Rainbow dash is in love with twilight. One day she decides to confess her love. Will her heart be broken, or will their friendship be kicked into overdrive?
It's a cute tale, with heartbreak and confusion. Had fun making it.
Rainbow dash flapped her wings and flew off the porch of her clouden home. Grunting with the weight of her saddlebag, she aimed torwards a giant treehouse in the middle of ponyville.
She had been visiting Twilight sparkle a lot these days. Every day she felt even stronger feelings for the lavender unicorn, and they welled up inside of her. She decided that today would be the day she would confess her love to her.
Almost there.
Just a littel further.
Come on.
There.
She landed neatly infront of the house, shaking the water out of her wings. Sometimes water got in because of all the clouds flying around. Anyway. She knocked politely on the treehouse door.
On the fifth knock, twilight answered. When she saw it was dash, she smiled.
The pegasus couldnt help but smile back. Her heart welled. Twilight was beautiful. Her pink and purple mane, the way her eyes gleamed and sparkled. Even her magical cutie mark, with its five white stars and-.
“Rainbow??? Hello?” Twilight called.
Dashie snapped out of it.
“Oh um sorry, my head just strated.. um... hurting..” She lied badly. “I.. um brought you a gift. Actually, two gifts.”
She opened her saddlebag with her wing to reveal a box of cookies. They were heart shaped with pink frosting and blue sprinkles.
The box was surrounded by a pink aurora and it flew over to twilight. She grinned.
“Thanks so much dashie! I love these cookies. Wanna come in and eat them with me? Wow. That sounded wierd. Ha ha.” She turned and walked into her house, beckoning Rainbow to follow her. The cookies followed too.
Inside, the pegasus felt really hot. She started sweating. Twilight sat on a couch and rainbow sat next to her. She ate a cookie that twilight offered her, not bothering to taste the nice sweetness.
After a while of eating cookies and sweating on rainbow's side, Twilight broke the silence.
“So, I hope I dont sound greedy, but... do you mind giving me the other gift?” She grinned sheepishly.
Rainbow nodded. She opened her mouth but no sound came out.
“Oh, need some water? Be back in a jiffy.” Twilight got up and raced to the kitchen.
Dash felt like a waterfall. She ran her hoof through her sweaty mane and stuffed a cookie in her mouth. When twilight got back, she sat a glass of water infront of her friend, the magical glow fading from it.
Rainbow chewed slowly and swallowed. She drank the glass of water. Twilight waited anxiously next to her grinning.
Rainbow cleared her throat.
“Well, what I wanted to say is. Well, actually I've wanted to say this for quite a while now, but...”
“Rainbow dash, what?”
The pegasus couldnt help it anymore. She leaned in and brought her muzzle to twilight's and kissed her. It was soft and sweet and lasted a couple of seconds. When it was over, dash pulled away as her face flamed red.
“Twilight, im in love with you.” She looked down.
Twilight blinked, caught off guard.She blushed and looked down too.
Rainbow once again gathered her courage that was strewn across the floor.
“I've been in love with you sonce the day we met and I made your hair all funny. Every day after that, my feelings for you got stronger. Eventually, I just couldnt take it anymore.”
Twilight was quiet. She stared at the heart shaped cookies. She lifted the lid of the tin and put it back onto the box.
“Dashie. I just.. dont have feelings for you in that sort of way... im.. sorry." She frowned and lifted the box with her hooves. She put it on Rainbow's lap and walked to her bedroom.
For a while Dash just sat there, looking at the box. Then she noticed that a small drop of water fell from her face onto it.
Rainbow dash lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling. The box of heart-shaped cookies was on the floor next to The bed. Her cheeks were wet with tears again as she rememberd what happpened.
After she realized she was crying, she walked out the door with her tail inbetween her legs. She flew home, tears still dripping from her cheeks and here she was now.
Back in the treehouse, Twilight lay in her bed, still dazed from the magical kiss she shared with Rainbow. She had no idea that the pegasus liked her.
At the moment, she was kicking herself for not saing it a little nicer. It was the first time she had ever seen Rainbow Dash cry.
