The Doctor began to stir and Derpy gave a huff of relief as he opened his eyes. "Ngh. Derpy wha- what happened? My head feels like it is going to split in two."

Derpy reached out a hoof to pull him up before replying "Last thing I remember you were going on about how Moscow was bound to have cows, then I wake up here and see you unconscious next to me." The duo looked around them. They were in what appeared to be a normal forest except for the one fact, everything was block shaped.

"I don't think we are in equestria anymore." The doctor said looking around him.

Derpy looked up at the sky "Even the sun and clouds are all blocky." The Pegasus began walking backwards trying to follow one of the clouds, and promptly tripped over something. "Eep!" she squealed flipping completely over the object and landing behind it. The doctor alerted by her squeal turned. In front of them lay a chest, equally as blocky as the rest of their surroundings.

The two ponies looked at the chest for a moment then at each other, the Doctor broke into a huge grin."I wonder what's inside." He tentatively reached out a hoof to touch the box, when his hoof made contact the lid automatically opened causing Derpy to jump. The doctor chuckled at her which and she huff in indignation, however when an image popped into existence in front of the chest they both nearly jumped out of their skins.

The image was of a 3x9 box grid with two items in the top left slots. The doctor walked around the image viewing it from all angles, after a moment he approached it and reached out his hoof towards one of the two filled slots which had the icon of the book and gave it a tap. With a shower of dust the doctors hoof became occupied by a blocky book. The plain brown cover had one word. "Survive"

An Instruction manual, the doctors bane.

"This book is an instruction manual to the world around you.". The Doctor simply chucked the book over his shoulder. "Never use those. I am getting tired of all this not knowing where we are. Lets get in the TARDIS and do some quick research."

Derpy retrieved the book and returned to the Doctor's side as he began to look around, searching for his blue box. After several moments his search became more frantic as he didn't find what he was looking for. Before Derpy could react the Doctor began to dash around the surrounding area whipping his head around, searching for any trace of TARDIS blue.

Derpy took to the sky hoping to spot it, however as she passed the clouds she had yet to spot anything even remotely like their transport. However she could see where the forest dissipated into fields, Derpy began to touch down on one of the clouds to gain a solid vantage point and abruptly fell through. The startled Pegasus recovered mid-fall and descended back into the clearing.

"Doctor I don't like this, the TARDIS is missing, everything is blocky and I can't stand on clouds." The Doctor, who had been attempting to climb a tree for a better view slumped back to the ground. However this didn't last long before he sprung back up grinning.

"I know! I can use the sonic to track the TARDIS. I figured that out after I accidentally parked it in a corn maze once and got all turned around." The Doctor reached into the pocket in his flank and froze, quickly he searched the other side, once again his hoof came away empty.

"Both the TARDIS and the sonic!" The Doctor looked put out for a moment before Derpy spoke up.

"Doctor I think we should read the book, it might have some answers." The Doctor's expression changed from put out to huffy.
"But instruction manuals are so boring and bossy." After a moment of pouting the Doctor put his hoof out for the book and Derpy handed it over. With a sigh he cracked it open and began to browse, mumbling to himself as he went.

"To view your hotbar press F1" The doctor read aloud. "Press? F1?" As the Doctor spoke the word "F1" an image appeared in front of him. It had a 1x9 grid similar to the one from the chest. Above it were two other things, a line of ten red hearts and a line of ten ham shanks half of which were blacked out.

"F1" The Doctor said again and the image disappeared. The Doctor and Derpy exchanged a look.
"F1" Derpy said and a similar image appeared however six of the ten ham shanks were full.

The Doctor got his "idea" grin and his image re-appeared. "Thinking it works as well." He stated as Derpy experimented with it. "Great!... So what does it do?." The Doctor consulted the book again. "The hearts are health if they all go black we respawn back where we started or at the last place we slept. The other ten icons are hunger if they all go black we start to lose health and if it is all the way full we will start to gain health again. The grid thing is for items apparently." The Doctor picked up the book from its place on the ground and his hotbar changed, the first slot in the grid now held a book icon.

