It's going to be a nice normal week at camp, right? Wrong. Something is happening to Twilight.
One day before the class is going to Camp Everfree a mishap in her lab causes Twilight to hide her eyes with her hair. Refusing to pull the hair away. She also starts displaying new powers as well. The others starts to worry about her, but she rejects them every time they bring it up. Though of course she can't keep it secret forever.
Heavily inspired by Naruto. So if you know nothing about it then I suggest you either stay away from this story or you can do some research about dōjutsu.
"Twilight? Are you sure this is a good idea?" Spike asked his owner as she was stood over a table of different chemicals and some blood samples.
"Of course I am Spike. If I wasn't sure it was safe I wouldn't be doing this." Twilight said as she flipped through a book.
A few days ago she noticed something weird about her family tree. Her great-great-great-great-grandfather was apparently of japanese descent, but she had found no record of him anywhere. This led to her trying out this DNA experiment.
“Do you really need to do such an experiment? I get it, your ancestor is shrouded in mystery, but he died long before your grandparents were born.” Spike argued as he didn’t trust the very sophisticated experiment.
“Yes, Spike. I want to know if I have actual Japanese descent or not. Now can you be silent for a second please? This part is very tedious. I need to have focus, so that I don’t make a mistake." Twilight answered, but when she was going to continue a loud knock came from her door, startling her and causing her to drop the vial she was holding.
"Twilight? It's time to go to bed or you're going to oversleep!" her father said on the other side of the door.
"Alright! I'll be out in a minute!" Twilight said and turned back to her experiment.
The second she did the whole room was engulfed in an orange flash as the whole experiment exploded. Twilight was thrown against the wall with heavy force and landed on the ground with a loud thud.
"TWILIGHT!" Spike shouted as he ran over to her.
"Ouch!" she groaned before her eyes landed on her dog, "Spike! Are you unharmed!?" Twilight shouted in worry, grabbing the dog and lifting him onto her lap.
"I'm okay Twilight, but I'm more concerned about you." Spike said as Twilight released him from an embrace.
"What? What happened?" Twilight asked curiously.
Spike ran out of the room and came back with a hand mirror a few minutes later. He gave it to Twilight who took a look at her reflection. Her face was covered with soot and her hair was smoking and some of it was singed because of the explosion, but what caught her attention was her eyes.
When she got a good look at them she blinked multiple times to check if her eyesight had been affected by the explosion, but when her eyes didn’t return to normal she let loose a scream that the neighbours would likely hear loud and clear, but that was the farthest thing from Twilight’s mind.
Shortly after the scream faded both of her parents and her brother came bursting through the door to see Twilight huddled up in a corner.
“Twily!” Shining Armour shouted in worry as he came up to his sister.
Twilight didn’t answer verbally, but her shaking and her eyes were enough of an answer for her older brother.
He bent down and embraced his sister while whispering reassuring words. Her parents watched, shaking with worry and fear. When Shining had gotten Twilight to calm down, he helped her up on her feet and not even seconds later Twilight had locked herself in a tight embrace with her mother who returned the embrace.
Twilight looked into her mother’s eyes with her own eyes purple with a ripple pattern of rings on them.
“I’m scared…” was all the girl said before she let loose an ocean of tears.
Twilight grunted as she rolled out of her bed and sat up on the floor. She reached for her glasses and put them on, but then everything became blurry. She took of her glasses again. Everything was clear and visible. She realized that whatever happened to her eyes it had fixed her vision as she no longer needed glasses, but when she looked at herself in a mirror she saw that her eyes had not returned to normal and probably never would. She put on the camping clothes and went to the bathroom. She brushed her hair in a way so that she could have hair cover her eyes while still being able to see through. Kinda like a one way mirror. While also being able to tie it in a ponytail. She went downstairs and got herself some breakfast before leaving for school.
"Hey! Girls!" Twilight shouted as she came closer to the school.
"Hey Twilight!" all six of her friends shouted in unison.
When she came up to them they noticed that her hair was covering her eyes.
"Um...Twilight? Why are you covering your eyes like that?" Sunset asked as Twilight put down her luggage.
"I don't want to talk about it." Twilight said crossing her arms nervously.
"Oh. Darling your eyes isn't something you should cover up." Rarity said as she walked up to Twilight and started to reach towards Twilight's face to move the hair, but Twilight gently pushed it away.
"Don't." Twilight said as she turned to board the bus.
"That was weird." Rainbow Dash said.
"She has some sort of energy around her. This energy around her is powerful, but it's not equestrian magic." said a voice behind them.
The six girls looked behind them and saw a face they hadn't seen in a while.
