Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

Update on AJA, Feathered Hearts and Midnight Rising · 9:35pm February 9th

Let’s start with some good news. AJ_Aficionado is now a week-plus removed from his procedure, which basically kinks his lower esophagus like a spiral sink trap right above the stomach to prevent acid backwash. He reports he has some minor reflux after surgery, which is said to be normal and should disappear with time along with the post-operative pain. He went home at least briefly, but is staying with family for at least as long as he needs to remain on a liquid diet.

But he does check in occasionally, and even replied to a longpost comment I left on one of his stories. He should be back home and available again by V-day, and hopefully able to eat normally again—as in, for the first time in years—in a month or so. Fingers and toes crossed, buddy. I know you’re looking forward to once again enjoying such true all-American staples as Mexican food and Chinese buffets!

In the meantime, the rewrite of the last Midnight Rising chapter proceeds. Yes, I guess that makes it a rewrite of a rewrite. :ajbemused: Thus far I’ve excised about a thousand words from the previous version and replaced them with over two thousand. It’s been a slow process, simply because work hasn’t really allowed me to spend much time writing. And because personal matters, including worrying about AJA and one other person, haven’t had me in the best mood for clop.

But, I’m pretty sure I’ve hit on the right approach to ending the story’s griffon arc this time. I plan to finish the revamped chapter this weekend, so prereaders can expect to get it soon. I’ll also be de-publishing the previous version of the chapter when I release this one. Afterwards, I plan to work on the next full chapter of both Midnight Rising and Continuation and Chronicles, to give me a couple things to switch between when I do or don’t want to work on clop.

As we head into a new major story arc, coming chapters of C&C are going to be generally light on suggestive content and heavy on borrowing scenes, characters, and lines from the original story again. Combat is certainly coming, though. And just like before, it will be a gradually building crescendo of battles culminating in an epic struggle to save the city; one that includes the introduction of two very familiar and popular characters to the story. I do have a couple additional adult scenes planned for the main story, but they’re for later, not now.

Work on Eros will continue as well, as I already have a lot written for additional chapters. But Midnight Rising has priority for now. The latest chapter sticks out like a sore writing thumb to me, and thus, I need to fix it. That said, I still need to respond to comments on Eros and promise to do so this weekend. In the meantime, thanks again for following my stories, and I’ll try to do justice to them going forward.

C&C with less clop you say? I might have to pick it up again.

I'm ready whenever you are there

I can live with that

Welcome back. But if clop's the issue, why haven't you been reading the T-rated chapters? That's what they're for, and there's been plenty of stuff happening in the story outside of it.

I'll try to get it to prereaders later today.

Cool. I'll try to get the next C&C chapter out or at least off to prereaders by month's end.
