    You guys are great!

This is a shoutout for everyone who enjoyed reading my one-shot I published while preparing a re-write of my first two chapters for W2FA1. (If you haven't checked it out, feel free to. It's decent from what the pony folk say.)

Call me impressed! I usually make fun of myself and say my writing is garbage, but all that humor is being put aside for the duration of this blog.

I've been mulling over the confirmed rumors about season three's finale. So I've asked myself this question for about a week.

"When do I need to finally add the 'alternate universe' tag?"

As far as I've been informed, anything without alt. universe is a story that could feasibly fit into the show's canon. And if it clearly contradicts canon, it gets the somewhat-dooming alt. universe tag. My story is already on the fine line in regards to the new Trixie episode, so I'm wondering if the season's finale will finally force me to add the alt.-un. tag.

I know on average, about 5-10 people read my blogs, so maybe someone can lend their opinion (or fact!) on the matter.

I don't know about tagging it as alt-universe. Couldn't you just put in the summary that you ignore canon at a certain point?

771479 But isn't that the same thing as what an alt/ universe tag is supposed to do?

Fanfiction is alternate universe by default, therefore I don't see the need to do it unless the story is altering base level elements of the story (i.e. having no princess, a steampunk aesthetic, or other very drastic differences.)

771480 I guess so. It's just that some stories I've seen don't include a tag and just say when they ignore canon.

771485 Yeah, that's true.

771485 For some reason, even though I am romantically shipping two female technicolored horses, I didn't think of it that way.

For my stories, I set the start point after the end of season two, from that start point I summarily ignore the canon to build the fiction I had in mind. Everything from that point on is an AU, however since the only thing I'm affecting are things on a personal level (i.e. not introducing a massive world-shattering event) I think it's fine to leave the tag off.

looking forward to whenever you update btw.

Well, we still don't know if it would be permanent or not.

As for alt. univese tags... a lot of people won't need them.

We never know exact time spans between events of any episode.
And a lot of stories usually take place in a period of time when Twilight wasn't an alicorn yet.

You don't need any aternative universe tags, unless events of your story are happening after the event of her becoming an alicorn.

And if to think about it... any fanon things, as romance stories are already kind of in alternate universe, because all those romance strories aren't canon.
People who think about fanfics as alternate universes are absolutely right.

771527 771550 I clearly wasn't thinking clearly about the idea behind fanfiction :rainbowlaugh:

I may have mentioned this in passing in a blog, but I'm going to brush up the first 2 chapters before moving on. As for Act two... writing that will be quite a balancing act.