"Oh..." Both the Doctor and Depry said understanding now what the grid was. The Doctor quickly returned to the book. "To view your inventory press E." The Doctor read, he then thought the command and a larger grid filled his vision. After experimenting with it for a moment he discovered that he could make the book disappear by placing it in his inventory and that he could switch slots on his hotbar.

"To collect items you must strike a block until it breaks, this sometimes needs the assistant of a tool (see tools)" After the Doctor read this he snapped the book shut and shifted to an empty slot before dismissing his hotbar. "All righty then let's get some materials!"

Derpy followed the Doctor over to a tree, he began to strike the tree with his hoof and it slowly began to crack. "Doesn't that hurt?" Derpy asked with a look of concerns "It is odd but it doesn't." As he finished speaking the part of the tree he had been striking broke and an icon was added to his hotbar.

Both the Doctor and Derpy stared at the tree. The bottom part was still normal and the top part was hovering in mid air. "Alright then." The Doctor started on the rest of the tree, Derpy chose an almost identical tree and was about the start striking it when she had an idea. She turned around reared onto her front hooves and kicked, the tree instantly broke and five pieces of wood were added to her inventory.

The Doctor turned to her. "Well that seems to be more efficient"

As the square sun set, the two ponies collapsed next to the chest and opened up their inventory. "'I've got 32 logs 12 saplings and... An apple!" The Doctor quickly selected the red fruit and brought it to his hotbar causing it to appear in his hoof. It quickly dissapeared as he greedily scarfed it down. His hunger bar went from one icon to three. "I have 42 logs 14 saplings and 2 apples." Derpy took one of her two apples and dug in bringing her hunger up to two and a half.

The Doctor sat up and looked the chest over. He took the remaining item from it, a pickaxe. "dDerpy would you break the chest." Derpy looked confused for a moment before realizing what he meant and struck at it with a fore hoof until it broke and joined the wood in her inventory.

"Good now we are free to explore!" As the Doctor spoke however they both heard a groan. "Oh come on, exploring is fun!" The Doctor said, his usual grin shining.

"I didn't make that sound" The duo turned their heads towards the noise. A blocky green skinned man was shambling towards them, and from the stench that it was emitting and the state of it's eye sockets it didn't look to friendly. "L-let me be the one to say it this t-time." Derpy stuttered starting to back away "RUN!"

The two ponies turned tail and ran, dodging trees and passing other things in the dark. Derpy thought she saw a ginormous spider but dismissed it as a trick of the shadows. As they ran several arrows shot by and Derpy felt an impact but just kept running, they soon emerged from the trees and found themselves dashing across the fields that Derpy had spotted earlier.

"Doctor we can't keep this up!" Derpy cried glancing at her hunger bar which was nearing empty. The two ponies looked around for shelter but found none. Suddenly the Doctor stopped running and began to dig at the ground, Derpy screeched to a halt with the aid of her wings and turned back to her friend. She could see the green skinned men and several other figures exiting the trees, Derpy was about to yell for the doctor to keep going when she noticed what he was doing. She quickly caught on and joined him in digging a pit. When the had a hole 1x2x3 blocks large they jumped in and the doctor closed them in with dirt. They panted for several moments before they expanded the walls of their shelter a bit allowing them to lay down.

"Doctor, do you think we will be okay." Derpy asked wrapping her wings around her like a blanket.
The Doctor lay down opposite to her and gave her that smile that made her feel like everything was just one massive game. "I promise you, we will both be brilliant."

We need to build

The Doctor and Derpy were awoken by the sound of rattling bones. The Doctor got up and holding the pickaxe, ready to strike, he broke one of the blocks above them. When nothing happened he dug a stair case and helped Derpy out of the hole. As they looked around they saw monsters running about surrounded by blocky fire. One keeled over and others followed, leaving items where they had disappeared. The doctor ran over and gathered the items before returning to Derpy who had re-covered their hole.

