Art (Rating: Teen) · 12:49am Jan 11th, 2013

So, I need art done. I'm too busy with commissions to do myself art, so I'm hoping some of you guys are artists.

That's right, I need some art done by you guys. The story I'm doing, the Chrysalis one I mentioned, is called 'Beyond the Mask'. I don't want to give too much away, but to those who need a lot of inspiration, I request that you think a lot about espionage, masks and shady places.

I'm not asking you to Google me art. If I wanted to do that, I would. I'm requesting from one of you guys to make me art from the best of your abilities. What I envision for the art is this, and the one best to it is what I want:

-The title (Obviously) in bold letters in the corner, saying "Beyond the Mask". I want the colour to be green, and outlined by white.

- The picture itself is dark. A lot of it, actually.

- To the bottom left of the picture, a lamp is illuminating a lot of the right side of the picture, and the bottom of the picture.

- To the right, there's a window which is beaming moonlight onto the floor, and colliding with a chair.

- Where the chair is, someone is sitting there. However, all that is shown is the left leg, and the the right foot - as if you were sitting down and having a leg over the other.

- There is a bit of an outline to the person, but very invisible. Make it faint.

- A glowing ember can be seen, along with a bit of smoke coming off of it. Imagine a cigarette in the dark.

That's all I can think of. It's how I'd like it to be, and I want you guys to try and be creative. Most of the elements are basic and a lot of people can do it. I just want to see how accurate and how close you can get it to match my needs. Let the games begin! Also, I need it by next week, at the least. Try to sketch some things up and show 'em off!

Oh, and the reward is:

A) Mention in the story
B) Side-Character in an upcoming story.
C) I give you lots of hugs and kisses and maybe a little bit of sex...

Kidding, no sex. Or kisses. I'm straight, sorry.

There's probably two females. I don't think they like me much. :c

698546

Meaning that you can't see their features. Should've made that a bit more clear. :rainbowlaugh:

Sure, I'll try.

Oh-God-No.

Kidding. <3

I might try my hand at this over the weekend because procrastination from what I should be doing instead is a glorious thing. However, if I do so, it'd be vector art done in either Illustrator, Photoshop, or a combination of the two if I get frustrated with one of them midway through.

If I even finish it.

If I even start it.

If you even like this kind of artwork. I'm so terrible at drawing by hand that if I was responsible for that botched Jesus fresco restoration I'd hail it as my magnum opus. But I think I could do something rather interesting with the concept you outlined, and the harsh lines of vectored artwork might even fit the mood.

Let me know if you'd like me to try. I'll see if I have time tomorrow or over the weekend.

I'm up for anything, really. I use illustrator myself for my pieces, and I find it works well if you can use the tools.

I also have Photoshop for any effects like 'glow' or adjusting saturation, along with putting certain filters on it. By the way, the first piece of art you displayed was quite nice, even if it was subtle. The contrast worked well.

698675 Thanks. Those are my favorite two pieces of art I've ever done. I also did the banner on our group and a couple other things of little importance, for my own purposes. It's not a hobby I do very much, but it's fun. That Passage cover art started out as a battle scene on a dissolving clock face but as we changed our minds about details we gradually worked ourselves into art deco poster style. Go figure.

I'll give it a shot. If you like it, hooray, if you don't, it killed a couple hours.

Art is an expression, really. If you can adjust how you express your art, that's just perfect. If you prefer to express it in one way, that's even better. Your style seems to be like a mix of Jazz culture along with the War time poster's you use to see. I kind of think of BioShock when I look at the first one, now that I look at it. :rainbowkiss:

698708 Well, Rapture was pretty much the most popular example of art deco design aesthetics I've seen in recent times, and I do love art deco. I'm pretty sure I actually live in 1956. So yeah, jazz culture and old War propaganda is where I've taken a lot of my inspiration from. I can see the idea you described working really well in the same general format as an old movie poster. There's this one that's framed in a restaurant near me, but I can't think of the name of the movie for the life of me or else I'd Google it and show it to you. It looks similar to what you described and I think I could have a lot of fun with it. I'll definitely at least try.

Awesome. Can't wait to see it. Have fun with it, too!

This is the second time today I wish I could do something I know I can't!:raritycry:

Car hole, did you not think of asking me bro? I can do original baseless sketches, vectoring them if you want that. Scenery and such.

Just call me on Skype if you want me to do anything, I will be down, I have alot more free time now that I've finished submitting my portfolio for design school and game design school

Well, Myles, you're welcomed to do it and see if I like it. If I like a bunch of them, I'll - most likely - use interchangeable covers.

Starting my attempt at artwork, which will probably crash and burn and get abandoned almost immediately. However, one quick question before I start: the "person" in the image, is it male or female? That's probably the point where it's all going to derail anyway because I'm terrible at drawing people, but assuming the gods of artistry magically possess me during this, I'd like to know what I'm meant to be (badly) drawing. So, male, female, or something intentionally left ambiguous?

Also, would you object if he/she/it wore a hat?

Also also if there's a lamp on the left side which illuminates the right side, then how is the person (between left and right) not illuminated by it? Unless the lamp's really close to the foreground or out of frame. I'll experiment and see if I can make it look realistic.

Lamp is close to the foreground. Thankfully, you only need to display the persons feet and some of his legs, along with the outline of him.

But, it is male. So, that should make it easier. Also, the lamp IS in the foreground, hence why it fails to illuminate the background.

702746 Okay. I thought that's what you meant. I imagined a lamp sitting on a table next to him, yet all the light from it somehow passing through him and landing on the wall instead.

702751

Oh, God, no. That'd be weird. >.>

702758 Hence my confusion. Stupid mind's eye, getting the wrong impression from your wording. Pretty sure I know what I'm going to try (and fail) to do now. 4 AM here I come.