I should have known.
The way she was nervous, the heart-shaped cookies, the hesitation of speaking.
Twilight just tried not to think about it and go to sleep.
Dash, on the other hand was sleeping soundly, her cheeks still a little damp. She had no dreams.
In the morning, She looked at her calendar.
April 22 – helping pinke pie and twilight make cupcakes for AJ.
Shoot. She would have to face Her crush again. For a while, she though about skipping it, but then decided she wouldnt break pinkie's heart like that. Even baking cupcakes meant a lot to pinkie, and Rainbow would not miss Applejack's birthday. AJ was like her sister.
So she grabbed her pink and white scarf and flew out to sugarcube corner. When she got there, pinkie and Twilight were there.
For a second, Rainbow and Twilight sprakle met eyes. Their gaze held. But then the pegasus had to look away and blush. Looking down she greeted pinkie pie and walked in the door.
Twilight lookes suprised, like she saw something wierd. She was looking at Rainbow's neck.
With a pang, The pegasus realized that this was the scarf that she got as a present... from... twilight.
Oh no, what is she gonna think now?
Twilight decided to just be happy that her 'friend' was using her gift. She grinned.
Rainbow was flummoxed.
“What is first on the list, pinkie?” Twilight asked.
Even the sound of her voice was painfull to The pegasus. As she went and got the three cups of flour, she dipped her head so that her nose was alost touching the ground.
The whole time rainbow was in pain. It stabbed her chest, gently ripping her heart into half.
The whole time Twilight just looked at her friend.
The cupcakes were in the oven, baking merrily away. The three friends were sitting in chairs, waiting. Pinkie decided that this was the time to ask.
“So.” She said. “I noticed that you two are in a... fight?”
“Pinkie.” Twilight murmered.
Rainbow flamed bright red with emberassment.
“Rainbow dash was just wondering If I... wanted to run a race with her.” Twilight hesitatingly said.
Rainbow nodded and went along.
“A really big one. With... jumps...” She agreed.
“And I said no, because I was already running one with someone.” Twilight finished.
Her heart stuttered. Her breath stopped. Her wings stopped fanning herself.
Rainbow looked at twilight, who was staring at the ground with an expressionless face.
Already running a race? With who? Did that mean...
Rainbow couldnt stand it.
“Pinkie.. I have to go.” She murmured. She was crying again.
Come on dashie, your such a crybaby.
But she couldnt help it. She flew out the window.
Twilight sighed. At least she had told her.
“Oh, my. I guess dashie was really sad you couldnt... run the race with her.” The two ponies in the room knew that it wasnt a race. But pinkie was a kind pony. She left it at that.
Rainbow flew back home to cry on her already tear-stained pillow. She threw the box of cookies out of her window.
Twilight already has a special somepony??? How come I have no idea? Is it a mare? Is it a stallion? I am soooo emberassed.
She would have to go to the party. She would go there, give Aj a present and tehn leave. Yeah. Thats what would happen.
Rainbow resorted to wrapping Aj's gift. She concentrated on not getting any tears on the decorated paper. She didint do very well.
Back at sugarcube corner, The oven dingged.
“Done!” Pinkie announced. “You can go ahead to the party. Ill take them out and ice them.”
Twilight nodded. She trotted out the door to the place where Aj's party was. There was no one there exept Rainbow Dash. She had come early.
They stood in silence for a while, nopony still arived.
“So.” Dash broke the silence. “Who's in the race with you?” She mumbled like she didint care.
“Are you sure you wa-”
“Of course I want to know. Your the... the love of my life. I really want to know.”
Twilight took a breath in.
“Pinkie pie.” She whispered.
“Pinkie pie?” Rainbow practiacally screamed. She set her gift down. “Pinkie pie? Youre in love with her? I BET SHE CANT EVEN COUNT TO TEN!”
Rainbow was furious. Pinkie pie?
“Your sepnding your life with HER? All she does is make cupcakes... and muffins! I bet she dosent even love you.”
