Luna flew through the misty landscape, avoiding the small globes representing the dreams of the ponies she was tasked with protecting. From time to time, she glanced into the dreams contained inside the orbs. A field of apple trees, a field with flowers and...Luna quickly made an abrupt turn to the left to avoid a orb filled with balloons and cities made of candy. She had entered those dreams once. It was a horrid mistake she would not do again. As a result of the abrupt turn, she flew straight into somepony else's dream.

Looking around, Luna tried to identify who's dream she had entered. After walking around for a while, she saw a familiar purple unicorn laying on a blanket, snuggling...Luna?

Luna was shocked. Why was Twilight dreaming that she was snuggling her? It didn’t really make sense when compared to anything Luna knew about the young unicorn. She was obsessed with studying when not hanging out with her friends. She never seemed like a mare that would be interested in dating at all, much less a mare. For every minute that went by with Luna thinking about what she was seeing, the more panicked she got. She needed to get out of this dream and forget. Now. Turning around, she galloped on until she passed through the wall between the dream of Twilight and the realm containing the dreams of all of the ponies living in Equestria. She continued through the realm until she passed through yet another wall and woke up.

Laying in her bed, sweating, she decided that whatever she had seen it that dream, she'd do everything in her power to forget. That never happened.

The following days didn’t go quite according to plans, however. Luna tried to do her best in avoiding the dreamsphere for three whole nights now, causing only more trouble. The Princess could feel the ponies struggling with their nightmares, just because she decided to avoid it and the only reason for her neglecting her duties was the dream of a single pony: Twilight Sparkle.
But what to do? Luna certainly couldn't date anypony, much less the mare that was her own sister’s protege! She wasn't ready. She didn't know if she'd ever be ready for something like that, most of her previous experiences with romance were millennia in the past. Not to even mention what her sister or the nobles would say about such a behaviour. It wouldn’t ever fit a Princess, Luna was quite sure about that, so she just would have to forget the dream and keep shut about it. Yes. That would do. Pretending it never happened was the easiest, best way of dealing with it.

Then, sadly, her Night-court was up and she soon realized that ignoring everything wouldn’t help her, and that she would have to visit the dreamsphere again. Soon. Sitting on a small throne, much smaller than her sisters, she waited for the first pony bringing up it’s needs. It wasn’t a long wait until the first pony stood before her, a blue pegasus mare who bowed upon entering the room. She explained how she worked at an orphanage, and the foals had been having terrible nightmares the last weeks. She was wondering if there was anything that the Princess of the Night could do to help the foals sleep, considering that it was part of her royal duties. After all, they were just small foals. Why should they have to suffer from terrifying dreams every night? Some of the foals had even started to refuse to go to bed because they were afraid of the nightmares awaiting once they fall asleep.

The Princess started to worry about her own state, unable to convince herself to visit the dreamsphere again, and now even the smallest of her subjects were coming to suffer from her neglect. This wasn’t how she planned it, and she had to do something about it! Promising the mare that she would take care about those nightmares, she promised at the same time to herself that she would visit the dreamsphere again that night.

It was a bit later and Luna laid in her room, door locked and a sound-proofing spell around the walls. She prepared everything to remain undisturbed, as she always tried while in the dreamsphere. If somepony disturbed her while working on somepony’s dreams, it could turn out quite worse. She layed down on her side on the bed, starting to reach out with her magic and closing her eyes. Soon she found herself in her own dream, just in front of the wall to the dreamsphere. It shimmered familiar at her, but she still hesitated. Was this really such a good Idea? Maybe not, but she would just have to avoid Twilight’s dream as long as possible. Yes, that sounded just right. With a confident smile on her muzzle, Luna walked through the wall and into the dreamsphere…

Luna spent the next three hours saving most dreamers from their nightmares, causing them happy and sweet dreams. Once she was done with her duty, she continued watching over some dreams, pacing around the sphere. Soon, six globes came to her sight, each one she knew well, especially a big, purple one with a star on it. Luna turned immediately, trying to fly away from it as fast as possible, but to no use. The dreamglobe was following her and coming closer, something she never experienced before. Soon it caught her, causing her to fall into the dream and landing with a loud ‘thump’ on a hard, wooden floor.

