Is Prince Blueblood nearly as much of a dick as he appears? Think about it: Rarity thought; they would meet, he would be overtaken by her beauty, ask her to marry him. So she approached him in that way to fulfill her fantasy.
Tell me, how many OTHER mares have tried the exact same thing? How many other mares throw themselves at him every-day? Yes he's a pretty boy but that's probably all these bitches (I will call them that if that's how they act) see in him including Rarity. I never saw her trying to talk to him. Not even a simple "Tell me about yourself."
My theory is that hundreds of mares chase him and he's interested in real mares, a real friens before she develops an interest in him. He's gotten good at finding the "chasers" versus the "friends". Every Chaser he acts like a dick to see how long until she snaps. The "friends" watch this and laugh about it later with him. What better way to get rid of a Chaser then to make her hate you?
Celestia being a princess has had centuries of experience with this and could taught him how to spot Chasers. Maybe she taught Twilight too?
This has lead me to realize Rarity was the douche-bag at The Grand Galloping Gala and never deserved a stallion like Blueblood in the first place. Speaking of whom, if he was putting on a show at the Gala, what could he be like underneath that? A war hero? A spy? A wise governor of a wealthy province elsewhere in Equestria? I personally think of him as a major in Equestrian Special Forces.
In my head-cannon, Blueblood is a professional mapmaker. Think about it, he has a compass rose for a cutie mark.