"Adagio." Sunset groaned.
"What? I just wanted to make a point." Adagio said crossing her arms.
The two other former sirens joined Adagio as all the students boarded the bus. Sonata and Aria sat down at the row on the opposite side of Twilight while Adagio sat down next to Twilight. The main six sat on the row behind Twilight and The Dazzlings and they weren't happy, but before they could begin an argument or something Adagio spoke to Twilight.
"So Twilight, what caused you to want to cover your eyes?" Adagio asked, but Twilight didn't answer.
"Okay, maybe an introduction would be a better start. I'm Adagio Dazzle. Those two there are Aria Blaze and Sonata Dusk." Adagio said gesturing towards her sisters. "Now we're going to say one thing we like and one thing we don't like and then you do the same. Think you can do that?" Adagio said.
Twilight took some time, but eventually nodded slowly.
"Good. I like singing, but I don't like to be ignored." Adagio said.
"I like action movies, but I don't like Sonata's babbling." Aria said
"I like Tacos, but I don't like Aria being a meanie." Sonata said.
Twilight sat silent for a little while and just before Sunset was about step in Twilight began to speak.
"I like books, but I don't like experiments going wrong." Twilight said.
"Was it a failed experiment that caused you to cover your eyes?" Adagio asked.
After a moment of silence Twilight nodded.
The main six's jaws dropped.
"Can you show me one of your eyes? The right one?" Adagio asked.
Twilight sat still for a minute, but eventually reached up to her hair. She pulled it slightly back so that Adagio could see it. Adagio's eyes widened slightly, but not much. After a few seconds Twilight let her hair fall back in front of her eye again.
"Oh my. That is a good reason to cover your eyes." Adagio said with a thoughtful look.
"Can you keep it secret?" Twilight half pleaded.
"I won't even tell it to my sisters. My lips are sealed." Adagio promised.
"Oh come on! You show it to one of the Dazzlings, but not to one of us?" Rainbow Dash said angrily.
"Sorry girls, but Adagio was just very persuasive." Twilight said with regret in her voice.
"It's okay Twilight. I think even I would have been persuaded by that." Sunset said giving a forgiving look.
"Thank you Sunset." Twilight said.
For the rest of the bus ride Twilight stayed silent. Only answering with body language.
When the bus reached camp and every student had walked out and retrieved their luggage an introduction was held at the center of camp. Twilight didn't really pay attention to it, but they got her attention when they pulled out a sack full of cards. They said that every students were to pull out a card and those who had the same picture were to share one of the tents. Twilight walked up and reached into the sack. She pulled out a card and looked at it.
"I got sapphire." Twilight said.
"I got sapphire too." Adagio said showing her card.
Twilight was half relived and half unnerved. Relived because then her secret would stay safe and unnerved because Adagio was a complete stranger. Twilight entered the tent and began unpacking. After a few minutes Adagio entered. She walked up to her own bed and unpacked after a few minutes of silence Adagio spoke.
"So you're the one who has a talking dog?" she said and gestured towards Spike.
"Yeah. His name is Spike." Twilight said lying down on her bed and quickly fell asleep.
Two days later
"You know you don't have to hide your eyes here. Right?" Adagio said
"I want to go like this so that I get used to it." Twilight said before leaving the tent.
When she walked outside she found her friends waiting for her. They all sat down by the lake next to the camp and sat there in silence for a few minutes before Sunset broke the silence.
"So what went wrong with your experiment?" she asked.
"The whole thing blew." Twilight replied carefully.
"Yikes. Did it damage your eyes or something?" Rainbow Dash said.
"No. The opposite actually. I no longer need glasses." Twilight explained.
"Then why would ya hide yer eyes?" Applejack asked.
"I...I don't really know. They changed and it looked so freaky, so I decided to cover them up." Twilight answered.
"Freaky? What do you mean with that?" Sunset asked, though Twilight refused to answer.
Twilight zoned out for a few minutes and Sunset attempted to pull back Twilight's hair, but Twilight noticed and on impulse stretched out her arm to push Sunset's hand away. Suddenly when her hand was open a burst of wind sent Sunset crashing into their five friends.
"Ow...What the heck?" Sunset said.
"Oh my God! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean it!" Twilight said shocked as she ran up to her friends.
"It's okay Twilight, but how did you do that?" Sunset asked curiously.
"I don't know. I was just going to push your hand away." Twilight said as tears became visible coming out from under her hair.
"Hey it's okay Twilight it didn't hurt that much." Sunset said as she got up.
"Speak for yourself." Rainbow Dash said while staggering to her feet "You weren't the one everyone fell onto.".
"Can you do that again?! Just don't do it at us." Pinkie Pie said bouncing to her feet.
"How is she goin' to do it if she doesn't even know how she did it?" Applejack asked.
While the main six talked about what just happened, Twilight began questioning her new eyes.
'Did my eyes cause this?' she thought as she placed her hand over her right eye.
"Twilight are you okay?" Rainbow Dash said as she had noticed Twilight standing there frozen in place with her hand over her eye.
"I'm fine." Twilight said and waved her hand. Just then a black rod suddenly shot out from her palm and hit a tree right next to them. "Scratch that. I'm NOT fine.".
Sunset grabbed the rod and pulled it out of the tree.
"It's not metal even though it feels like it. I have seen a lot of things, but nothing like this." Sunset said as she tried to bend it, but to no avail.
Sunset gave the rod to Twilight who looked at it very carefully. She tried to bend it and to everyone's surprise the rod split in two like it was a stick.
"How did you do that?" Sunset asked shocked.
"I don't know. I was just going to test it's strength and it just split like it was a stick." Twilight said confused.
Sunset then got Twilight to take an arm wrestling match which Sunset won, but that only spread more confusion. The main six started to come up with theories while Twilight sat down and looked at the two rods.
'I can create these?' Twilight thought to herself.
She opened her hand and pointed it at the ground trying to create another one, but nothing happened. Then a splitting headache struck her. Her impulse kicked in and she started to walk towards the forest. Her friends noticed and followed, though they kept themselves at a distance.
When Twilight was few hundred meters into the forest her headache caused her to drop down to her knees. She clutched her head in pain as she fell onto her side. She pushed with all willpower and sat up, but the pain was to much and she put one of her hands on the ground. Then strange markings appeared on the ground and a large smoke cloud came out of nowhere. When the smoke settled Twilight looked up and saw a huge chameleon like creature with the same eyes as her with a snake for a tail. She screamed and fell backwards and the chameleon exploded into a smoke cloud and was gone.
Twilight began to hyperventilate while still clutching her head in pain. While doing it she felt a weird feeling in her right hand and looked at it. Then the hand straight up transformed into a form of canon. She freaked out even more began to tell herself that this had to be nightmare. A very realistic one. Eventually her hand turned back to normal when she started beating it on a rock in panic. After that the headache disappeared and she began to calm down. Her friends had been watching everything happen from afar and were in shock at what Twilight had just displayed.
"We can't just pretend that this didn't happen. We have to confront her about this." Rainbow Dash whispered.
Twilight limped back to camp out of tiredness of what she had just experienced. On the way her friends walked up to her, but before any questions could be asked Twilight staggered forward and was about to fall, but Rainbow Dash and Applejack reacted quickly and caught her in her fall. Twilight felt the need to vomit, but she managed to stutter a sentence before her lunch came out again.
"I-I'm willing t-to untie my s-secret now." Twilight said as she threw up and then fell unconscious.
They got Twilight into the camp infirmary and let her rest for a while. A few hours later in afternoon Gloriosa came up to the six friends.
"She wants to see you." she said before leading the way to the infirmary.
When they entered Twilight was sitting on the bed holding her head and when she noticed them she made sure to cover her eyes with her hair.
"I'll let you be in peace." Gloriosa said before exiting the room.
"Wow. That is weird." Rainbow Dash said looking at Twilight's eyes with in awe.
"Oh, oh, oh! We should come up with a name for it!" Pinkie said exited.
"I've had this voice in my head repeating one word a few times. The voice says 'Rinne'. Is that a start?"
The girls thought for a while coming up with names. Most of them were awful. For example: 'Circle eye'.
"Oh! I know! How about 'Rinne eye'?" Pinkie said.
The six others nodded in agreement to it as nobody had a better idea.
"Well now that we have covered that. We have to find out what more those can enable you to do. Did that "voice" say anything during your little episode in the forest?" Sunset asked.
"Well when I shot you backwards without making contact it said 'Deva Path', when I made that chameleon appear the voice simply said 'Animal Path' and when my hand turned into that "canon" it said 'Asura Path'." Twilight said nervously.
Before anyone could raise more questions Twilight grunted and grabbed her head in pain. They didn't have any time to react before Twilight grabbed Rainbow Dash, placed her hand on Rainbow's head and both sat there with dead stares. Nothing happened before Applejack touched Twilight's shoulder. When she did, Twilight yelped and let go of Rainbow Dash's head.
"Rainbow Dash. Twilight. Are you alright?" Rarity asked as she helped Rainbow Dash back on her feet.
"What happened?" Applejack asked.