Groaning and with plenty of pain in her forehead, Luna stood up, examining her surroundings. It was Twilight’s bedroom in the top of her Library. Something was wrong here and Luna soon caught it; a form struggling under the blanket on the bed, electing some giggles from the shapes from time to time. She was just about to leave the dream as the blanket shifted a bit and Luna caught sight of two ponies, nuzzling and kissing each other. Her jaw fell open. One pony was Twilight Sparkle, the pony deeply buried with her muzzle in the fur of the unicorn’s neck was Luna herself… Her heart jumped a bit, but Luna ignored it. With a scream on her lips she fled the globe, quickly racing through the dreamsphere and landing in her own bed after mere seconds. The scream still on her lips, she woke up, only to find a white alicorn sitting on the side of her bed, staring worried at her. It was her sister Celestia…

Chapter one: Trying to escape from it

View Online

We thought it would be a nice and calm night, but fate had to play us for fools. After our Night court, our sister wanted to see us, claiming it would be important. So we made our way to her personal chamber, knocking and going in.

She sat by her desk, curiously sweeping through some letters before recognizing us.

“Oh, Lulu! Good, you are here. I wanted to talk to you about something important,” she said, standing up and hugging us while nuzzling affectionately at our neck.

We returned the gesture and turned our gaze to her, “Talking to us, dear sister? What is so important that thee are staying awake in the night?”

“Lulu, I know that there is something wrong. You keep pacing around and acting nervous. Also, every time I ask you to accompany me towards Ponyville you quickly decline. Not to mention that time you were screaming as you were in your dreamsphere, and you refused to tell me anything. You really have to tell me what makes you suffer, little sister,” her smile was warm and honest, but we just couldn’t tell her, no matter how much it hurt us.

“There is nothing to be afraid of, ‘Tia, we are feeling quite well,” we replied, trying to stay at a serious expression, but most likely failing miserably.

“Please don’t lie to me, Lulu! I saw how you looked at Twilight during her coronation, so what is it that chases you, little sister?” she gently wrapped a wing around us, trying to comfort us.

“There is something in our mind about her, ‘Tia, but it is something that you don’t have to worry about. Might we ask now what is so important?”

Our sister looked disappointed at first, but quickly released that expression, “Yes, you might. We will await some delegates from Saddle Arabia next week, and Twilight will come here to support us in the royal duties,” Celestia said, smiling, “I can’t wait to see her again, she’s growing up quite fast.”

Our mind stuttered. This was horrible news! How could we avoid her if she comes to Canterlot, being around us all the time.

We guess this will not end well.

"I really hope those things in your mind won’t affect your relationship to Twilight, we are all equals now. That was all, little sister. I will head to bed now. Good night!” With that and a last hug she went into her bed, we retreated outside as the door closed behind us.

This will not be any fun for us...

How were we supposed to not let this affect our relationship to Twilight Sparkle? It was impossible. But if we kept acting strange, then ‘Tia would question us even more, and it was important that she stayed oblivious to this.

------

We felt panic rising inside us. We needed to keep Twilight so busy that it'd be easy for us to avoid her. We just spent the last three hours arranging a special star occurrence that should keep her busy most of the night. Yet it felt like it wasn't enough. Still trying to gather our composure, we walked out the door and over to our sister waiting in the end of the hallway. Any minute now, Twilight would come up this hallway, then Celestia and us would have to greet her in friendly matter. Friendly...no, Luna, don't go into that!

We were sitting with our sister in the courtroom, accepting the askings from the last ponies today. Usually we would have our own court at night, but today was planned with Twilight Sparkle, a fact we tried to avoid deeply. Time went by quickly and soon a guard announced Princess Twilight Sparkle before the door opened, revealing a seemly happy and beautiful princess.

Wait, what are we thinking?

Twilight walked forward and bowed in front of us, just to frown as our sister let off a giggle.

“Twilight Sparkle, you don’t have to do that anymore,” she said, nuzzling Twilight’s back before pulling her up.

It was the next moment, were the eyes of the purple mare met ours, causing us to avoid a heavenly blush. Something was obviously messing with our head.

Why would she make us blush?

To our relief, we avoided it successfully and gave her a cold nod back, which sadly caused her to back away slightly.

“Princess Luna? I-is there something wrong? Did I something wrong? Are you mad with me? I’m sure, if you tell me I…” Twilight was sputtering with words like always before.

She is always like that and we like it somehow.. Wait, no, this is bad! We have to avoid this!

"N-no, of course not Twilight. Why would we be angry with you?"

Except for that you dream about us at night… wait… we are not mad, but we have to… forgive us dear sister

Sighing, we try to approach it a different way.

“We just don’t like how the recent actions are taking upon our future,” we said, turning back and going to our chamber, just to be stopped by our sister.

“Lulu stay here, we should talk about it,” she said, lowering her head slightly.

Twilight, however, must have thought that this situation was about to end badly, so she quickly nuzzled our sister, sighing.

“I may think I know what is up with your sister, Princess. I’ve seen a perfect opportunity on the tower nearby, which I want to research up.”

"Twilight, I told you we are equals now, so please don’t call me princess anymore. What opportunity do you mean?” our sister giggled a bit, a sound she only made in private, never in public.