Rainbow heard a sniffle. It didint come from twilight. Out of the shadow stepped pinkie. Her eyes were redder than usual. She had been crying.
Twilight ran to pinkie.
“Oh my gosh are you okay?” She kissed away the tears on pinkie's face. Pinkie sniffed, the smiled and looked up.
“Um.. yeah. Will you help me wash up? I dont want to look like this for AJ's party.” Pinkie asked twilight.
“Dont worry, Aj's party wont mind how you look.” Twilight giggled and walked with her to the bathroom.
Rainbow was watching the whole time, speechless. She didint even know how to feel. Millions of things were swirling inside of her.
Pinkie pie? How could she? Oh, wait I yelled at her. Im sorry. Wait, no im not. She took my sould mate! What do I do? I feel like apologizing a million times, and killing her.
She slowly backed away. The turned and bolted out the door.
For a few days, She did nothing. She didint eat or sleep. Her heart was broken. From hurting somepony and from being hurted.
She just sat there for a very long time. It was painful, having the whole heartbreaking scene played again and again in her head.
The fourth day, she felt her stomack clawing at itself. It rumbled endlessly.
Looks like the inner dash needs to be fed.
She stumbled out of bed, on her hooves for the first time in days. She feasted on carrots and oak leaves. They did taste good, she had to admit. Eventually, she was full. She decided to go for a fly to stretck her wings.
She flew to a far end of ponyville, flying quickly in case Twilight would see her. She rested under a tree.
She almost fell asleep when she heard hooves approaching. She quickly shot up into the tree. Believe it or not, It was Twilight and pinkie pie. Dash's heart wrenched, but she stayed in the tree.
“Look, thats a nice tree. Can we rest under it for a little bit?” pinkie asked.
Twilight nodded and sat under it. Dash watched, holding her breath.
Pinkie grinned and sat next to her.
And then they kissed. It was long. Rainbow dash wastched in silent misery.
“I love you so much. And im sorry about rainbow dash. She'll get over it.” Pinkie said.
Rainbow felt like screaming. She felt like hurling the apples from the tree at pinkie pies head.
But she just sat there, frozen.
“Im hoping that shes okay. Im just so worried about her. And... I think she really does love me. She was very sincere that day.”
Twilight rested her head against the pink pony's shoulder. She sighed a happy sigh.
“The party was very good, pinkie. AJ was so happy I bet.”
“Thanks, Twi.”
They sat there in silence again. Suddendly, pinkie reached out and licked the pink part of twilight's mane.
Twilight blushed. She kissed the pink pony's cheek tenderly.
Twilight hugged her and they kissed more and more.
Rainbow dash was beggingint to wonder weather it had been a good idea to stay in the tree. She could not have seen this. That should have been her, under the tree, hugging twilight.
And then, a drop of water fell on Twilight's shoulder. And then another.
“Hey, pinkie. Are you crying?” Twilight asked, confuzed.
Pinkie shook her head
Rainbow realized that the tears were comming from her, and she shot off home.
Twilight heard the rustle of leaves and looked at the tree. A single blue feather that pinkie did not see slowly floated down from the branches onto Twilight's nose.
The next day, Rainbow returned to the tree. Not to spy, but to just be there.
She was resting there, humming to herself a sad song when Pinkie pie trotted up. She waved.
“Hey rainbow dash, I was supposed to meet Twilight here today, but I have some really important things to do at sugarcube corner. When she gets here, can you tell her that I cam but im really really really sorry? Thanks dashie!” She galloped away.
There was no way Rainbow was gonna tell that to twilight.
Or maybe, should I? I mean, she still is my friend. She just.. took the love of my life away from me, thats all. She still likes me I think. Cause she didint see me in the tree.
She was still thinking nice and nasty thoughts when twilight trotted up.
“Hey, umm... Rainbow. Is pinkie here? Um.. has she been here? Im a little late...”
“No, pinkie's not here and she didint come here. What's it to you?”
Twilight walked up to her friend. She took rainbows face in her hooves.
