Twilight and Flurry Heart get summoned to save Christmas when an important reindeer falls ill.

Life has been going well in Equestria and Hearth's Warming Eve is coming up. Little does anyone expect that a holiday in another world has been jeopardized. Twilight and her niece are about to receive word of this. What is the great emergency, and can they find a solution before it's too late?

The Mysterious Letter

All was going well as everyone in Equestria put up their decorations for Hearth's Warming Eve. Cadence and Shining Armor had decided to spend the holiday with Twilight that year, so Flurry Heart would be with her aunt again.

"I remember that time I messed up the pudding. I know better now.", said Flurry as she helped Twilight mix up Chancellor Puddinghead's pudding recipe.

"How could anyone forget that? You were still a baby then, so you were being mischievous.", said Twilight with a laugh.

Suddenly, Twilight and Flurry jumped when Spike let out a loud belch. Luckily, they didn't spill any ingredients into the bowl and mess up the pudding.

"Sorry for startling you. I have a letter for you.", said Spike.

Flurry took the scroll and opened it to read. When Twilight read it, she was worried too.

Anyone who gets this, please help me.

The biggest winter holiday here is on the line.

Signed, S C

Twilight and Flurry were confused.

"Who has those initials?", asked Twilight.

"Beats me.", said Flurry.

Just then, Twilight spotted a small crystal that had fallen to the floor when the letter was opened. She touched it and then a white vortex began swirling around both her and Flurry Heart. Spike quickly grabbed their winter clothes and tossed them to them. The vortex made the two alicorns dizzy and they closed their eyes after putting their coats and scarves on.

Meeting Santa and the Reindeer

When the swirling stopped, Twilight and Flurry found themselves standing in a raging blizzard when they opened their eyes. However, they were able to identify a large castle joined to a series of stables off to one side. They made a run for the large castle so they could get inside before they froze. Once inside, they were met by a large person dressed completely in red. He looked worried.

"I see someone got my letter for help. My name is Santa Claus.", said the man as he shook with Twilight and Flurry.

"My name is Twilight Sparkle. This is my niece, Flurry Heart. We're from the land of Equestria.", said Twilight.

"What seems to be the problem you're having, Santa?", asked Flurry Heart.

"Didn't you see how bad the weather is outside? I won't be able to get through it in order to deliver all of the presents to the children this Christmas.", said Santa.

Twilight and Flurry followed Santa to where the sleigh and the reindeer were. However, they only counted eight reindeer.

"Let's see. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen are all here. Where's Rudolph?", asked Flurry.

"Come with me. I'll take you to him.", said Blitzen after Santa unhooked his harness.

As Blitzen led Twilight and Flurry to Rudolph's stall in the stables, he told them to put masks on for their own safety. Twilight's eyes went large and Flurry put a hoof over her mouth when they saw poor Rudolph, because he did not look too swift. His eyelids were droopy, he had a thermometer in his mouth, he had ice on his head, he was wrapped in a blanket, and he was constantly coughing and sneezing.

"Hi Dad.", said Rudolph after he blew his nose and took the thermometer out of his mouth.

"How are you feeling, son? Any better?", asked Blitzen.

"I think so, but not enough to be able to lead Santa's sleigh this Christmas Eve.", said Rudolph sadly.

"My goodness! You have a cold.", said Twilight.

"I woke up sneezing my head off two days ago. With my nose all stuffy, it can't provide the bright glow that Santa needs in order to break through tonight's blizzard.", explained Rudolph between coughs.

"Poor thing. I'm sorry that you have a cold, but Aunt Twilight and I will pray that you get feeling better.", said Flurry as she gave Rudolph a hug.

After hooking Blitzen back up, Santa explained why he needed help.

"I guess Rudolph told you that he can't lead me through the blizzard tonight. Can you hold it back long enough for me to get clear of the North Pole?", asked Santa.

As Twilight gave a nod, Flurry Heart assured Santa that they would be able to help him and the other reindeer.

"Where we come from, there is a region where snowstorms are worse than this. We can certainly create a gap for you to get through.", said Flurry.

Holding back the Snowstorm

After Twilight and Flurry had put their coats and scarves back on, they rushed outside and charged up their horns. As soon as they were ready, they fired off two beams that converged and pierced a large hole through the snowstorm.

"GO!", Flurry shouted over the howling wind as Santa and his reindeer charged out into the night.

Once the sleigh was airborne, Twilight and Flurry spread their wings and flew alongside to make sure their gap in the blizzard would not close up. After six minutes in flight, the snowstorm began to thin out and Twilight waved to Flurry that they could stop casting their magic. Flurry waved back and they eased off until their horns were no longer glowing.

"Stay with my son until we get back.", called Blitzen as Santa flew further into the night sky.

Twilight and Flurry acknowledged Blitzen's request and they flew back to Santa's castle to keep Rudolph company. In order to make sure they didn't catch the cold, they put their face masks back on over their muzzles.

"Did they make it?", asked Rudolph before he sneezed.

"Yes, we held back the snowstorm long enough for Santa to get clear.", said Twilight.

"Here, drink this. It will help you get better.", said Flurry as she poured a small cup of cold medicine.

Rudolph nodded and drank up the syrup. Knowing that cold medicine would make the one taking it feel sleepy, he laid down and closed his eyes. Santa and the reindeer arrived back at the North Pole seven hours later as the snowstorm subsided.

"How is he doing?", asked Blitzen.

"He's sleeping right now. We gave him some cold medicine.", whispered Twilight.

"I understand. Thank you.", said Blitzen.

"I cannot thank you enough for helping us get through the snowstorm. This orb will transport you home.", said Santa as he pulled out a glowing white ball.

Twilight nodded and took the orb. She and Flurry touched the orb and closed their eyes in concentration on going home to Equestria. The orb flashed and the energy enveloped them. Before they had vanished completely, all of the reindeer called out to them.

"MERRY CHRISTMAS!!", they yelled.

Twilight and Flurry opened their eyes for a second and smiled at the reindeer. Then their vision became fuzzy and they shut their eyes again.

Returning to Equestria

When Twilight and Flurry Heart opened their eyes again, they were back in the kitchen at Twilight's castle as if no time had passed at all in Equestria. They finished making the pudding and continued getting ready for Hearth's Warming Eve. Like always, the holiday went absolutely WONDERFULLY. Gifts were exchanged, lights twinkled in the night, and songs were sung. That night, as everyone was sleeping, a bright light flashed outside Twilight's castle windows. The flash roused Twilight and Flurry for a moment, but they thought it was part of their dreams.

The next morning, as Cadence and Shining Armor were packing to return to the Crystal Empire, something caught Twilight and Flurry's attention. Two large presents had been left for both of them, along with a card. When they opened the card, they were amazed.

Dear Twilight and Flurry,

Thank you for helping Santa and the reindeer get through the blizzard. These gifts are a sign of appreciation from myself, my dad, and my three uncles, Dasher, Comet, and Cupid.

Merry Christmas,

Rudolph

When Twilight and Flurry opened their gifts, they were shocked. Twilight had been given a stained-glass window for her castle to remember when she and Flurry had saved Christmas, and Flurry had been given a thick warm quilt to keep her warm in the winter. The quilt was embroidered with numerous beautiful designs in different colors that changed shades when exposed to different intensities of light. They immediately wrote "Thank you" cards and had Spike send them to Rudolph. After going their separate ways, they remained friends with Rudolph for many years to come.
