Musings of Blogging and Blogging on Musings and Why Silver is Surprisingly Hard to Forge. · 6:41pm Nov 21st, 2011

Long title is long.

With making a blog entry of any kind, I automatically feel guilty, because I know I'm criminally neglectful when it comes to things like blogs and journals. At best, I'll post twice a year. On the other hand, for once I actually have things to talk about, and since the majority of these things are Pony-fic related and I already have a blog here anyway, why the heck not!
Honestly, most of this will probably be my sketching out for future stories and complaining about forging my current stories because I kinda feel incredibly shy on Ponychan for some reason despite liking everypony there. Actually I'm probably shy because I like everypony there, it works like that with me sometimes. At my first Brony meetup, I shyly peered at them from behind a corner for five minutes before actually approaching. This, I learned was very silly because everyone else was at least just as shy as I was.

Anyway, on topic: "New" Story.

The story in question: The Silver Standard, a back story about Silver Spoon in the few years before she moved to Ponyville from Manehattan.
"New" is in quotes because I've been hammering at this thing since before I wrote Somewhere Only We Know and got blocked on it for the better part of six months. I only just recently kickstarted it back to life, but it's still a bit of a tough going. I actually blame the fact that I've been shoving it too hard. Stories work better (for me anyway) when they're not forced; if I have to force them, chances are I'm doing something wrong somewhere. Turned out, I was: I hadn't properly formed several characters yet. My background characters were flat.
Because this story mostly takes place in a Manehattan private school, with the exception of Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, almost everypony are essentially OCs. A few are based on other previous Hasbro ponies, or background characters, but because none of these have any fanon creation behind them and had maybe two lines of dialogue, they might as well have been OCs. And because this is essentially a story about the influence of other ponies on Silver Spoon (hell, it's the entire premise) the fact that I never sat down and formed fully functioning fillies to attend Silver's school with her, the story ended up crippling itself.
As soon as I went back and corrected this (and filled out Silver's class a lot more) the whole thing got back in motion right quick.
Hopefully, the first two chapters should be finished by mid December (it would be by Thanksgiving if not for final papers).
