Life Was Better Before Streaming · 4:11am May 18th
Ok, I know I'm probably going to catch a lot of flack over this but I'm going to say it, "Life was better before streaming." It seems like these days you have to have so many different streaming services to watch what you want. I remember back in the days when we simply had cable TV. Yes what you had to watch was limited but growing up it was all we knew and the ABC Friday night lineup was always a big thing. We all looked forward to it, whole families would gather around the TV to watch their favorite shows.
These days, everything seems to be so niche that people don't gather together to watch it. They sit there on their computer or streaming service on the TV alone watching their favorite show or whatever. Streaming seems to have changed the way shows are entirely and I'm not exactly a fan of it.
One huge thing, Hasbro made a grave mistake by putting ANG and MYM on Netflix. What they should have done was put the high budget movie in theaters and then put MYM on Discovery Family....along with marketing it a whole lot better. Regarding TYT, tiny shorts like that are ok on youtube and Netflix but more thought out and well made episodes shouldn't be on streaming.
Another bad thing, just to watch Thursday Night Football you have to have Amazon Prime and this year the NFL is putting their Christmas Day games on Netflix, not the networks like it was when I was growing up. I know many of you are probably going to say, "Whatever" over this but I am stating an opinion that many people who were born prior to 1980 probably share.
Some say, "Oh streaming is cheaper than cable!" Thing is, streaming services will continue to jack up their prices and if you wind up having to get multiple streaming services to watch everything you want it could wind up being more costly than cable. That along with the fact that I like my live TV and my local news station (KDVR out of Denver) is not on any streaming service.
Anyway, if you made it this far thanks for reading my rant. You all have a good day.
Like many tech advances, it's all about convenience. Massive double edged sword with plenty of ups and downs. The online age has really killed real life stuff ngl.
What's ANG and MYM stands for?

I agree. The digital world has really diminished real life stuff. While the convenience of streaming is nice, it takes away a lot of the anticipation people my age had growing up.

ANG was the G5 movie, MLP: A New Generation and MYM is Make Your Mark.

Okay that makes sense.
Ah, the days of weekly viewings and DVR...
5781473
I mean there still is some anticipation, mostly in terms of anime. Like, a majority of anime is still weekly, so you'll still have roughly six days of people discussing the latest episode and the like

DVR? When I was growing up if you had to miss something, you recorded it on your VCR....yeah I'm that old.
5781520
I don't watch anime but I'll take your world for it.
5781695
I too am old enough to remember using a VCR.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one here who remembers those days.

I also have a VHS/DVD player along with plenty of VHS tapes and DVDS to watch including VHS tapes from my childhood and my teenage years where I recorded Cartoon Network shows such as Toonami, movies along with TV shows from the 2000's such as Malcolm in the Middle, Greg the Bunny and Tremors the series.

Unfortunately for me I don't have any of my VHS tapes from my childhood nor do I still have a VCR. When I left home for college back in the 90s, that stuff didn't go with me. Also, other things have happened that caused it all to vanish (I won't bring it up where everypony can see it). I've adjusted to modern methods though although I do play DVD's in my PS5....and one great thing, I have the whole series of FiM on DVD.

I'm very sorry to hear that. *hugs*
Lucky you, I only have the first 3 season of FIM and still need to get the rest of the series.

One thing about seasons 8 and 9, they are region zero as they are primarily available in Malaysia....but they play everywhere. Seasons 1-7 are region 1, meaning they play only in the US and Canada.

Cool, I never knew that. Thank you for sharing that bit of information.

I wound up getting all of them by winning them in an auction at Ciderfest 2023 last November.

Lucky!