“I think I might have seen a prepared stargazing point on the nearby tower. I will investigate it and join you later,” with that Twilight walked away, leaving our sister chuckling and us confused.

“Looks like someponies will never change, not even after a coronation.”

What? Oh she does speak to us. We are no longer upon Twilight for some time, Huzzah!

“Uh.. oh yes, you are right, dear sister. She is indeed an interesting pony,” we said, quickly trying to gather our mind.

“Not a pony anymore, Lulu,” and with that she left us, walking down the hall before disappearing.

'Tia was right. Twilight is now an alicorn. An equal.

We stood there for a minute, thinking of what our sister possibly could have meant by this. It wasn’t obvious, so we decided to go to our chamber and wait for the delegates to arrive. Our way included a small path near the tower we prepared for Twilight, so we hurried, trying to avoid any noise. Sadly, we weren’t quite successful with that.

“Princess Luna! You have to see this! Somepony prepared a whole tower for stargazing, but it seems like they abandoned it. This is so exciting, it is arranged precisely! Just as if somepony knew precisely that I would find it! You really have to…” Twilight tried to continue, but we couldn’t do much but to let a groan escape our throat, causing her to jump up.

“We are very sorry Twilight Sparkle, but we are too tired and wish to go to our chambers now. Have a wonderful night,” we said, still not, but almost, using our Canterlot voice as her ears flattened themselves down.

We moved along quickly, leaving Twilight in shock behind us.

Seriously? We do not think we are making this better in any state. There is a possibility that we went to far, and then our sister will know it…

Our mind still rumbling, we reached the corridor to our quarters, two of our guards standing in it, watching. Trying to pass them as quickly as we could, we nearly tripped, just barely holding on our hooves.

Twilight is driving us insane

“Oh buck it!” we shout out, causing the guards to jump and eye us in surprise.

This does not suit us. We have to keep to ourselves!

We picked up the pace and rushed into our room, closing the doors and adding various spells to it to keep everypony, even our sister, out. Sadly, we forgot the obvious again, and as soon as we laid down on our bed we heard the ruffling of some feathers.

“Princess Luna!”

Oh no, the balcony! Oh no... she only talks to us like this if she disapproves our behaviour.

Our sister was standing on the balcony, not angry, but still a serious expression on her face.

“Yes, ‘Tia?” we replied.

“I tried to talk to you as family, but you leave me no choice but to continue this talk as the elder and also former teacher of Twilight. I will ask you one last time, Luna. What is wrong with you and why are you acting like this to Twilight?” our sister’s voice sounded strong, filled with the authority she used with her subjects.

She knows that we always hated when she did that. It used to scare us as a foal. It still did.

Realising we can no longer keep up this game , we sighed and prepared ourselves for telling our sister a part of the truth. We'd just let her hear what she needed to hear and then it'd be over.

“We… we might be a bit jealous, dear sister”

Celestia's anger fled away, leaving a confused look, “You are what?”

“We are jealous. It has been always just you and us. We do not approve of this new situation, but Twilight… is a good friend. She rescued us and banished our hatred. On Nightmare Night she helped us make friends with everypony in Ponyville. She has her heart in the right place and does not deserve our actions,” we said, mentally wincing upon this lie.

We are making this worse. Oh what shall we do now?

"Lulu, you know you can talk about everything with me. Please try to stay friendly and open to Twilight, she only wants to help you and be your friend," our sister responded, unclear if she saw through the lie or not.

It’s not a friend, she sees in us…

“We will try it, dear sister.”

“Is there something else you would like to talk about Lulu?” she asked us, an eyebrow risen.

“We don’t think so, but we will inform you immediately if this circumstance changes,” we tried with a smile and she nodded, leaving over the balcony.

This will become even more difficult now with our sister watching over us…

Sighing, we layed down on our bed, making ourselves comfortable as a sudden knock on the door startled us up again.

We do not want any visitors right now! Guards! Send the disturbance away this instant!” we shouted towards the door, using our Royal Canterlot Voice.

After some short moments, another knock broke the silence and we lost our patience. Jumping off the bed, we unfurled our wings and flew the few steps to the door, breaking our magic seal and practically ripping the door open.

“What is wrong here?” we demanded, looking into the face of a seemingly worried Guard.

“It-It’s Princess Twilight, your highness. She refused to leave and insists on speaking with you,” he said to us, his voice unsteady before he was shoved away by a purple aura.

“Princess Luna, we have to talk!”

It was indeed Twilight.

Oh for the pride of... what shall we do now?

Before getting the chance to think, we stepped aside to let her in.

Great work. Letting her in is only supporting the matter!

