Anonymity and the down vote. · 6:45pm Mar 27th, 2013
One of my biggest irks having published stories on this site is when I get a down vote with no explanation. So I started thinking of a way to fix that. I know some people want to remain anonymous so they don't talk and I'm fine with that. Personally I'm okay with getting a PM as to why you down voted my story but that breaks anonymity.
So I was thinking if the site put up say a ten question pop-up when you voted that informed only the author what people thought was wrong with the story. Options like, I don't like the tags, bad grammar/spelling, Marry sue, Characters out of character. Things like that. The downside is that people might just skip over this feature and the author gets hit with notifications that all say the first marked problem. If this feature was implemented it should be done for likes as well.
I can't think of a good system that won't be ignored. However the people that dislike the story due to something like the tags I can't change but ones that tell me things I can change would be nice. What do y'all think?
Email knighty (lead developer of site and admin) about this, it seems like a good idea, if well implemented.
If this happened, stories would only get one or two votes. People are too lazy to do a ten question thing to put one vote on a story. Myself included.

I don't think he actually meant a ten written question, more like. When you are asked for a reason when you downvote something.
"Which of the following was the problem?"
a. Incorrectly Tagged ( )
b. Badly formatted ( )
c. Grammar ( )
d. Spelling ( )
e. Other [_________________]
A couple more clicks, and you can help sort a much better down vote system, as well as making the author realize his/her mistakes.
It could be difficult to implement, but it is not a bad idea.
951900 That is exactly what I was imagining.
951821 and that is exactly what I was worried about.
