Exactly what it says on the tin: I'm looking for recommendations. I want to read good stories. Crossovers, adventures, comedies... What do you like? What stories do you recommend?

* Not a bad story. A sad bit of backstory for Wonderbolts captain Spitfire. Short, sad, but not bad.

The Book of Friendship by BillyColt. A bit dark, but really good if you enjoy this sort of thing.

Yeah, I'm reading Book of Friendship already. I'll definitely check out the other two.
I could be a shameless bastard and plug my own fic, The Kindness of Strangers, by me.
But I'm going to plug Common Sky by SyrinKitty, which was the first MLP fan fic I read, and an very excellent read.
If you havent read it, check out Junior Speedsters Forever. It's one of the oldest pony fics out there and was the second fic I ever read (first being the unmentionable fanfic).
Another good and very sad fic is I couldn't Wake You Because You Can Never Wake Up Again, By Amberwings. Pretty recent and pretty good.
And finally, the one fic that I really need to get time to read more of, Gun With Occasional Pony, By Squeak Anon.
All are pretty popular so there's a chance you've read them already.

a good sadfic. Also, Squeak-Anon's on my watchlist because of Traveler (dammit, Squeak, update that story already!) already, so I couldn't help but check out "Gun" after getting caught up on Traveler.
Self-promotion is never a bad thing, so long as you don't emulate a certain showpony when you go about it...