The Doctor was about to say something but froze. "Oh my gosh Derpy! You've got an arrow sticking out of your back!" Derpy whirled around and sure enough a pixlated arrow was lodged in her back. "That must have been the impact I felt when we were running." She said calmly.

"Are you alright! I mean did it puncture anything vital!?" The Doctor was panicking slightly, ponies were fragile creatures from his perspective. Derpy calmly pulled the arrow out and it disintegrated in a shower of sparks.

"I didn't feel any pain at all, just a thump when it hit." She got a thoughtful look on her face and called up her hotbar. "Look Doctor, my health is at nine instead of ten. I don't think we feel injuries here like we would in Equestria." The Doctor checked what she said and nodded calming down, there was no wound or any sign that she had been hit.

"Now, I think we should do something about a more permanent shelter, I don't want to be stuck in a hole again." Derpy said looking around her. "We need water, for certain." The Doctor gave a small smile to himself, she was already onto the next problem and was working out what they had to do. "Does the book say anything?" Derpy asked turning to her friend. He selected the book and opened it browsing once more

"'A shelter is needed to avoid the monsters of the night (see hostile mobs).' Well that is obvious! 'to build a shelter you must create four walls and a roof.'" The Doctor turned to Derpy "I think this thing is mocking us."

Derpy rolled her eyes and looked around her. "Doctor why don't you keep browsing the book for useful information, I have an idea." The doctor shrugged and continued to flip through the pages. Derpy strode off, she had wood she could use but she didn't think it would be enough, so she turned to a hill nearby and began to dig up some of the dirt, careful to maintain a decent appearance.

When she had collected 64 she was surprised to find that another stack begun. She stopped for a moment and then decided that she had enough. She looked back at the doctor and saw him staring at the book, Derpy then headed back into the forest. It only took about a minute to reach the clearing that they had made before, she quickly found the middle and began placing blocks.

When the Doctor next looked up he could no longer see Derpy, after looking around and checking to see if she was on the other side of the hill he began calling her name. "Derpy... Miss Hooves!" The Doctor began to trot through the forest searching the sky as well as the trees. He stopped when he spotted a dirt structure, Derpy exited the building and looked it over. "There you are! I was worried, you just disappeared."

Derpy turned and smiled. "Sorry I just thought it would be nice to have a place surrounded by trees. What do you think!" She gestured grandly at the structure in front of her. It was plain, it had clearly been built to use as little blocks as possible, in the front was a 2x2 hole. "All it needs to be complete is doors and lights. Does the book have anything to say about those?"

The Doctor looked the shelter over before responding. "Apparently we can do something called crafting, all we need for doors is wood. The lights however need coal which can only be found underground." he ducked inside and viewed the small space, it was cozy yet not cramped, it was six blocks wide four blocks deep and three blocks high with two tiny alcoves in the back wall.

"Derpy, what are the alcoves for?" The Doctor asked poking his head into one.
"They are for chests." She replied placing their chest in one of them. "If we can get another one then we each can have one. Then if we can get beds then they can go in front of them."

The Doctor looked at Derpy as she walked outside again to double check her building. He was surprised, the usually gentle pegusi was taking charge and seemed to be in her element, thinking of their needs and figuring out how to make things comfortable in this strange world.

Derpy re-entered and gave a satisfied nod. "So what is this crafting thing?" The Doctor showed her how to use the 2x2 grid in her inventory and they used their new crafting table to add doors to their tiny base. To add the finishing touch Derpy used her new skills to make a sign and walked outside. The Doctor who was flipping through the book for more information on mining started to follow but was halted by a grey hoof "It is going to be a surprise."

The doctor sighed and returned to his reading. After a moment Derpy called for him to come out, as he opened the door and walked up to his assistant. She gestured for him to turn around and he obliged, above the door sat a sign which read:

The Doctor

There is a pig....

That night the Doctor and Derpy took shelter in their new base. The Doctor conked out almost immediately, but Derpy chanced a look outside before retiring. She regretted it as soon as she saw the pony sized spider mulling about outside.