“Look, im really sorry. I mean it. I know that you prob-”
Rainbow closed the small gap between their faces and kissed her. Twilight tried to pull away, but Rainbow held on. She kissed her passionatly with every last ounce of her heart. And Twilight kissed back. Their lips mingled and danced. It was a magical moment.
Then Rainbow pulled away slowly, looking into Twilights eyes. They were... happy?
Rainbow blushed. Twilight smiled and then a look of anxiousness crossed her face.
Pinkie was there behind them, holding a box of The same heart shaped cookies rainbow dash had once bought.
One look on pinkie's face told them she had seen it all. Pinkie's face welled up and-
“WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAAAAA” Pinkie hollered. She burst into tears, throwing the box onto the floor and galloping away.
“Look what you did now?” Twilight yelled.
“Its my fault?” Rainbow asked.
“You kissed me!” Twilight siad.
“you kissed me back!”
Twilight frowned and ran after pinkie.
Rainbow looked at the ground for a while.
“Well played, dashie.” She said sarcastically.
Chapter five - An honest friend gives good advice.
She was confuzed. She didint know what to do. Pinkie pie, Twilight and her probably werent even friends anymore. Should she try to fix that?
She thought about it, trotting over to under an apple tree nearby.
How could she do it? Maybe she would go over to Twilights and knock on the door... Nah, she'd prbably just get a hoof in the face. She could ask pinkie pie if she could bake a cake with her, and then while the oven was cooking it, she would ask...
“Rainbow dash. Are y'all tryin' na steal mah apples?” Came a voice.
Rainbow dash didint hear it, still deep in thought.
Appljack approached, about to tell her pegasus friend off for stealing her month's harvest, but then she noticed her troubled expression.
Rainbow Dash knew the orange pony was there, but she kept thinking.
“Is everythin' alright, Rainbow?” She asked and sat down next to her.
The pegasus found it hard to lie to her honest friend. She couldnt look her in the eye and tell her something that was'nt true.
“No.”
“Did somethin' happen?” She pressed.
“Yeah.”
“Would ya care da tell me?”
Rainbow sighed.
“Lets say you have this mare. And she's interested in colt number one. But theres another colt, colt number two. He's interested in the same mare, perhaps even more than colt number one is. But the mare thinks of him just as a friend. Colt number two somehow managed to spread the mare and the other colt apart. Now theyre all enemies. What should colt number two do?”
Aj tapped her chin with her hoof.
“Ah say that colt number one has to pony it up and go for it. If he can manage to get the mare and colt number one together, he should say that he's deeply sorry and that he didint mean for what happened to be. Then he should confess his love. If it is true and pure, then the rest will jus fall into place.”
Rainbow nodded. She grinned and said a quick 'bye' to AJ. Then she galloped off, deep in thought.
“Rainbow, you got yourself in quite a sticky situation there with Pinkie and Twilight.” Applejack thought, walking over to the north field of apples.
Rainbow went back home, to her clouden house. She did not go to sleep, but she wrote a letter to two friends.
Dear Pinkie Pie,
We need you to come with us on a very important talk at the spa tommorow when the sun is at its highest. Meet us there in the lobby at that time. It is something very important about our next biggest treat. So please come.

Dear Twilight sparkle,
You won a raffle contest and your prize it a free day at the spa! Relaxing and beautiful, this is something you cannot miss. Come and collect your prize when the sun is at its highest tommorow.
The spa ponies.
Hopefully rainbow and pinkie would already be there when she came.
She stalked out her door, the moon full at her back. Then she put both letters infront of the two friends houses.
Then she went home to get some rest.
For a while she could not sleep, but then unconsiousness tugged at her senses, pulling her eyes shut and making her breathing calm.
When morning arrived, rainbow was strangely energetic. She had prepared a speech last night and then forgotten it, but she still knew what she had to say. She arrived at the spa a few minutes before her two friends were to arrive.
A pink pony with a ble mane was there at the register.
“Hey, can you do me a favour?” Rainbow asked her. The spa pony nodded.
Rainbow whispered her plan into the pink pony's ear. She smiled and nodded. “Of course, of course!” She said.
