This Damn Rewrite is Finally Getting Somewhere · 10:59pm May 2nd, 2013
Okay, let's not even waste any time and cut to the chase: Here's the Chapter One rewrite for Live by the Creed.
Yeah, remember that rewrite for Creed that I kept banging on about a few months ago? Well, there was a rewrite for Creed that I kept banging on about a few months ago. As much as I wanted to get work on it done, writer's block got in the way like a big, fuck-off wall, and I spent the first few weeks banging my head against the keyboard and hoping that I could use at least some of the jumbled mess I was bound to create. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to keep any of that nonsense because it all either changed too much or f*ck all. Thankfully, the block eventually went away, and finally–finally–managed to finish the first chapter of this damn thing.
As for why I'm so devoted to this thing instead of just continuing the story proper (no, I don't know why I put up chapter 14 anyway), well… the way the story begins bugs the everlasting crap out of me. The pacing is f*cked, the flow is about as smooth as a canoe ride down Mt. Everest, and there are more plot holes than a pony bum in an iron maiden. Once I realized this, I just couldn't let it go, which is the main reason why updates have come to a standstill.
BUT (and this is a big, smelly 'but'), even though I feel confident with how the first chapter's rewrite turned out, I figured I may as well run it by all of you just to see what you think. Soooo… whaddya think, if you don't mind me asking?
You shouldn't be bugged out of writing your fic due to some plot-holes and magical writer's fluff. (I guess that's what the rewrites are for, eh?) At least you caught onto this earlier than I have. A good experiment is to see a bulky fic, then compare the last chapter to the first. Usually the more you write the more a writing style changes and develops. Looking back on the fic, sure it had a few bumps, but I quite enjoyed the ride down Mt. Everest and I hope the road gets unblocked so I can continue my suicidal downhill descent
I read the rewrite, definitely improved. Just keep doing what you're doing, keep a positive mind, and don't let your confidence in this fic falter because you are a DAMN good writer