The next morning Derpy awoke to the sound of the door opening, she sat up and saw the Doctor's back as he exited. She stretched out with a yawn and followed him. "Morning Doctor."

"Morning" He replied however it lacked his usual cheerfulness.

"What's wrong?"

"I just feel so tired." the Doctor called up his hot bar and went still. "My hunger is gone and my health is at half." Derpy pulled up her hot bar and found herself in a similar situation.

"Well I have an apple but I doubt it would do much good on its own. What does the manual say about food?" Derpy asked calling up the apple from her inventory.

The doctor called up the manual and began flipping through it, after a moment he spoke " Food is needed to replenish hunger and health, it can be acquired through many means, fishing, animals, farming, and logging." He browsed for a minute. "Basically it goes on to explain the many ways to get food." He snapped the book shut and switched to an empty slot.

The Doctor got up and started walking towards the plains and Derpy followed. Once they reached it the doctor started looking around. After a moment he spoke up "Derpy, ponies can eat grass right?"

"Yeah, it isn't the most tasty thing but it works in a pinch."

The Doctor eyed the grass and reached down to take a bite. The second his teeth closed around the blades it shattered and was replaced by a floating item.

The Doctors stomach growled as he collected it. "It's a seed.... Well that's rubbish...." He opened the book and began flipping through it. "Hey! it says here that if you plant the seeds they grow into wheat which can be used to make bread!"

Derpy stared at him for a moment "Um doctor that is how things work in Equestria too. I really don't see how that is going to help us."

"Think about everything that has happened so far. Do you really think things happen the same as back in your universe?" He stowed the book and Derpy followed as he headed back to the base. Once inside he began crafting something, referring to the book. When he finished the doctor headed out side, using his new tool he planted the seed.

"There, now we just wait and we will have wheat." The Doctor said sitting in front of it, Derpy rolled her eyes.

"That is probably going to take a while Doctor." She got no reply. " Well while you do that I am going to look for some other food." The Doctor just kept staring at the seeds.

Derpy admired the scenery as she walked along, this place was kind of beautiful in a blocky sort of way. Unfortunately she had yet to spot anything other than gras- wait there was something yellow, she trotted over and inspected the yellow flower. Ponies ate flowers but they also ate grass and she knew how that option had ended up. Still she wouldn't know if she didn't try.

She reached out and gave the flower a light tap, it materialized in her inventory and she called it up, It looked blocky. Derpy lowered her head to take a bite. Her tongue was met with spongy petals, it tasted like a flower though she was slightly surprised that it was even blocky when chewed. She kept hunting down flowers until she was full and had a good dozen extra to bring back.

Derpy hummed as she walked, her eyes skimming over the ground to see if she had missed anything. And she apparently had as she spotted an egg floating in front of her. Well it was random but you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, Derpy picked up the egg and stored it in her inventory before turning around.

The next thing she knew she was face to face with a pig. She stared at the pig.... The pig stared back.....

"DERPY! It's starting to grow! One second it was just seeds and then it was sprouts! Isn't that br- oh a pig, fancy that." The Doctor stopped his ecstatic prancing and walked over. The pig turned away from Derpy and took a few steps before staring off into space, the Doctor was in front of it before Derpy could blink.

"Fascinating, its head is square and even its facial features are made up of blocks." Derpy took a couple steps back, the pig was kinda creepy.

"Derpy, are pigs sentient in equestria?" The Doctor asked, circling the new animal

"Not anymore than the wildlife." She replied sitting down.

"Interesting...." The Doctor followed the pig as it took a few steps in a random direction. Derpy heard a clucking and looked to her right, a chicken sat there seemingly watching the pig.

"Well I guess that explains the egg." Derpy thought out loud staring at the bird. The Doctor turned at her words and in a flash was inspecting the chicken.

"Um doctor these weren't here before." Derpy said looking around her. "And neither were they." She gestured to the newly appeared group of pigs mulling around behind them.