“Princess, we have to talk about the things that were prepared in the tower,” Twilight started, barely looking at us.

We just gulped before answering, “A-and what would that be, Twilight Sparkle?”

“Your reaction surprised me, Princess. If I did anything wrong, I would like to apologize. It wasn’t my intention to hurt or offend you. But I also thought about it, and after speaking with Princess Celestia I came to the point that your reaction results in knowing who prepared everything,” the purple unicorn ended and smiled towards us while our mind trembled.

Oh for the sweet of the moon, why did you have to talk to her dear sister?

“We do not know why you would suggest that we know anything about this, Twilight Sparkle. Besides, this there is no reason to apologize, you did nothing wrong. It is just our mood, it is seemingly down today and we apologize if we took it out on you,” we said, trying to save as much as we could.

“But this is your tower, Princess, you just must know who…”

“Just because this is our tower, we do not know everything going on in it, dear Twilight Sparkle,” we interrupted her.

“Then answer me a question, Princess.” Twilight asked us before her horn glowed.

Oh what now?

“What would that be?” we asked curiously.

Her horn glowed more and a long telescope with various blue ornaments appeared in front of her.

“Why is your name on this telescope? And why is it marked with your seal?” she asked us before levitating it in front of us.

She was right, our name was on it with a royal seal.

Oh no, no, NO!

There it was. We could no longer keep it inside. Without thinking, we teleported away with a scream, not caring about anything at the moment.

Chapter two: Hide and seek with chaos

View Online

I just looked dumbfounded at the position where Princess Luna just stood seconds ago. Was this really her? There wasn't a logical explanation for it, except…

The scream in my dream!

Luna had seen everything, and I was even so stupid to have pushed her with this situation. I felt guilt clenching my heart. This wasn’t how I wanted the Princess to know about everything.

And now I probably won’t even get the chance to talk to her.

In my mind I was going through every possibility, but something was wrong. Did she set up the whole stargazing position on the tower? At least it was her telescope and it was on her tower.

"No, this is ridiculous, why should she do this?” I spoke to myself, but my voice was filled with doubts, “This doesn’t makes sense at all…”

“Ohh, what fun is there in making sense?” a voice sent shivers through my back.

“You’re the last one I need right now, Discord!” I said, looking into the direction of the voice.

My eyes landed on a small plant in the corner, seemly familiar to the vines that invaded Ponyville some time ago. With a poof and a red cloud, the plant was gone and in its place stood Discord, a maddening grin on his face.

“Ohh, Princess Twilight, there is no need to be so… Unkind to me. All I want to do is help you. Why don’t you truuust me?” he said, the word trust simply in overlength.

“How about your seeds attacking the town, my friends, the princesses and the tree of harmony?” I shot back.

“Oh, bu-huh still going after things such long time ago? As I said, I want to help you,” his grin spread wider, “But I will do it my way”

His way? Oh no, no, just no!

“No Discord! Your way only causes chaos, and it is the last thing I want to care about right now,” I replied while shaking my head.

He let out a chuckle and with a flash he got a painting of Princess Luna in his prank.

“Ohh, poor Twilight. So you don’t want to find your special Princess? What a loss for such a smart pony like you,” he rolled the scroll up and just threw it over his shoulder casually.

With a gasp I sent out my magic to quickly hold the painting before it could be ruined, and to my surprise, it was what Discord expected. As soon the picture got in my grip, it transformed into one of Discord smiling at me.

“You’re as easy to read as one of those books you love so much, Twilight. You clearly have no interest in Princess Luna. And of course you never dream or fantasize about her, that would just be ridiculous, right?” he said with a sarcastic drawl that somehow managed to be maddeningly sad at the same time.

Here comes the drama queen… wait what?!

“How did you know about my dreams? Or that I’m thinking about her?” I asked, my voice betraying a hint of my irritation now.

That made him chuckle, “Ohh Princess, I’m the master of chaos! I have my informants of course.”

“You spied and eavesdropped on me the whole time?? And you call yourself a friend?”

Discord smirked.

"But of course. Friends keep an eye on each other, don't they? Or in that case, an ear."

I had no answer for this, so I settled for glaring at him. Maybe, for only one time, he was directly honest, not trying to do his funny stuff.

“Alright Discord. What do you have in mind?” I sighted, eager to get over this.

"I maaaay just know where to find your precious little moon butt..."

“Don’t talk about her like that, Discord,” I muttered, my cheeks burning.

“But it is really fun to help you, Princess Sparkleees,” came the coy reply.

Okay, enough

Pouting, I turned around and left to try and find Luna my own way. There were a few spots in my mind where she could hide, one of these locations was sadly not an option for me.

