    anime blog title

It's quite rare that I get a season that is already so defined right out of the gate. I don't think any of the shows have gone up or down the rankings since the beginning.

Train to the End of the World

Between the overt yuri of other shows this season, this one keeps it subtle.  It’s hard to spot among the carefree absurdity and creeping horror.

    The knives come out

As with any season of anime, I eventually have to start making cuts. Probably won't stop here, either. We'll see what the future holds.

Train to the End of the World

Between the overt yuri of other shows this season, this one keeps it subtle.  It’s hard to spot among the carefree absurdity and creeping horror.

Tonari no Youkai-san

"When you get the dates wrong and everybody you expected to see at FurCon instead shows up dressed for an IT conference."

The one single fault I have with this show is the teenage girl with a crush on an immortal man.  Fortunately that's just a subplot.
In other news, the gay German car really came out of left field.

Delicious in Dungeon

Did not expect the nipples.

The Fable

I’ve rarely seen this close of a platonic work relationship in any media.  The pair, assassin and handler, are not even really friends, but they definitely know each other well and do good work together.

Mysterious Disappearances

I’d previously compared this to Dark Gathering, and it doesn’t quite measure up to that.  It has its own merits, but I’m left feeling a little underwhelmed.

Kaiju No. 8
It’s entertaining, but is such a stereotype of shounen that I had to let it go.  If you swapped out the characters and setting, the basic plot could be exactly the same as a dozen other stories.  It’s not a bad anime, but there are plenty of other shows this season that are actually showing me something I haven’t seen before.  Dropped after four episodes.

Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again
For a premise about the two of them being young again, the show sure focuses on when they were old, the extended family, and unrelated plot.  I’m not saying this makes the show bad, but it’s not really what I want to watch.  It feels meandering.  Dropped after four episodes.

And now down into the manga.

List organized in rough order of my most to least favorite.

Below are those manga that I recommend.

Normality And Monsters

A girl who has bad social skills realizes a popular classmate is actually a disguised monster that eats people and is like, "Wow, she's really good at hiding her true self and fitting in, I should take lessons."
A manga with this much body horror shouldn't be this entertaining and uplifting, even edging into romcom territory.  Art is a little minimal.

Below are those manga that I conditionally recommend.

Terminator Sharehouse

A robot goes back in time to kill a guy, but she's kind of clumsy and sort of cute and so they end up living together.
Short.  I wish this didn't turn into a harem, but it was an okay comedy with a decent ending.

The strongest in another world with assassination skills ~ I, who has mastered alchemy and assassination, dominate the world from behind ~

A god from a fantasy world isekais a video game assassin from our world to kill another god.
Huge info dumps.  Flashy magic art.  Despite the main plot, this is really more of a slice of life crafting manga.

Hotch Potch Punch

A girl starts doing MMA because she likes hitting people.
Of the small handful of "high school girl becomes MMA prodigy" stories I've read, this one isn't my favorite.  It's not bad, but doesn't stand out in the niche genre.

Cacomistle's Anthology

Short randomness.  Some comedy, some ecchi.  Author's fetish on full display.

Magic, Me, and My Big Master!

A witch of legend lives alone.  A boy comes to ask for magic lessons.  She's literally twice his height.  That's really all the plot I could glean.
While yes, it's an ecchi shoutacon fest, it's more restrained than it could have been.

The Evasion Skill Turns Into a “Wall Clip Bug” Under Specific Conditions! When I Clipped Through the Dungeon Wall, I Was Able To Collect An Infinite Amount of First-Time Clear Rewards and So My Stats Skyrocketed!

A kicked-from-the-party story.
Seems to go fast, I had to check pages weren't missing.  Vaguely interesting power, but not much else noteworthy.  Not many chapters yet, but an ecchi harem seems implied by the peripherals.

Below are those manga that I do not recommend.

You're Kidding...

Short office romance with a slightly gap moe boss.
Just slightly.  Not really much to it.

Magical Girl Tsubame: I Will (Not) Save The World!

In a world where the sky sometimes makes people go insane and kill each other, a girl turns her friend into a magical girl to fight it, and then goes away.
I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be confused, or if the writing here is just kind of lacking.  Unconventional art.

The Foghorn Leghorn talking to anime characters meme has recently gone mainstream and the voice actor started reading a few of them.
There aren’t any links to this that embed on FIMFic, though.

IIRC there are flavored condoms, so that product must exist.

How huge are those schoolgirls that they can be crucified on Chinook rotors that way?

Just eyeballing it, they've got to be somewhere near 7 or 8 meters tall.

Minor spoilers for the show: It's a lilliput situation; it's not that the girls are huge, but rather the helicopters are scaled for their very tiny operators.

I find myself more bored than anything by Fable, but I do wonder about the girl. I can’t tell whether she’s truly an idiot or just playing at it. The most interesting character may be the local boss keeping an eye on Fable (and occasionally trying to get him killed).

Still really liking Train, plus now they’re implying the insane Choo-Choo guy has more of a back story.

Here’s the problem I’m having.

Girls Band Cry: some misfit girls form a band.
Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night: some misfit girls help one of them kind of form a one-woman band.
Whisper Me a Love Song: a misfit girl decides to join a band after filling in temporarily and immediately falls in love with a girl who doesn’t understand love or her own feelings.
A Condition Called Love: a guy immediately falls in love with a misfit girl who doesn’t understand love or her own feelings.

It’s been rather hard to keep all that straight. It doesn’t help that Cry and Whisper even feature a nearly identical guitar. I’m going to have to be careful when I review them in my blog after the season that I don’t mix any of them up.

It’s a tough needle to thread as to when to reveal the big picture and I feel like Disappearances is being a little too deliberate in remaining opaque when several of the main characters already know everything.

I’m liking the redo of Spice & Wolf as much as the original, but largely because it is the original. It’s covered precisely the same plot so far, leaving me wondering what the point was of remaking it. I’m waiting for an FMA-style point of divergence, but so far it offers nothing new aside from an updated art style.

And that’s only the beginning. CH-47 has a gross takeoff weight of around 50k lbs. They look to be around 2/3 as tall as a rotor diameter. Given how the girls look and compare to other full-size characters, I’ll assume they’re around 5’5” and 100 lbs. The two together would weigh an equivalent of 80k lbs. The rotors could never support them. Plus even under that weight the rotors aren’t drooping at all, even though they do noticeably under their own weight when stopped. And then they manage to turn the rotors without even starting the engines…