The Doctor stopped inspecting the bird and looked up. "No, no they weren't"

"What does the book say about animals?" Derpy asked a bit unnerved by the somewhat creepy vacant stares of the pigs.

The doctor began flipping through the pages. "It says, 'Animals spawn rates are decided by biome, each contain a different drop that can be quiet useful. All animals are harmless even when provoked.' Well that's good news"

Derpy looked at them "So what do we do with them?" She asked turning to the doctor.

"Well......... Bacon?"

HeHo HeHo it's off to mine we go.

Derpy stared at the Doctor for a moment before his comment clicked.

"DOCTOR!"

The stallion grinned sheepishly. "It was a joke! While it is technically listed as edible in the book neither of us are biologically compatible with anything other than an herbivore diet."

"Compa-what now?" Derpy asked now distracted from the ill tasted joke.

"Ehhhhh never mind. The real question is what should we do with these animals." Turning his attention back to the pigs and chicken. Tentatively reaching out with a fore hoof the Doctor gently pushed at the pigs side. It reacted by lowering it's head, seemingly eating some of the grass on the dirt blocks.

"............Should we tip it?" Derpy asked her face serious but a bit of mischievous curiosity in her eyes.

The Doctor was silent for a moment. "Sure why not." The two walked around to the other side of the pig and pushed at it's side.

After about a minute of aimlessly pushing the pig around the field the pig decided to walk off leaving the two ponies muzzles to become acquainted with the ground. The Doctor stood up. "Well that was a pointless yet strangely fun activity, now what should we do?"

The two thought for a moment. "Hey can you hand me the manual for a second?" The Doctor complied and Derpy began flipping through the pages her tongue peeking out in concentration. "Ah ha here it is!" she exclaimed tapping the page with a hoof. "'Many resources are found below ground, including cobblestone, coal, Iron, gold the coveted diamond and many more. These items are used as building material as well as being used to craft tools and other items. Most if not all blocks require the use of a pickaxe to harvest."

Derpy snapped the book shut. "So lets go mining." The two returned to their base and found a spot nearby, the Doctor called up the wooden pickaxe and began to dig. A few blocks down they hit stone and their pace slowed, a minute later the pickaxe shattered in the Doctor's hoof.

"Um is that supposed to happen?" Derpy asked a bit nervous that one of their few possessions had just broke. The doctor held out a hoof for the manual and the two began to research.

"Oh so that's how tools work."

It was dark in the newly created mine as the two ponies took a break. After having made two stone picks they had immediately returned to digging and after choosing a method of mining that made a 3x4 descending tunnel thing, they had fell into a rhythm. After getting a few blocks down the Doctor had hit a tiny two block vein of coal and had celebrated with a victory dance that had sent Derpy into a giggling fit.

"Doctor, how long do you think we have been mining?" Derpy asked as she passed him several of the flowers she had collected earlier. He shrugged.

"I don't know, a while?" While the Doctor ate Derpy moseyed up to the entrance of their mine to check on the time.

"Doctor..... It's night time...."

The Doctor quickly joined her and confirmed that indeed the square moon had now risen. And he could hear a hiss. Bugger.

Creeping slowly, the two poked their heads out and looked around, a giant spider was about four blocks away.

"Do you think we can make it to the base?" Derpy whispered eyeing the structure.

"Do you want to stay in the mine all night?" The Doctor replied. Derpy sighed, he had a point.

"On three. One, two, two, two, two."The Doctor stage whispered.

"Three" Derpy said and dashed for the doors, the Doctor on her heels. With a slam, the door snapped shut behind the two just as the spider reached the door. Derpy backed away shuddering at the thing.

"Ugh I hate spiders! Blech"She stated vehemently. The Doctor chuckled and pulled up his inventory, quickly putting a piece of coal and a stick in the 2x2 grid he crafted a torch. Placing it above the door he turned to his companion.

"I think things are going pretty well don't you Miss Hooves?" He grinned.