I wish I could go to the moon with her. I’m sure it would be beautiful

My mind still trembling, I made my way to her royal chambers, inspecting the slightly glowing door.

New Shields around the doors, this will be interesting. If I guess right, they are personal ones. Oh, she will be surprised.

Lighting up my horn and thinking of Luna, my heart started to pump faster and heavier, my feelings filled with pure love for the Princess of the Night. I touched the door slightly, the shield instantly blurring away and proving my hypothesis. As the door swung open, a quite shocked Luna was staring at me while sitting on her bed, stained tears visible on her muzzle.

Luna blinked several times, trying to get the tears out of her eyes so she could see clearly.

"T-twilight?" She got up on her hooves backing away from me until she stood pressed against the opposite wall of her chambers, next to the door to the balcony. She stood there for a few seconds, contemplating what to do, before opening the doors and galloping out on the balcony.

“Wait!” I tried to follow her, but suddenly a colorful bunch of smoke appeared in front of me, leaving me to run straight into Discord with my muzzle.

“Oopsie Daisy, seems like I ruined your chance. I’m so sorry Princess, but I could make this up to you if you would accept my help!” he played serious now, a mustache appearing on his face after a flash, which he proceeded to stroke with his clawed hand as if in deep thought.

I tried to ignore him and looked to the balcony, just to find it empty. Luna had fled.

"It's your fault! All your fault! Now I'll never get the chance to tell her!" I screamed in anger, but as I turned around I was met with an empty room; no Discord to be found.

Great, I’m at the same point as I was before. Maybe asking Princess Celestia?

I quickly abandoned the idea, pretty sure that the Princess wouldn’t help me chase after her sister. Slowly, I made my way up to the balcony to hopefully catch a small hint where Luna flew off to, but there was nothing to be seen.

After searching the room for evidence, I made my way towards my old room in
Celestia’s tower. It was nearly the same room I stayed at during my studies in Canterlot, but at the same time it had been renovated. The bed was a minimum of five times bigger than the old ones, and everywhere in the room hung my banner as a Princess.

Maybe some reading will relax my mind.

Reaching my room, I used a spell that teleported a random book to me, but the book that appeared wasn’t what I had in mind. In front of me laid ‘Dreamwalkers’, a book that described how Alicorns could walk into the so called ‘dreamsphere’, watching and changing the dreams of everypony. I never intend to read it completely, since the book said it was impossible for everypony except especially talented alicorns to master this art.

While I gazed at the cover, my mind rumbled again. First the scream in my dream and then here from Princess Luna. I knew that Luna could visit dreams, but I didn’t know if she could change them or directly appear in them. Maybe the book could answer these pressing questions for me. Grabbing it in my aura I flew to my bed with a few flaps, making myself comfortable and opened the book.

Time ran by and soon the sun was appearing at the horizon. The book revealed nothing besides some interesting facts about the dreamsphere itself. Not a word about the ability to change them completely or appear in them, visible and hearable to the dreamer.

I think the only one that could answer that for me would be Princess Luna…

I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn’t even hear the door opening and Princess Celestia walking in.

“Here you are, Twilight. The Delegates from Saddle Arabia will arrive in a few hours, we should prepare…” she stopped for a moment, seeming to take me in with her eyes before she walked closer, softly brushing her wing over me and snapping me out of my thoughts, “Twilight, is everything alright?”

“Uhm, sorry. Yes, I mean No… Urgh I don’t know, Princess,” I answered, my mind still wandering around.

“Oh Twilight,” she giggled a bit, “How many times to I have to repeat myself? We are equals now, call me Celestia. I can see that something is wrong. Would you like to talk to me about it?”

“But Princ- I mean Celestia. You are thousands of years older than me and much wiser. I will never be an equal to you, and I don’t think I can talk about it,” I replied, my eyes locked onto the sheets on my bed.

Celestia raised her wing under my chin, forcing me to look up into her face, a warm expression shining down on me.

“Oh, my faithful student. You have done many extraordinary things that I could never have done in my entire life span, saving Equestria and me with it many, many times. While you might be no longer my student, I will still be here to lead and guide you. You can tell me everything, Twilight,” she closed with a warm smile that made me smile too.

“Thank you Pr- Celestia. But I don’t know how to talk about it. It’s difficult and I-” I wasn’t coming any further, the next thing unexpected.

“How could that be sooo difficult?” a voice snarled, then began to sing. Yes, sing, “Twilight has a crush on Luna, crush on Luna, crush on Luna. Twilight has a crush on Luna, drea-ming about her, all night.”

It startled Celestia and myself, at the last word fireworks exploded and Discord appeared in front of us, bowing in front of an invisible, cheering audience.

