Hello everyone and welcome back to the question of the week.

So, tying into last week's questions (feel free to look at that question if you haven't already), I wanted to talk more about Neo Somnambula: Desert Lotus.

Could Sea Pods/Cities be a great starting point for an Island Adventure?

Hello everyone, so as I try to motivate others to participate in the amazing Tropical Post-Apocalyptic Story Contest, I stumble upon various videos that give me some ideas. One such video is the one below:

Question of the Week #151 (More NS)

Hello everyone and welcome back to the question of the week. Admittedly I've had a hard time figuring out questions to ask and the fact that I've been wotking on other non mlp related projects doesn't help much either.

I've been having trouble focusing on my mlp projects as of late. I've even been having trouble working on Act 3, so I've decided to try to read through the whole story so far.

    Apologizes...

Sorry for not being frequent with my Questions of the Week. I've been busy with some projects as well as homebrewing DnD 5e content. :twilightblush:

Yeah, that's not a great excuse, but it is what it is.

Hopefully I'll have an idea for a question or two later (that's the other problem, thinking of questions I haven't already asked), we'll see. :rainbowwild:

Question of the Week #123 · 2:26am Sep 27th, 2023

Hello everyone, sorry for not doing one of these last week. It was kind of a busy/weird week and I wasn't able to think of any interesting or clever questions. :twilightblush:

So, I'm working on an original story idea (not mlp related, but I will be using some pony artwork anyway) about a world where mad scientists, mutants and monsters are a large influence on the world. While it is still Earth, aspects of the world have been completely altered by these strange/dastardly experiments. :duck:

This inquiry will be a bit more about worldbuilding/thought experiment, so please, feel free to only to comment but maybe give some feedback to the other comments as well.

Now the question is, how do you suppose the actions of these mad scientists might have changed/influenced the world (geographically, biologically, politically, religiously, etc...)? :rainbowderp:

And that's the question of the week.

Thank you all for coming may you all have a splendid day.

I like the idea of little demesnes, where the occasional mad scientist sets himself up as leader of a little place. As part of that, I think it’d be funny if some experiments ran amok and so now there are just no-go zones, like oh a golem lives there who tries to plant ponies in the ground so you can’t go there, here’s a place where plant magic went wild / here nothing grows but just in this one spot, here’s a place where it’s always raining, gotta go around this one area just because a shield spell went wrong and now anypony who goes in gets hopelessly lost.

If you haven't read Epsilon-Delta's "A Witch in Broad Daylight", I really like their version of mad scientists.

They are practically a cult that has two main science faction that has different a philosophy when it comes to obtaining science edge. Both of them "peer into the void" where the supposed gods live that will cause them to go crazy upon gazing. But the upside is that during their amnesiac-manic episode, they gain a short term boost in whatever they create. They simply won't remember what and how they made their creations after the "mad science" wear off. The downside is that they have a very limited amount of gazing into the void, less than 10 seconds worth, before they succumb into madness for good.

Either way, one faction believes in robot supremacy while the other prefers biological supremacy. You know, chimera ponies and stuff.

Taking inspiration from that, if your world is going to have mad scientist, they gotta be mad about certain stuff. They are probably mad about Monsters, knowing your interest in it, so I propose they are mad about certain aspects like "biological vs biomachines vs cosmic". Maybe even magic too.

Since they have a varied interest, they all could form their own factions with like minded mad scientists. We have so much stories about faction vs factions, so we could spice it up and make them all friendly and host like a secret mad science olympics to see which is the best every year.

But, like every story, it will eventually devolve into faction vs faction when the world is nearing collapse or something. Probably because of believe and ethics or something. Enough that the normal humans might join the "good guys".

As for how they would physically alter the world, I would think the technological ones would have normal stuff, but augmented like a Cyberpunk genre while the more cosmic ones would have analog horror-esque creatures everywhere.

I like the idea where appearances are the opposite of reality. Cute monsters are dangerous and hideous ones will stop at nothing to help, even going as far as giving you the carapace off your back.

The scientists are incredibly dangerous but can all be mollified by a receptive and curious audience. They hate each other with unbridled passion because only themselves know the “real truth.”
