M.A. Larson & Alicorns. What's the Deal? · 7:03pm Feb 10th, 2023
So, being a latecomer to MLP, I've gradually picked up on a number of running jokes in the brony community. Some of them are pretty obvious (Applejack cries on the inside, 20 percent cooler, etc), while others continue to baffle me to this day.
One particularly strong case of the latter involves writer M.A. Larson and the fandom constantly associating him with alicorns. I'm assuming one good reason for that is that he wrote the episode where Twilight became an alicorn. A decision that was clearly a subject of controversy among the bronies.
But is there more to this that I don't know? Because whenever I hear bronies talking about Larson, they nearly always talk about him as though alicorns are some weird obsession he has. Is it just because he wrote Magical Mystery Cure, or am I missing something?
If anyone can explain this to me, please do. I'd love it if I could finally get some answers!
I think it’s less of him being an alicorn fanatic and more in regards to his episodes ending with some major status-quo-changing transformations. M.A Larson has always been associated with major episodes that really impact the show and you know Larson is behind something if you have a cool new alicorn transformation or anything that really has to do with change in general.
Simply put, M.A Larson’s episodes are often associated with change. I hope that helps a bit.

Ah, that makes sense. I know people talk quite highly about his episodes in the grand scheme of things, but I haven't kept track of enough of them to make that connection.
Thanks for clearing that up!