“Oh thank you, thank you everypony! I know I’m incredible,” he said, still bowing and smirking towards Celestia and me.

As I realized what he had sung, my heart dropped several inches. Blushing, I immediately tried a long-range teleportation spell, but a wing from Celestia stopped me. She looked at me with an expression I just couldn’t define, and finally she spoke.

“Is this true, Twilight?” she simply asked.

“Y-yes Princess”

“What was that Twilight?” Celestia asked again, “I can’t hear you”

“Yes, for Ponies sake, I love your sister; Princess Luna!” I screamed before crushing my head into the pillow.

Discord raised a paw into the air, “Yeeees, finally she talked about it, finally-”

A strong gaze from Celestia made him shut his muzzle and disappear in a bright cloud. Then she looked at me again, the expression becoming soft and warm.

“Oh Twilight. Why haven’t you told me earlier? Everything seems clear now, and this explains Luna’s behaviour. She been trying to avoid you for months,” Celestia nuzzled my cheek before smiling.

I looked into her eyes, feeling tears well up in my eyes, “I’m so, so sorry Celestia! Just because of me, Luna ran away and I don’t know where to find her, and Discord only made it worse! What shall I do now?” I sobbed back into my pillow while Celestia brushed her wing over me, seemly calming me down after a while.

“You mean what we shall do now?” Celestia asked with a small smirk.

“Wh-what?” Now I was really confused.

“I will help you, dear Twilight, but for now let us prepare everything for the delegates. After that, we can take care about my sister,” she replied.

“Promise?” I asked, eyes wide upon what she just said.

“Promise, Twilight,” she laughed and wrapped a wing around me, leading me out of the bed and my room.

Maybe, that day wouldn’t be that bad after all.

Chapter three: Waving our path

View Online

After having swiftly escaped Twilight in our chambers, we weren’t really sure what to do. We flew and trotted around aimlessly for a while before finally ending up in a small underground library only we and our sister knew of. While in there, we picked up some old photo albums belonging to my sister and began looking through them. Soon enough, we caught ourselves staring slightly too hard at the pictures involving Twilight.

She truly is an astonishing young mare...

Continuing to look through the albums, we felt more and more impressed by what the purple alicorn had managed to accomplish in such a short time. Some things we were familiar with, such as the Grand Galloping Gala ticket fiasco and the one with the zebra mare living in the Everfree Forest, Zecora. An almost shocking insight hit us as we put aside yet another album.

None of this, of all the things Twilight and her friends have accomplished, would have happened if we hadn’t become Nightmare Moon.

However, this knowledge didn’t bother us the same way we first thought it would. Quite the opposite, in fact. As we gazed at page after page of friendship letters and pictures of Twilight and her friends, we realized that Nightmare Moon had actually done something good. She had brought these friends together. Yes, if not for Nightmare Moon, maybe Discord would rule this land, spreading his chaos everywhere, or the changelings would be spreading across the nation, sucking the love out of everypony.

We switched page and were greeted by a picture of Twilight, ‘Tia, and two foreigners, who from their looks were most likely Saddle Arabian delegates. The picture reminded us of something, something important that we’ve forgotten.

Oh, what could it be? Wait...Saddle Arabia...the delegates! The Saddle Arabian delegates are arriving today and we are supposed to be there to greet them with ‘Tia and....Twilight.

Remembering that Twilight would be there, we considered not showing up. Celestia could surely come up with an excuse…

No, what are we thinking? Equestria always must come first, before any personal matters. Surely Twilight must understand and respect that.

And so, we made up our mind, we quickly put the albums back in the shelves and left the library, hurrying as to not be late for the meeting with the delegates.

We reached the castle at the right moment, the royal carriage for the delegates was just arriving at the front entrance. Quickly, we rushed into our room, preparing ourself as fast as we could before heading down again. Tia and Twilight were waiting in the main hall, smiling at us. Before we could say anything, they took us between them and we walked outside to greet the delegates. Twilight at our side wasn’t really helping.

She looks really nice, and her fur is… No, stop!

They smiled the whole time and we grew curious as to why they would be so happy. We ignored it during the meeting as well as we could, but the dinner with the delegates left us kind of flattered…

Twilight sat down right next to us, still that lovely smile on her muzzle…

Wait, did we just described her smile as being lovely?

Anyways… during the whole dinner, she seemed to accidentally brush her wings softly at our sides or give us a nice view of her cutie mark. It just wasn’t fair, and we were fairly certain we had an idea of her intentions after this.

The delegates thanked us after dinner for the excellent evening and left to their rooms in the guest tower as we saw our chance. We rushed out of the hall and were about to reach our room as one wing stopped us.

“You won’t escape this time, dear sister,” a familiar voice said, then we felt the tingly feeling of a teleportation spell on us.

