Where'd You Come From? Where'd You Go?: A Little Mucking Around in Fimfiction Referrals

I like to peek at the stats pages on my stories from time to time, especially at the referrals section. It's interesting to see where people are coming from.

    Tree and Poetree

Hooray! There's nothing like that wonderful feeling of getting a new story out. Although the latest one isn't a story as such, but a bundle of poetry. Poetry as written by Fluttershy. This has been a fun little project. I had never done much with poetry either reading or writing, so it's been nice to stretch those muscles. And it does feel like mental stretching, trying to find words that not

Hello, I noticed it has been a few months since my last blog post so this is mostly just to say I’m still around. There was a time on this site when a gap of only a couple of months wouldn’t be anything to bat an eye at, when you could assume safely that a person was coming back. But in this era, you can’t quite take that for granted. Alas.

Weeknotes 2023-03-31 · 3:11am Apr 1st, 2023

Is it Friday again already? That week went fast; I feel like I hardly had time to read anything. Well, pony stories are something you find the time for nonetheless. Here are the stories I managed to fit into the gaps.

Sanctuary

I like me some Twidash, and this story has it. The plot—Twilight taking care of an injured and flightless Rainbow Dash—is nothing new, but that's okay. Most plots aren't really new. I'll be frank: this needed a proofreader.
The prose is sloppy, redundant, and vague. There are a lot of opportunities to tighten things up. To end on a positive note. The titular sanctuary is inspired and really perfect for Rainbow Dash. It is not one still spot, but a space, high above all concerns. Letting her share this with Twilight is a beautiful moment.

Teacup

Ooh, a nice little story about Trixie getting up to shenanigans with that teacup spell again, this should be fun. Wait, what's that horror tag doing there. Folks, it earns that horror tag. And yet, Trixie is happy. So shouldn't we be glad for her? She's certainly in a much more stable place than her canon counterpart, none of the drama, none of the monster attacks, etc. "It's fake happiness, doing it with an electrode doesn't count." And why is that? Why isn't the happiness appealing unless there's a possibility of unhappiness with it? The author's note, links to another classic story that uses a similar trope. And this one wouldn't feel out of place in one of those big anthologies for English class. So instead of going on philosophizing about the paradoxes of happiness, I will just leave the lines above as the discussion questions. Break out into small groups everyone.

Is that really everything? Well, like I said, I didn't get around to reading much. Such is life. I didn't write much either : Hopefully your week was more productive. But whether it was or wasn't, now there's a brand spanking new week to give things another go in. You got this!

Here is the soundtrack to this blog post:
