A series of stories about Mario attempting to interact with certain things in Equestria and the Equestria Girls universe a la Mythbusters.
Can Mario Spin Jump off of Equestrian spells? Can he run up their cloud walls, let alone stand on their clouds in general? In this story Mario attempts to do things in Equestria that he could perform in the Mushroom Kingdom just to see if he can. More will be added as ideas come to me.
One day in Equestria, I was walking through Ponyville looking for someone when I noticed an orange Pegasus crying on a bench.
"Why are you crying?" I ask concerned as I walk over to the filly and sit down beside her on the bench.
"Who are you?" The orange filly asks me, sniffing.
"My name's Lucky Ness, and I'm new here in Ponyville. I was looking for a friend of mine and was concerned when I saw you crying, Miss . . . " I trail off, inciting her to share her name.
"Scootaloo," Scootaloo replies before slowly extending her hoof.
"Nice to meet you," I say as I shake her hoof. "As I was saying, Scootaloo, I was looking for a friend of mine when I noticed you were crying. May I ask what happened?"
"Ever since my friend Rainbow Dash got accepted into the Wonderbolts, she hasn't been around much to help me learn how to fly." Scootaloo says as she looks up at me.
"Well if I can find my friend, then maybe I can help you with that." I say as I see my friend slowly approaching me in a cloud with eyes on it.
"How do you suppose you're going to do that, Lucky?" Scootaloo asks skeptically. "You're a unicorn. You CAN'T fly."
"I'm not going to be the one to teach you." I say as I point a light blue hoof at the cloud. "My friend will," I say as the cloud descends to the ground and a mustachioed man dressed in red and blue leaps out of the cloud.
"Hey, Mario?" I say as Mario walks over to us. "We're going to have to have a change of plans." I turn to Scootaloo. "This is Scootaloo. We were wondering if you could help her learn to fly?"
"I'll-a give it a try," Mario says to me before turning to Scootaloo. "Hello!" It's-a me, Mario!" The Italian plumber says enthusiastically as he reaches to shake Scootaloo's hoof. "And I'm-a gonna help you learn how to fly." Mario says before walking to the cloud and pulling out several different items, including a hat with wings on it, a pair of wings with armholes in them, a leaf, a feather, and a red star with eyes on it.
"Okay, now you're-a going to try this without any items first," Mario says as he takes off his hat and puts on the hat with the wings on it. "Now you do just like Mario, OK?" Mario says before Triple Jumping and flying into the sky. Scootaloo follows Mario's example and jumps three times, only to fall back to the ground.
Mario lands in front of Scootaloo and removes the Wing Cap, replacing it with his normal hat before walking over and picking up the Red Star and giving it to Scootaloo. "Okay, so now we're-a going to try it with items." Mario says as he pulls another star from the cloud, causing his hat and overalls to turn black and the buttons on his overalls to turn red. "These-a stars allow me to fly when I spin like-a this." Mario quickly spins in a circle and flies into the air before hovering down to float in front of Scootaloo. "Now you-a try."
I watch as Scootaloo slowly stands up on her hind legs and attempts to spin, only to fall over in the middle of her spin without lifting off. I slowly walk over to the two of them, remembering when Mario taught me how to fly with some of those items and the hard time I had at first.
"Hey, Mario? Why don't you try teaching her how to fly with the Cape Feather or the Super Leaf?" I suggest to the mustachioed plumber. "I seem to remember finding those to be the easiest to use when you first started teaching me."
"Great idea, Lucky!" Mario quickly walks over to the cloud and grabs another leaf from it before instructing Scootaloo to touch the leaf he pulled out earlier. As soon as she did, a pair of raccoon ears emerge from her head and her tail turns into a raccoon's tail. "Now, to fly with-a the leaf, you need to run until you've built up enough speed to fly. You'll know when that is because you feel a special sensation in your new tail." Mario gets into a runner's stance. "Let's-a do this one together." Mario says before starting to run with Scootaloo running beside him. The two continue to run until Mario sticks his arms out and jumps, flying into the air by flipping his tail rapidly. "I can feel it, Mario." Scootaloo says before jumping into the air and trying to flip her tail to fly, only to slowly flutter back down to the ground.
"That's-a okay, Scootaloo," Mario says as he slowly flutters to the ground beside her. "Some people find it-a hard to propel themselves with the tail." Mario walks over to the cloud and pulls out a feather. "In that-a case, I-a suggest the feather to them. You don't have to much with it." Mario uses the feather and dons a yellow cape. "Same situation as the leaf," Mario says as Scootaloo touches the feather, getting a crimson red cape similar to her crusader's cape. "Run until the cape doesn't touch the ground, then jump and open it up at the apex of your jump by untying it from around your neck. This will allow the cape to open like a parachute, and by repeatedly aiming towards the ground then back up, you'll be able to gain as much height and distance as you want." Mario says before getting back into a runner's stance alongside Scootaloo as I realize that Mario forgot a major step.
"Uh, Mario?" I ask attempting to get Mario's attention before something terrible happens.
"Yes, Lucky?" Mario asks as Scootaloo starts to run.
"You forgot to tell Scootaloo that you need to hold onto the cape and how to enact the magic that causes the cape to attach itself to her back legs." I say nervously as Scootaloo jumps and soars into the sky and Mario and I see her begin to reach for the knot holding the cape around her neck.
"Mama Mia!" Mario exclaims, realizing what's about to happen as he starts to run and I follow behind him at a quick trot. Mario quickly accelerates before sticking his arms out and jumping into the sky while spinning rapidly as Scootaloo continues to work on the knot. I watch in horror as Scootaloo finishes with the knot and lets go of the cape, which floats up and turns back into a feather, before Scootaloo starts to scream as she plummets towards the ground, crashing into Mario in the process, which causes him to careen out of control and fall as well.
"I have to do something," I think, as I look over and see the Lakitu's Cloud Mario arrived in. I quickly run over to it and hop inside, riding in it towards Mario and Scootaloo as Mario corrects himself and slowly starts to float towards the ground. I get as close as I can to Scootaloo before enveloping her with my telekinesis and bringing her to the cloud before floating to the ground with her in it. Once the cloud is close enough to the ground, I hop out and help Scootaloo out of the cloud with my magic as Mario lands beside us.
"I'm-a so sorry, Scootaloo." Mario says as Scootaloo's feather gracefully lands beside us. "I forgot about how to attach the cape to your hind legs." Mario says as he picks up the feather and puts it in his pocket. "And I'm-a sorry that I couldn't help you to fly," Mario says before turning to go before Scootaloo puts a hoof on his shoulder to stop him.
"Wait, Mario, what about the wings?"
"Wings?" Mario asks before turning back to her and seeing her holding a pair of wings with a hole in each of them. "Oh, Yoshi Wings. I'm not-a sure how well they'll work but you can give them a try." Mario says as he reaches over to pick them up. "Now first-a things first.We're-a going to slide these over your forelegs," Mario says as he slides the wings over Scootaloo's front hooves. "Now from what I understand-a, these wings will function like a normal pair of wings. Try flapping your wings." Mario instructs before Scootaloo slowly flaps her new wings, lifting her into the air a little bit before landing. Elated, Scootaloo flaps her wings some more, this time getting higher into the air before flapping her wings to stay airborne.
"Woohoo!" Scootaloo whoops before performing a little flip in the air and landing beside us. "Thank you guys! These will definitely tide me over until Rainbow can teach me how to fly without them."
"You're-a welcome, Scootaloo. Now, all you have to-a do to remove-a the Yoshi Wings is slide them off." Mario says as he walks over to me and we head into town to find the Princess.

In the bushes, a green unicorn watches as Lucky and Mario travel towards the town.
"Soon," He says before emerging from the bush and sneaking away.
It didn't take us long to find Twilight's castle. As we walked towards the front door, Mario and I recognized the familiar face of one of Mario's doubles standing by the doors, stethoscope in hand. Upon seeing us, Dr. Mario waves and walks towards us, adjusting his red tie in the process.
"Lucky, I've been-a waiting here for about half an hour, and you know I have-a patients to care for in-a the Mushroom Kingdom. Where have you been?"
"Sorry, Doc. We ran into someone on the way here and gave them some assistance." I say as the three of us head over to the door.
"So, who am I-a treating?" Dr. Mario asks as we reach the door and I knock on it.
"Hopefully no one. You're here as a precaution."
"What do you mean I'm-a here as a precaution? If what you are-a planning could potentially hurt someone, why couldn't it-a possibly be healed by the local nurse?"
"When Twilight found out that Mario could protect himself from magic with a cape or a Spin Jump in his home land, she had me ask him if he'd be willing to see if he could do it here. She figured that if a practical application could be applied to it, then she would see if he could teach her how he does it." I begin to explain before turning back to the door and knocking again. "I thought it would be a good idea for you to be here in case Mario got hurt, because you already know how to care for humans, and I'm not sure how long it would take Nurse Redheart to learn to treat him." I say as I knock on the door for the third time.
"That's odd. Twilight, Spike, or one of their friends should have answered the door by now." I say as we hear hoofsteps behind us. The three of us turn around and see a lavender unicorn with a purple mane and tail with a teal streak in it.
"Can I help you?" She asks as she walks forward and opens the door.
"Are-a you Twilight?" Mario asks as we follow her inside.
"I'm her pupil. The name's Starlight." Starlight answers, leading us into the throne room.
"Pleasure to meet you, Starlight." I say as I reach to shake her hoof before pointing to myself. "My name's Lucky Ness, and this is Mario and Dr. Mario." I say as I point towards Mario and Dr. Mario to introduce them. "And Twilight was supposed to be expecting us for Mario's magic experimentation."
"Magic experimentation?" Starlight looks confused before she realizes what it is I'm referring to. "Oh, you mean the thing Twilight's been talking about recently where your friend will attempt to do something regarding Equestrian magic and something that she called a 'Spin Jump'." Starlight sighs. "I'm sorry, Lucky Ness," She begins to say.
"Please, call me Lucky." I say, interrupting her.
"Lucky, I'm sorry, but the princess is in another castle at the moment." She says, which I notice causes Mario to cringe. "Early this morning, she and her friends received a summons from Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. They left for Canterlot immediately afterward." She explains before Mario turns to me.
"What-a are we gonna do now?" Mario asks me.
"I don't know. We'd need a unicorn or alicorn that can perform advanced magic techniques, and most of my magic relates to writing when I'm in Equestria." I say before turning to Starlight. "I'd like to thank you for your time, Starlight." I say as we turn to leave, only to be stopped by Starlight's telekinesis before reaching the door.
"Perhaps I can help," Starlight says as she uses her magic to pull out a scroll, an ink pot, and a quill. "Like Twilight and her other pupil Sunset, I'm fairly skilled in magic myself. I'd be happy to assist you while Twilight's away." I look at Mario, and he nods, accepting Starlight's offer. Starlight smiles before leading us outside. "Now, knowing Twilight, I'm going to need one off you two to take notes for us." Starlight says to me and Dr. Mario.
"I'll do it." I say as I envelop the writing utensils in my magic and levitate them over to me, turning to Dr. Mario. "We'll be needing your full attention in case something happens to Mario." I say to him as I unroll the scroll, unstop the ink well, and dip the quill into the ink with my magic in the blink of an eye as Mario begins to stretch.
"Okay, Starlight. You may-a fire when ready." Mario says before Starlight fires a magical beam at him and I put the quill to the parchment. Mario quickly performs a small spinning hop before landing and bouncing off of the magic unharmed as Starlight performs another magic spell and I record the data. Mario and Starlight proceed to test every substantial spell she knows, with Mario successfully Spin Jumping off every one of them.
"We've got a lot of data confirming that Mario can bounce off of various types of magic with his Spin Jump," I say as I dip the quill into the ink again before applying it to the parchment again as the sun begins to set. "I think we'll only need to test one more spell to see if Mario can reflect it with his cape." I say before Mario nods and produces a yellow cape and Starlight begins to fire another beam of magic. "You may also want to cast a shield spell, Starlight, just in case Mario manages to reflect it directly towards you." I add, before Starlight forms a magical barrier around herself as Mario flips the cape at the magic, sending it back to Starlight, where it fizzled against her barrier.
"I think that's good for tonight," I say as I finish scribbling down some notes regarding the latest test before walking over to Starlight. "If you'll excuse us, we need to get going. It's getting late, and I still have to find a place for the Marios to spend the night at."
"If you want to, you guys can spend the night here in some of the guest rooms." Starlight says as she disables the barrier. "After all, it's the least I can do after doing this for Twilight." She says before turning towards the doors. Dr. Mario and I look over at Mario, who nods, before I look at Starlight.
"We accept." I say before we all head into the castle.

*Later that night*
I was walking along a path in an unfamiliar forest when I began to hear a faint voice calling out for help.
"Hello? Can anyone hear me?" The voice said as I continued on the path, eventually ending up at a worn down castle, that could only be the Castle of the Two Sisters..
"Yes. I can hear you. My name is Lucky Ness." I respond before entering through the main arch and see two tapestries, each one representing one of the two Royal Sisters.
"We have heard about you, Lucky Ness. Twilight told my sister and I about you when you first came through the mirror portal. We are Princess Luna." The voice says as I see Luna moving in one of the two tapestries.
"What can I do to help, your Highness?" I ask, realizing that I'm in a dream.
"This morning, an evil entity overtook my sister and I. He quickly sent a summons to Cadence, Twilight, and her friends in our names. He trapped me in here shortly afterward." Luna said, her voice emanating from the tapestry. "We can only assume that the other Princesses have been trapped as well."
"How can I get you out?" I ask her concerned for her safety.
"There is nothing you can do, Lucky. We are trapped in an unfamiliar portion of the Dream World, and it's taking all our energy to communicate with you right now. But perhaps you're friends can help us. Find your green clothed friend and have his brother come to the Dream World. Even if he can't release us, we'll still be able to provide him with vital information that can help him save us all." Luna's voice starts to get fader. "I'm already running out of time. Find the Man in Green, and remember, beware of Shadestar!" She cries out as her voice fades completely.
"Luna!" I shout as my world fades to black.

"Luna!" I wake with a shout before Mario swiftly runs into my room with a disoriented look on his face.
"Lucky? It's-a two in the morning. What-a happened?" He asks as I slowly sit up and look at Mario.
"We have to find Luigi." I say as I get out of bed and run out of the room to look for Starlight.
"Why do we have to find-a Luigi?" Mario asks me as we see Dr. Mario emerge from his room as we walk past it.
"I got a message from the Princess of the Night. In my dream, she told me that someone is trying to take over Equestria and that she had been trapped in a part of the Dream World she doesn't recognize." I say as we approach the door to Starlight's room with Dr. Mario close behind us. "The only thing I can think of is that she's stuck in Subspace." I say before knocking on the door. It only takes a few moments for Starlight to emerge wearing a nightcap, with a delirious look on her face.
"Guys, it's the middle night. What couldn't possibly wait until morning?" She asks as she rubs at an eye with her hoof.
"I'm sorry, Starlight, I know it's late, but . . . " I start before Mario cuts me off.
"Have you seen Luigi?" Mario asks Starlight before I facehoof.
"Thank you, Mario." I say with annoyance as Starlight looks at us with a confused look. "Luna talked to me in a dream. From what she told me, Equestria may be in danger, and that with the help of Mario's brother, we'll be able to get more information from her." I say as Starlight removes her night cap enters the hallway, closing the door behind her. "We were wondering if you knew where he was. I had asked him to meet us here at the castle."
Starlight stops and turns towards us, pointing a hoof at Mario. "Does he look like your friend there, except only taller? And does he wear green instead of red?" She asks as she turns to look at us.
"Yes, that's him!" I exclaim as Starlight starts to lead us down a series of hallways.
"He arrived a while before you did. The guy got bored, so he offered to clean the castle. I decided to let him, but he started making so much noise that I had no choice but to get out of the castle for a bit and do some errands. That's why I met you two outside the castle earlier." She says as she stops in front of a door. "You'll find your friend in here. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go back to sleep." She says before turning and going back down the hallway while concealing a yawn with her forehoof.
"Now, knowing how well your brother sleeps, Mario, we may need some assistance in waking him up." I say as I open the door and see Luigi sleeping on the bed, with the Poltergust 3000 on the floor at the foot of the bed. "Well, that explains the noise Starlight was talking about." I say as we walk over to Luigi, where Dr. Mario prods his arm to try to wake him up with no result before Mario jumps on him. After seeing the two of them try to wake him up for about a minute without success before getting them stop and trotting over to the Poltergust and picking it up in my magic. "I hope this works," I say to myself as I place the Poltergust beside Luigi's ear and turn it on. Immediately, the device loudly starts to suck up air, startling Luigi awake, who quickly sits up, with his hands in a protective stance.
"Wah! Who's-a there?" Luigi shouts as he looks around and I turn the Poltergust off.
"It's alright, Luigi," Mario says as he walks over and puts his arm on his back to comfort him. "Dr. Mario is here as is Lucky Ness, the pony who invited us here." Mario says, pointing at both of us as Dr. Mario and I walk over to stand in front of Luigi.
"Took you guys long enough," Luigi says as he climbs out of the bed and slips his arms through the straps of the Poltergust. "So, you wanted to see if it was possible to catch ghosts here?"
"About that, Luigi. We're going to have to wait on that. Equestria is in danger, and one of the princesses has been trapped in the Dream World. We need to rescue her and see what she can tell us to help her save the nation." I say as a new orange clad entity with a head the shape of a pillow and a yellow Star Sprite emerges from Mario.
“Then I guess you’ll need our help!” Prince Dreambert and Starlow say simultaneously as they look at Luigi, who nods as he takes the Poltergust off, before turning into a similar looking pillow that Luigi places on the bed. Luigi then proceeds to lay down on the bed, making sure to place his head on the pillow while Starlow floats over beside Luigi’s head. The moment his head hit the pillow, Luigi fell fast asleep as a multihued portal appeared above his head.
"You two go ahead," Dr. Mario says as Mario moves in front of the portal. "I'll hold down the fort here."
"Actually, Doc, it might be a good idea to get a message to Sunset Shimmer in the human world. I have a friend here named Soldering Torch that built a device that can connect to and communicate with the technology there. While the Journal would probably be quicker, his device would be more reliable." I say as I produce a scroll and ink well with my magic as I move into position behind Mario. "Follow the directions on this scroll to find his lab. He'll know what to do when you explain the situation to him." I say as I write them on the scroll before rolling it up and handing it to Dr. Mario in my magic, who takes it and quickly walks out of the room.
"Wait until you're you're ready," I say to Mario after watching Dr. Mario leave. Mario immediately turns to me and nods as I watch him leap into portal to the realm of dreams before quickly following behind him. After swimming through the thick air of the portal, the two of us eventually emerge in a dense forest with a decrepit old castle in front of us. Shortly after arriving, a bright flash of light occurred behind Mario as Dreamy Luigi fades into existence behind him in a green mist.
"So this is-a where you got the message from Luna?" Mario asks as he produces a flask containing a red fluid from his pocket. I nod and Mario throws the potion at the entrance of the castle, causing a red door to appear in its place. The three of us enter the door to find a muted inverted version of the castle interior.
"Now remember, we can only stay in Subspace for a short amount of time before we're returned to Dream World." I say as we group up by the other side of the door. "So we're going to have to find Luna quickly and get back to the door if we want to bring her with us, unless if Mario brought another Magic Potion?" I ask, only to see Mario shake his head in response. "Then we'd better start looking." I say as we start to call Luna's name as we move towards thrones. After a few moments we hear a voice calling back. After following the voice for about a minute, we eventually found Luna in a room encased in a floating chunk of pure nightmare.
"I knew you'd come for me!" Luna exclaims as Mario and Dreamy Luigi head over to the chunk of nightmare and start jumping as a way to strike the chunk with their fists. It only took four jumps to free Luna from her prison, allowing her to gently glide down to the ground.
"Thank you for rescuing me, but we don't have time to rest. Right now we have to save Equestria!" She says as we all follow Mario to the door out of Subspace before she started to explain what happened. "The son of Sombra, Shadestar, attacked us when we were in our chambers. After he incapacitated us, he summoned Cadence, Twilight and her friends in Celestia's name. They didn't stand a chance against him." She say forlornly as we exit the door and returned to the Dream World. "After he defeated the others. He encased me in that stone-like prison and placed me in that unfamiliar part of my domain before I could see where he put the others." She says before we reach the portal, where Mario quickly hops into the multihued entrance as Dreamy Luigi takes his hat off waves goodbye with it.
"Your turn, Princess." I say as Luna and I trot closer to the portal before she unfurls her wings and flies into the portal before I quickly jump into it behind her. After another brief swim through the air, we arrived beside Mario and a sleeping Luigi in what appeared to be a dungeon, much to the confusion of both me and Mario.
"How did we get here?" I asked as Luigi wakes up and starts to stand up. "Shouldn't we be in the castle?" I ask before the four of us hear laughter coming from behind us. We turn around to see Starlight standing in front of a group of ponies consisting of the captive Princesses, Twilight's friends, and another Starlight.
"I'm glad to see that you've returned to the waking world. For a second there, I thought I'd have to follow you into the Dream World." The free Starlight say as her facade starts to fade to reveal a dark grey unicorn stallion with red eyes, a deep red horn, and a black mane and tail, causing Luna to gasp.
"SHADESTAR!" Luna exclaims as Mario and Luigi get into a battle stance.
Can Mario and Luigi Save Equestria? (END OF FIRST ARC!)
"So YOU'RE Shadestar!" I yelled as realization dawned on me.
"Yes. And like the fools you are, you fell into my trap." Shadestar said as he started to approach us. "After I learned from Twilight and her friends that powerful heros were coming to Equestria, I knew I'd have to trick you into getting captured. So I trapped Luna in an alternate dimension in the Dream World, figuring that you'd try to rescue her. Then all I'd have to do was transport the lot of you to the Canterlot dungeons while you were asleep." Shadestar began to smirk. "Even if your Doctor friend returns with help, it'll be too late. Because with everyone who could possibly stop me trapped here, it'll only be a matter of minutes before Equestria is mine!" Shadestar said before a sudden jolt of pain floods his brain as Mario, who had sneaked up on Shadestar as he monologued, swung his hammer, hitting Shadestar in the head.
"You'll NEVER rule Equestria! Because as long as you're in the same vicinity as Mario and Luigi, there WILL be someone to stop you!" I yelled as Mario steps back beside Luigi and resumed his battle stance.
"Very well. If I want to rule Equestria, I guess I'll have to kill you first!" Shadestar shouted as he lept towards the Marios.
"Let's-a go!" Mario shouted as he lept towards Shadestar.
"Okie Dokie!" Luigi shouted as he jumped towards his foe alongside Mario.
"After I'm finished with YOU, Equestria will be mine!" Shadestar shouted before he fired a magic spell at Mario. Mario deftly used his hammer to knock it back at Shadestar to damage him before he produced a Fire Flower and threw it in between him and Luigi. Mario and Luigi then proceeded to take turns rapidly throwing fireballs at Shadestar before twirling around and rapidly throwing them at the same time, at which point, the Fire Flower wore off. Luigi then pulled out a Mega Mushroom and ate it, turning into a giant and producing a giant hammer before Mario hopped up Luigi and onto his brother's hammer. Luigi then proceeded to run at Shadestar and, the moment he was practically on top of Shadestar, swung his hammer, sending Shadestar and Mario flying, allowing Mario to stomp Shadestar into the ground four times, grinding Shadestar into the ground the final time at which point Luigi crouched to the ground and gave a thumbs-up before shrinking back to normal size.
"You two are much stronger than I anticipated, but no one has ever been able defeat me in battle. You two won't be the first!" Shadestar said before he summoned a pitch black star and launched it at Luigi, who adroitly jumped on top of the star, destroying it. Mario then looked at Luigi before the two of them ran away to the side of Shadestar and Mario produced a giant cannonball connected to a chain that Luigi hopped onto the front of it, holding onto it with all his might, as Mario started to spin around with the cannonball before he threw it in a similar manner to an Olympic hammer toss. After he let go of the cannonball, Luigi began to direct the ball towards Shadestar with various nudges before he slammed the cannonball down on Shadestar's head. Luigi and Mario then moved back in front of Shadestar, with Luigi behind Mario, before Luigi smacked Mario with his hammer, which caused Mario to curl into a red and blue ball that Luigi launched at Shadestar with his hammer, causing Mario to bounce off Shadestar and back towards Luigi before being knocked back at Shadestar again by Luigi's hammer over and over again until Luigi accidentally dropped his hammer after the seventh consecutive time.
"You two have done well to survive this long, but this is when I stop playing nice!" Shadestar shouted as he started to charge his magic.
"Mario! Luigi!" Starlow shouted as she emerged from Mario. "You know the drill!" She said before floating in a circle over Mario and Luigi's head. Shortly after the first revolution, Mario jumped and grabbed a hold of Starlow's feet, with Luigi grabbing Mario's legs the next time she and Mario passed over him. As soon as Luigi grabbed a hold of Mario, Starlow floated up to the ceiling as Shadestar unleashed a massive conic shaped blast of magic where Mario and Luigi had previously been standing. Shadestar snorted in rage as Mario let go of Starlow's feet and he and his brother landed on their feet in front of him and Starlow inhabited Mario once again. Mario then proceeded to pull out a red and clear capsule with a Chain Chomp in it and tossed it in front of him, which let the Chain Chomp free before he and Luigi ran away from it with before they turned back around and ran towards Shadestar, taking turns as to which of them was running away from the Chain Chomp as they ran back and forth, jumping off of Shadestar's back each time they passed by him, until Luigi eventually got bitten by the Chomp. After getting re-situated, Mario and Luigi ran to the wall of the dungeon the furthest away from Shadestar, where Luigi produced a small mechanical star, which immediately expanded into a larger one while a series of stars appeared in between the Bros and Shadestar as they hopped onto the giant star and rode it towards Shadestar as they collected the stars along the way before the star flew into the air and and they leaped off of the giant star, Mario going first, then Luigi, surrounded by a ring of stars as they landed on Shadestar, jumping off of him before the stars they had collected flew in to strike Shadestar as well.
"You've done well to dodge my attacks!" Shadestar shouted before he disappeared in a cloud of smoke. After the smoke disappeared a perfect replica of Mario stood in his place. "Now let's-a see how well you can dodge-a your own!" The newly transformed Shadestar yelled before he ran forward and grabbed Mario by the legs before he rapidly spun around and threw him away from him.
"MAMA MIA!" Luigi shouted before he quickly ran after Mario and dived, catching Mario before he hit the ground. After the two returned to stand in front of Shadestar, Mario stood in front of Luigi and reached his arm back as Luigi produced his hammer. Mario then quickly charged up flames before he threw a fireball at Luigi, who knocked it back with his hammer. Mario then proceeded to jump and knock the fireball into the air as it passed by before he threw another fireball. After ten fireballs had been hit into the air, which caused them to combine into one gigantic fireball, Mario jumped onto and off of Luigi before he flung the giant fireball at Shadestar, which exploded on contact. Luigi then produced to pull out a mushroom shaped window with blue shutters that he tossed to the side and jumped through alongside Mario before the window shrank out of existence only to reappear above Shadestar where Mario and Luigi leaped out of it and jumped off of Shadestar before they disappeared and reappeared with the window where Mario jumped out and jumped off of Shadestar. This happened for a while, where either Mario, Luigi, or both brothers jumped on Shadestar from the window, until Mario eventually failed to jump off of his doppelganger.
"How? How could I have-a lost to the two of you?" Shadestar asked before he collapsed to the ground and returned to his original form. "One day, I swear I'll have my revenge!" he shouted before he faded to unconsciousness and became engulfed in an explosion of stars as he faded from existence.
"Oh yeah! Mario number one!" Mario shouted as he spun around before he took his hat off and put most of his weight on one leg with the other foot tilted upwards.
"Yay for me! LUIGI!" Luigi shouted as he struck a pose while pointing upward with his index finger before he ran over with Mario to free the captive ponies.
----Later at Twilight's Castle----
"Mario and Luigi. For defeating Shadestar and saving Equestria, we would like to present you with these badges in honor of your bravery and integrity." Princess Celestia said as she and Luna levitated two badges over and clipped them onto Mario and Luigi's shirts. "With them, you not only receive our eternal gratitude, but the right to visit our fair country whenever you like." Celestia said as she and Luna retreated to allow the Mario Brothers center stage. "To our new heros!" Celesia shouted as the crowd of ponies gathered began to cheer, which caused Luigi to blush with pride.
The celebration lasted for half an hour, and only ended when the yellow-orange unicorn with fiery hair emerged from the mirror that Dr. Mario stood beside.
"I heard that Twilight and Celestia had been captured, and that a Doctor would fill me in on the details when . . . I . . . got . . . here." Sunset said, her voice dropping off after she noticed the two previously mentioned Alicorns and the rest of the party guests in the castle. "What happened while I was on my way here?" Sunset asked Twilight as she lead her to a table to discuss what happened.