We appeared in Twilight’s room, our sister at our side. Looking with desperation at the door, we saw the protection spells on it, just like on every window. There was no escape. The next try was frantic, but we tried nonetheless. As our teleportation spell took hold we appeared in our own room, just to be instantly re-teleported into Twilight’s, smashing onto the floor muzzle first.

Twilight came out of her corner, staring at us, “We will talk, and this time you will stay here and listen, Princess Luna.”

Our mind raced, trying to find a solution.

This can never end well...

"You have no right to demand such thing of us, Twilight Sparkle," We said with all the authority we could muster.

"But we can, dearest sister," Celestia said, adapting her speching pattern and using the royal 'we'.

Hearing her use the royal 'we' had an oddly relaxing effect on us, and it didn't take us many seconds to figure out that this was what she had been going for.

Through using the royal 'we', she reminded us of old times and made us calm down.

"Pr- Luna. Listen to me. I should have been honest with you from the beginning, but I wasn't, and there's nothing to do about that. But I can be honest now. I love you, with all my heart. I didn't want to tell you earlier because I was just a normal unicorn, nowhere near good enough to be a royal lover. But now I am an alicorn, and the situation is different. I can be with you, and I want to. I’m really sorry for what you might have discovered in my dreams and I know that it must have scared you at that moment, but could you give me a chance? I would be honored by even the slightest one.”

We were shocked at Twilight's bluntness and tried to come up with an appropriate answer, but couldn't find the right words to do so. One one hoof, we wanted to scream 'NO' and try to flee once more, but at the same time we wanted to scream 'YES'.

Did we just think about screaming Yes?

Thankfully, our mind was still clear, so it acted automatically.

“No.”

Twilight just stood in front of us, jaw falling down. She simply stood still forseveral moment before she began to cry. Our sister shot us a glare that we couldn’t misunderstand, and just as we wanted to approach Twilight, she covered herself with a bright purple shield, which we promptly slammed into snout first.

“Twilight, please let us explain…” we began, but the sound of a ‘plop’ disturbed us.

The purple alicorn vanished in a long-range teleportation spell. She fled from us.

We faced our sister, trying to say something, but the angry gaze we received kept our muzzle firmly shut. There were barely any moments where we have seen our sister that angry, and we gulped.

“Princess Luna,” her voice boomed through the room, “We thought that you would be wise and gentle enough to take proper care of our former student. But it seems that we have been proven wrong.”

“Please, Sister. We want to mention our apologizes for this situation and-” we started, but were quickly interrupted.

“Enough! We don’t want to hear anymore of this. Now speak. What do you feel about Twilight Sparkle?” she demanded, still using the voice.

What do we feel about her? She is smart, funny, willing to learn and she enjoys our night. She saved us.

Our heart was beating louder and louder while we thought about everything we felt about Twilight. Then our mind wandered around various nights we caught her enjoy the moon and the stars, then the dream…

We… We…

“We might feel more for her than we were aware of, dear Sister,” we continued, surprised by ourselves.

‘Tia seemed happy with this answer and approached us, nuzzling our neck.

“So, do you know what to do now?” she asked us.

“We do, but we don’t know where to find her Sister,” we stated, ears folding back.

She smiled wholeheartedly at us and winked, “You will find what you seek in Ponyville,” she said before turning and leaving the room, leaving us with a beating heart and a lot of confusion.

We gazed around us at the beautiful view. Right up front was the small cozy countryside town best known as 'Ponyville'. A little further to the right, we saw the big Apple farm which was built on lands our sister herself had granted a family of seed collectors long ago.

We heard one member of the ponies who originally was given the land by 'Tia is still alive...perhaps we should visit him or her one day...

The wind took us on a smooth ride into the center of Ponyville where we could finally rest our wings a bit. We flew here faster than we had ever before and we just couldn’t tell why. Maybe Twilight had more of an effect on us than we could see before.

With our thoughts wandering as they were, we nearly missed the library entirely. The library was dark, no lights on in the windows and no movements around the branches. We made our way across the ground until we were stationed at the door, not a single evidence of life on the inside.

Maybe our Sister was wrong about this?

We shook our head in disagreement with our own thoughts.

No. Twilight will be inside, and we will tell her how we feel, once and for all.

We quickly took to the night skies for a few short moments before we landed on the balcony and quietly opened the door. It was dark in the room, but being the Princess of the Night, we saw everything as clear as if the room had been filled with daylight. On the bed, which was located not far from us, was something that looked like a pile of blankets laying perfectly still. Moving closer, however, we soon realized that it was not a pile of blankets. It was a pony. A purple alicorn to be exact. Now standing next to the bed, we could hear her cry. It was a heart wrenching sound, crushing our heart into smaller and smaller pieces with each sob. We stood there for several moments, unnoticed, just listening to her crying and feeling our own heart be crushed into pieces.

Just like we destroyed her heart when we rejected her...

Deciding we couldn't stand there and wait forever, we spoke up.

"Twilight Sparkle...is that you?"

The purple pile on the bed moved, mumbling something we couldn't hear.

"Twilight Sparkle! We've come here to offer you an apology."

At first, there was no response. But then she spoke.

"I. It's I, not we. The royal 'we' was taken out of practice five hundred years ago."

“We… I know that, Twilight Sparkle. I learned it at that Nightmare Night, remember? But with our… I mean my subjects and all those memories…“ I said, trying to find words, but to no use.

She is right, and somehow it is easy to change because of her...

“I’ve come here to offer you an apology, Twilight. What I did was cruel and I did it without thinking. We… I might feel likewise for you, Twilight Sparkle.”

The lavender mare looked at me with wide eyes, before wincing, “If this is some kind of sick joke, it is not funny, Princess Luna.”

“I am not joking, Twilight,” I tried to say with as much confidence I could bring up.

Silence, then one exclamation, “Prove it!”

What does she mean by that? Should I hug her? No… Kiss her??

I smiled and leaned in and nearly expected that Twilight would back up, but instead she raised forward, meeting me half-way. Our muzzles met, and it felt good. Better than I can ever remember it feeling. Yes, this was right. Twilight was right. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the moment, wishing to make it last forever. Which, as an alicorn, actually would be possible. Finally breaking the kiss, I spoke up.

"Twilight Spa...Twily," I experimented, softly smiling, "If you do not disagree, I'd like to invite you for a Hearts and Hooves day dinner tomorrow. Be in Canterlot Castles garden at sunset if you wish to accept my invitation."

Wait, did I just ask her out on a Hearts and hooves day date?

Not waiting for any response, we… I got out on the balcony, spreading my wings and flew away, leaving Ponyville and Twilight Sparkle far behind.

TWILIGHT'S POV

I waited at the gardens of Canterlot Castle, just in time for the sun to set. Luna wasn’t anywhere to be seen, so I just walked around for a while. Everything seemed like a dream, part of me unable to believe that Luna would have similar feelings.

A small noise made me jump up, just to relax immediately at the sight of Luna. She flew down to me slowly, the last signs of the sun shimmering through her feathers, making her look like a true goddess. My goddess.

She landed and I gave her a kiss, which she eagerly returned. My heart pumped loudly, it seemed it would want to escape my chest. As we broke, she looked up into the sky and I followed her gaze. Luna slowly raised the moon until it hung aloft, shining in the sky, surrounded by some magnificent stars. I looked closer at the stars and gasped, some of them shaping into my cutie mark.

“Do you like it?” Luna asked sheepishly.

“Like it? No, I don’t like it,” I said and Luna’s face froze, “I love it!” I added then with a small peck, brightening her expression again.

She just looks so lovely.

“I was afraid for a short amount of time. What do you want to do now?” she smiled a bit, looking at me awaiting an answer.

I would love to kiss you… feel your touch on me while enjoying your embrace…

I closed my eyes and smiled, not noticing that Luna had closed the gap between us. The only thing I noticed was a feathery embrace, making me feel deeply warm, then soft but firm lips pressing on mine.

I would love that too...

My eyes widened in shock, those weren’t my thoughts...

D-did I just hear Luna's thoughts? Did she hear mine? T-that’s impossible…

As we broke away, Luna smirked at me.

“You have to teach me this trick sometimes,” I said, still a bit unsure.

She gave me a small peck before replying, “It’s not a trick. I’m old enough to know some powerful spells, Twilight. I hope I didn’t scared you.”

“No, it was just interesting to hear you in my head,” came my soft answer while I brushed my wings over her side, “I love you, Luna.”

Luna unfolded her wings, touching mine softly, “I love you too, Twilight. Please forgive me that it took me so long to see it.”

“Don’t be. I should have waited and tried to control my dreams. What I did was stupid…” I replied, ears folding back

“Nopony can control their dreams completely, not even me, Twilight. Do you think we should make this official?” Luna smiled and took me into a feathery embrace.

Should we do it? At some point, we might have to. But for now we should just enjoy this..

I shook my head, returning the embrace, “There is time for that later. For now, I just want to enjoy us, together.”

She smiled at me. “I wouldn’t want it otherwise,” she said, then her lips pressed firmly on mine, hungry with passion and love, starting a small firework in my heart.

I wanted to never have this ending, and I bet Luna would agree. We were in unison, true love finally found.
