Dead laptop :( · 12:57am Dec 30th, 2012
So I've got about 20 minutes of battery life on my laptop left before it dies forever. D:
I'm just putting this up here to inform any of you that progress on 'Through Hell And Back' may become stinted. However there may be ways around it - one of the stories I'm reading at the moment has been written on a Playstation 3, sooo... my February Write-Off fanfic should be safe........ :S
Later guys, I'm off to see if I can get my laptop fixed...
Wow, what's wrong? The Power brick? Or something internal?
D'ah shit. I've never owned my own laptop before, so I can't directly relate, but uhh yeah.
...
OH WAIT! You're talking about ME!
Yeah, I'm writing my story on a PlayStation 3 and a Nintendo Wii. I used to be able to work on it with a 3DS as well, until the site got updated a few weeks ago.
Here's the upsides and downsides to each:
PS3) Log in once, don't need to log in again. Much more memory space to load more of the site, therefore causing less of a risk of freezing. But, after a while, writing with the PS3 will get really, and i mean really, slow. Really bad lag if your chapters exceed much more than a thousand words. That's pretty much it.
Wii) Loading sequence is a little longer, but typing is much faster and doesn't lag as much. Also, if you have your Yahoo! account programmed to stay on, then you'll be signed in to fimfiction whenever. However, there are a couple more bad things about a Wii than a PS3. One; occasional 'out of memory' page reloads occur if you happen to be on the home page for too long, or if you pass a movie posted in somepony's comments. Two; typing gets a little choppy after a while, expecially if you wanna scroll up or down the page, which leads me to Three; whenever you work on your stories and you click the box, you'll be sent to the Wii Typing screen, which is only the top of your screen with keyboard buttons underneath. This tiny window makes it rediculously difficult to scroll up and down. You can only see two lines at once, and each line contains a maximum of about 30 characters. So, scrolling through your story is. Boring. As. Fuck. Plus, when you first click the box, it takes you to the very beginning of your writing! You've gotta scroll all the way down to the bottom by yourself, which, in the case of a long chapter (10,000+), might take at least ten minutes.
So, uhh, there ya go.
Still Breeze, I think this is a sort of repayment for what you've done for me thus far. Though it's not much, it's a start. I definitely advice getting a usb keyboard if you haven't already. Makes it much faster and easier, and it's compatible with both.
Have a good day, Still Breeze.
