for it. You could write your own shitty story, or draw your own shitty painting, and you'd still get praise for it because there are still people out there with the bar set low enough to trip up Satan in his fucking wine cellar. I just never understood it. It's just so fucking stupid! GOD!
....
Right, so someone posted Live by the Creed on Fanfiction.net without my approval. If you want, go tear him a new asshole while I report him. Or don't. I mean, it's FF. It's not like it's the high leagues. And it's not like it hurts me in any way. It just kinda rubbed me the wrong way.
Absolutely unacceptable. It's unfathomable how or even why a person would want to do this.
At least from an interesting annecdote, there's a review of someone calling this 'The Royal Tablet of Plagerism to this story' and addressed the issue from a while back. I just hope the readers on FF see that review. Like Assassin's Creed, showing the truth is hard, but once it works the people will do the rest.
I can only think of that douche stealing it because he knew you spent time writing it. Perhaps a grudge?
Alright, I filed a plagiarism report on Fanfiction.net's Plagiarism Forum: http://www.fanfiction.net/topic/124913/92752332/1/FFNID-8780010-FoughtDragon01-My-Little-Pony-Assassin-s-Creed-Crossover-Active. I also emailed all of the guy's reviewers to let them know where he stole the story from, and posted my own review alerting people to the fact that the story is plagiarized.
Alright, a moderator got back to me. RogueMudblood informed me to relay to you to send them a DMCA takedown notice. Info on how to do that can be found here: http://www.fanfiction.net/tos/. See Section 8. Good luck.
It happened again? What are the odds? Are people just screwing with you at this point?

Thank you very much. Hopefully this gets taken care of by the end of the day.

I haven't got the slightest clue. Either someone is utterly devoted to stealing my work, or this story is just that good. I prefer the latter because it helps me sleep at night.
Hey, the story's down from Fanfiction.Net! I don't know if it was because you around to issuing the DMCA, or if it was because a bunch of people started posting reviews on the site and sending PMs outing him as a plagiarist. His/her account is still there, but if you want that closed down to, that same section 8 addresses identity theft as well I believe.
