Lady Grey

Writer of One-shots. Dabbler of Genres. Altogether too slow for her own good.

    Magnum Opus

Well that's it guys, wrote the story I got into Ponyfic for, see you all on the other side bbbyyyyeeeee~!

I kid, I kid. But Seriously: Three Years, probably close to the day I have been working on this story. I know because I joined Fimfiction shortly after committing the opening lines to paper in the basement of the Kenyon Review office in my Junior year of College.

The Difference Between "Good" and "Good Enough"

When I made this account it was basically under the condition to myself that I would never write anything longer than a One-Shot.

The Fickle and Most Terrible Muse

So I had an idea for a sequel to Thy Words.

And it's awful, and terrible, and beautiful.

And I'm pretty sure you'd all hate me if I wrote it.

But I am considering writing it anyway.

    What is wrong with me?

Not that anything is happening on this until I finish Good Librarian, right Fed?

    Simile to a Good Home

I made a simile, but while editing I am finding that it's just not fitting in with the surrounding prose. I think that it would do well in a different story but I simply don't have the right place for it right now. It's friendly and lighthearted, evocative and clear. I have named him Dilbert.

    Come here Dilbert! Here boy!

...wings flailing like a foal’s legs kicking the air.

    Tagging Woes

Is there a traditional way to indicate "Mysteries" on fimfic? I am about three paragraphs into a story which is sort of a slow mystery about a librarian working in Canterlot and my only impulse on how to tag it is something like "Adventure/Slice of Life" which is actually contradictory. It doesn't seem anywhere close to dark enough to get a Dark tag and it's not like I'm killing anyone at the end

The Sandbox that is my Mind · 3:11pm May 25th, 2013

My brain is an idea generator. I mean, I would hope most people's brain perform this function to some degree, but I feel like I have it exceptionally bad. And while some of these ideas are like "I wonder what Pineapple and Ketchup taste like" many of them are story ideas. And they just keep building up.
I write slowly, it is my biggest problem as a writer. I can self edit reasonably well, character voice is something that I have an intuitive grasp of, I had fairly decent idea generation going on, if only I could just get out a single G-Damn first draft. I've been writing my Celestia story for, what, a month now? I sat down and wrote like 300 words in an hour and I was PROUD.
Anyway, enough about my problems. Point is that since I started this whole "Write Ponyfic to practice writing quickly" (Oh how well that's gone...) I have had a number of Ponyfic story ideas. I thought I'd keep a running catalog of them here. It might seem odd to keep a public catalog of ideas for things not yet written, but it's the sort of blog post I would, personally, find to be an interesting read. And so you can almost think about it as a letter to my future self? Since it is partially for my reference, this list is arranged by predicted length from shortest to longest.
Okay, I'm just gonna go now. EDIT: Not that any one is reading this but updating to reflect new ideas

Title: Thy Words...
Characters: Twilight and Luna
Notes: Princesses Twilight and Luna have tea during the daytime and talk about word choice. Experimentation with having Luna speak archaically. (A draft is written)

Title: To Love an Alicorn
Characters: Shining Armor mostly, with moments of Cadence and Twilight
Notes: Cadence and Twilight are flying and Shining Armor wishes he had wings.

Title: Examination
Characters: Celestia and Luna
Notes: A continuation of their conversation at the beginning of the Crystal Empire episodes, these stories are probably a dime a dozen, but I found some good dialogue for it in my physics notes.

Title: Really long, Blame Fedora Mask
Characters: Celestia and Twilight
Notes: I sort of came up with this one and wrote it on the spur of the moment. I'm really close to finishing it.

Title: Daring Do and the Eclipse Mirror (Excerpt)
Characters: Daring Do and Ponysona, The Lady Grey, Darjeeling of Bergamot
Notes: I made a couple different Ponysonas to pick from when I joined the site, and eventually Lady Grey won because I had a sudden flash of her as a Daring Do character. Features the Lipizzan civilization of New Whinnea

Title: The Reigns Slip
Characters: Celestia and an OC Quaestor Quill
Notes: Basically a story about what would happen if the French Revolution happened in Equestria.

Title: A Mask to Wear, A Mask to Hold
Characters: OC's? I dunno this one is pretty rough...
Notes: Filly cheats/fakes some great accomplishment, gets cutie mark for it. They are confused.

Title: The Memory of Footprints
Characters: Twilight, Fluttershy, Celestia (In writing), and an OC, Wander--maybe Spike
Notes: The opening of this is Twilight wakes up at her desk unable to remember the last three days holding a letter of Celestia forbidding her to come to Canterlot. She then casts a "Follow your footsteps" spell which allows Twilight to follow her past self around and find out what happened. A fun experiment with form.

Title: Insomnia "Trilogy"
Characters: Celestia, Nightmare Moon, Luna, eventually some Twilight
Notes: Sort of the big thing I'm working on. Three related oneshots about Celestia at night over the course of the plot.

The first 4 of these are sort of "Drabble length", that is a single conversation or scene, generally between just two characters. Probably ending up pretty close to 1000 words. I think I may try to do a sort of thirty minute prompt style thing with them, but for the above ideas. Just to sit down and hammer them out. Not sure what order to do them in because I'd like to finish a draft of my current fic first. But with my work going from like 9-4 I have been having trouble setting aside time to write. Maybe those will work better, we'll see. The rest are of indeterminate length, but I suspect they'll run longer.
It really is a lot when you lay it out, huh? I'd better get to work on that...

My brain is an idea generator.

You and I are alike on that concept.