"I don't really know. Twilight touched my head and I was paralyzed. It felt like she could read my mind like a book." Rainbow Dash said as she tried to regain her balance.
Twilight was shaking trying to process what just happened.
"I-I lost control of myself and when I touched her head it was like I could see her thoughts and memories. The voice came back and it said 'Human Path'." Twilight stuttered.
"Well whatever "path" is next. I'm going to stay at a distance until this stops." Rainbow Dash said.
The next day
Twilight had now been brave enough to walk around with one of her rinnegan visible. Though attracting confused looks it made her a little less stressed about having to walk around covering her eyes.
"How are you feeling Twilight?" Adagio asked.
"I'm feeling great." Twilight said sitting up on her bed, but as if in defiance to her the headache returned. 'Another path? Now?' Twilight thought. "You know what nevermind. I need to go outside." Twilight said putting her clothes on quickly and ran out of the tent and towards the forest.
When she came a long way into the forest she stopped and let her headache work it's magic. Just a few moments later the voice returned.
"Naraka Path." it said and just a few seconds after a giant demon like head erupted from the ground and looked at Twilight.
Twilight was petrified and fell onto her back in shock. When she looked back where head was she saw only nature.
"Oh thank God." Twilight sighed in relief, but when she looked behind her she made eye contact with the demon head again.
Twilight screamed as she cowered down in fear of it. She heard a poof, opened her eyes and the demon was gone. Though the voice wasn't done it proceeded to say many different things.
"Shinra Tensei, Black Receiver, Summoning, Asura Attack, King of Hell." it said.
"What does it mean?" Twilight asked herself.
"They are techniques." the voice said in a different tone and before Twilight could say anything she fell unconscious.
Twilight's eyes shot open. She looked around, but saw nothing but a dark purple endless void.
"Where am I?" she asked into the darkness.
"In your head." a voice said as she began to heard footsteps of bear feet.
White floor appeared and gravity pulled Twilight onto it.
"Who are you?" Twilight asked as the footsteps grew louder.
Then a person stepped out of the darkness. His skin was pale. He was wearing a maroon coloured coat and black pants. His hair was red and straight. The hair also covered his right eye. Though a big detail was his visible left eye. It was the same as Twilight's.
"My name is Nagato. Nagato Uzumaki. I have been waiting for this moment Twilight." the man said.
"Why are you here? How are you in my mind? What is it with these eyes?" Twilight asked hyperventilating.
"I just woke up in your mind. I don't know how I got here, but what I do know is that i'm slowly fading away from your mind. A side affect to me being here is that you are inheriting my Rinnegan. I wanted to meet with you so I could teach you how to control it before it's too late." Nagato said.
"But what if I don't want to control it?" Twilight questioned.
"Then all hell will break loose." Nagato answered.
"So what do I have to do?" Twilight asked feeling defeated.
"I'm going to unlock the last two paths first." Nagato said as he clapped his hand together and made eye contact with Twilight.
Twilight felt the headache coming back and she heard Nagato say the name of the paths.
"Preta Path and Outer Path." he said before closing his eyes to break the eye contact.
The headache ended, but nothing felt different for Twilight.
"What now?" Twilight asked confused.
Nagato walked towards her and stretched out his hand.
"Take my hand." he simply said.
Twilight was hesitant at first, but slowly reached out and took a firm grip with Nagato's hand.
"Do you promise to keep this secret? There is no need for others to learn about someone who is already dead." Nagato said returning the firm grip.
"If it's what I've got to do for my friends' safety then I promise." Twilight replied.
"Thank you." Nagato said as his energy was drained and transferred into Twilight.
He lost so much energy that his hair turned white and his body became crippled. When he released the his grip he smiled at her before he dissolved into dust and a non existent wind blew it away.
Twilight's eyes slowly opened as wind blew across her face. Once she fully woke up she realized that she was still in the forest meaning she had been out for a few minutes. She sat up and noticed that she was wearing the same type of robe that Nagato wore. When she stood up a note fell out of the robe. She picked it up and read it.
A gift from a friend.
"Well that's nice of him." Twilight muttered to herself as she began to walk back to camp.
When she came back she put on the hood attached to the robe and made sure nobody saw her face or recognized her. She walked slowly up to her friends who didn't recognize her because of the robe and prepared for her to attack or something.
"Woah there. I'm not here to cause trouble." Twilight said before she took off the hood.
"Twilight? Where did you get that robe?" Sunset asked.
"From a friend." Twilight answered obviously not going to tell who.
"Oh darling, that robe is so simple. I need to decorate it." Rarity said before running to her tent and coming back with a bag. "Hold still now." she said as she pulled out decoration and fabric. Very clearly going to turn it into a dress.