Rainbow was led away to a massaging mat that was behind a sheet of bamboo.
That very second, pinkie pie rushed in.
“Im here to see the cakes!” She said to the spa pony.
“Yes, of couse, they just wanted to spa first, then they said they would talk with you.”
“Umm.. okie dokie!”
“Right this way!”
Pinkie was led next to rainbow dash (but of couse, she didint know that.) And was put on the same sort of mat behind another bamboo wall.
On her way back to the register, the pink spa pony told rianbow that one of her friends had come.
“Perfect.” rainbow concluded.
She heard the door of the spa open and close.
“Hello, im here cause I won a... prize?”
The pink spa pony flashed her pretty white teeth, claming the lavender unicorn.
“You most ceirtandly did! Right this way, miss sparkle.”
So Twilight was on the right side of rainbow, and pinkie was on the left. They got massaged for a about ten minutes.
“Sauna time!” A blue pony with pink hair announced.
The three ponies who were being massaged came out.
Twilight ghasped.
Pinkie let out a 'woah!'
Rainbow dash pretended to be suprised.
They three ponies were silent as they were ushered to a private spa room. Once the three of them were all alone, Rainbow dash spoke up.
“Listen, pinkie the cakes arent here. Twilight, you didint win a prize. I got you both here today because I wanted to say something. Twilight, The day you cam to the tree and I was there, pinkie had come first, and told me to tell you that she did. I decided not to, and I am very sorry for that. Pinkie, the kiss I shared with twilight was incidental. I knew that you were with her at that time, and I shouldnt have done it. All I want is to be friends with both of you again, and for you two to not hate each other any more. I am very sorry again to both of you.”
After her speech, rainbow sat down and looked at the wooden ground.
Twilight swallowed.
Pinkie took another breath.
The silence was deafening.
Rainbow could hear the boiling water that was making the steam, two ponies outside that were chatting about the newest herb Zecora had descovered.
Suprisingly enough, it was the pink pony who was the first to speak.
“I... I guess I know that you two are very sorry for the kiss I saw. And so I forgive you.”
“And I forgive you, Rainbow, for starting that kiss.” Twilight said. Then she shifted to pinkie pie.
“Pinkie, I know we were together for a while, and that you enjoyed our time together. And I did too, I just think that... It didint work too well. I think that what im trying to say is.. Im breaking up with you...” Twilight concluded.
Twilight and Rainbow both held their breath.
To everyone's shock, pinkie did not scream or cry. She just leaned over and gave twilight a huge hug.
“Best friends?” Pinie asked.
“Best friends.” Twilight confirmed.
Rainbow walked over to the two hugging ponies.
“So, we all forgave each other, and were all friends?” Rainbow asked.
“Nope.” Pinkie and Twilight answered at the same time.
“We're all best friends.” Pinkie giggles and smiled.
And the three best friends hugged for what seemed like an hour, untill the spa ponies came and ushered them out.
A few months later, three friends were making cupcakes very merrily.
Although it hurt her, Rainbow had never forgotten about her crush on Twilight. As far as she knew, that week was just a dream.
Pinkie pie Had'nt gotten back together with Twilight. They were best friends, and they kept it at that.
Twilight was oblivious to how Rainbow still loved her more than a friend. She was still best friends with both of them.
“I think that this is the best batter I ever saw!!” Pinkie exclaimed.
“Then put it in the oven, because I need to go to the bathroom.” Twilight said. She walked out of the room.
Pinkie put the cupcaked in the oven and closed it.
“Hey rainbow, did you know that Twilight still has a crush on you?” Pinkie merrily said.
“What? No! I didint!”
“Well one afternoon, I went to her house and walked in. She was on her bed, sleeping. I was about to leave when she started talking. She said 'rainbow dash, do you really love me?' And then she paused and said 'me too!'” Pinkie said.
“No!”
“Yes! She did!”
“And so, you think I should..”
“Get back together with her! I think it would make her very happy!” Pinkie said.
“And you wold'nt be mad at me? I could really do it?” Rainbow asked.