"No i'm fine with how it is." Twilight said pulling her arm away from Rarity's grip.
"Now, now darling i'll be quick. There is nothing to be afraid of." Rarity said.
"And I said no." Twilight said keeping herself at a distance.
"Oh come on Twilight. It won't be so bad." Rarity said trying to close the distance.
"I said no!" Twilight said a little louder and her hand transformed into a cannon that was aimed straight at Rarity who froze in place.
The cannon charged up and Twilight quickly understood that she couldn't stop it from firing so she pointed her arm cannon upwards. A giant blast shot out from the hand cannon and flew upwards. The shot flew at high speed across the sky and eventually blew up. Creating a large explosion in mid-air.
"Sorry about that." Twilight said.
"Did you learn how to do that on purpose?" Rainbow Dash asked.
"With some help." Twilight answered.
"Help from who?" Applejack asked.
"A friend." Twilight said trying to avoid saying his name.
"And who is that?" Sunset asked.
"Sorry, but I made a promise not to talk about him no matter what." Twilight replied.
The main 6 sighed knowing that they wouldn't get the answer they wanted.
"So how good control do you have over these "abilities"?" Sunset asked.
"I don't know. Haven't tested it yet." Twilight simply answered
"Can we see? Please?!" Pinkie asked.
Before Twilight could answer they heard screams and shouting coming from nearby. They rushed over and found that someone with magic plant abilities was attacking the camp and trapping students and the teachers in the cabins and tents by covering them with plants and vines.
"Is that Gloriosa?" Applejack asked.
"Looks more like Gaea Everfree." Pinkie said a little scared, but still with a positive charm to it.
"Whoever it is we got to stop her." Sunset said as she began to run towards the fiend.
Sunset ran with the others not far behind. Sunset was then knocked to the ground by a vine and several more came in her direction, but Twilight came in front of them and raised her palm.
"Almighty push!" she said out loud and a powerful repulsive force formed around her and Sunset like a bubble deflecting all vines coming their way. When it stopped Twilight grabbed Sunset by the arm and ran to find a hiding spot. After a few moments of running and avoiding vines Twilight and Sunset managed to hide behind a boulder where the rest of the main 7 were hiding as well.
"Are ya'll okay?" Applejack asked.
"As okay as it can get at the moment." Twilight answered.
"That's good. I think." Rainbow Dash said.
"What are we going to do?" Fluttershy asked.
The group looked at each other while trying to come up with a plan.
"If some of you could create a diversion I may be able to land a good blow." Twilight eventually answered.
"I volunteer!" Pinkie said.
"Me too." Rainbow Dash added.
"Okay. You two go on her right side then I'll go left." Twilight said. "Go."
"Hey! Ugly! Over here!" Pinkie shouted as she ran out of their hiding spot.
"You can't catch us!" Rainbow Dash further teased while dodging vines.
Twilight ran out back silently and came to a stop. She stretched out her arm and focused her energy.
"Universal-"
"Twilight! Get down!"
*CRUNCH* *SPLAT*
Twilight looked up to where she had been standing to see Sunset standing there with a vine straight through her chest, blood dripping down.
"W-why..?" was all Twilight managed to stutter out.
"B-because I-I lov-" Sunset managed to say before she gasped for air as her body fell limb. She was dead.
The vine retracted and Sunset's body fell to the ground. The main 5 ran towards the two avoiding the brambles as they made their way up to Twilight. Applejack helped Twilight up to her feet and pulled her towards another hiding spot as fast as she could with the rest of them following close behind. Unfortunately for them Gaea was ready for them to go hide and brambles shot at them from every direction.
*STAB* *SPLAT* *CRUNCH*
Twilight had instinctively performed almighty push, sparing her life, but when she looked around all hope and happiness in her was crushed. All of her friends had been stabbed by multiple vines. The world disappeared for Twilight. Her friends had just died and she didn't save them. It was all her fault. All her feelings were replaced by an unbearable pain. The pain of knowing that all your friends died because you didn't do anything, because you were a coward. Twilight shattered mind was to clouded to hear Gaea's maniacal laughter and teasing. Even with her eyes as wide as dinner plates, she could barely see anything. Her pain was too great for her to focus on anything. As she tried to hold onto her sanity Nagato's voice echoed through her mind.
"Show her your pain. Let her feel the pain course through her veins. Unlock your true potential, descendant of the Uzumaki clan."
Then something in her mind snapped. Her vision returned and reality came back to her. She slowly stood up and slowly clapped her hands together before uttering to words:
