Scootaloo, having learned all Rainbow Dashes moves moves on to bigger and better things. Not to mention, she meets a nice pony that she really likes.
Scootaloo enters the Wonder Bolt Academy after becoming a better flyer. How will she perform? Will she set any records? Will she be better than even Rainbow Dash? Read and find out!
Not much of a Romance yet, but I tagged it as such because it will be more so soon. Hopefully. :)
This is going to 1 part of the Cutie Mark Chronicles, Take 2. I'm hoping me and Killsy get to cowrite the next one, so be watching for that.
"What are you doing Scootaloo?" asked Rainbow Dash, "What's this you're writing on?". She was eventually able to get the paper away from Scootaloo and read the title aloud. "Wonder Bolts Academy Registration Form. Wow. you actually expect to get into an elite flight class?"
"Yes, I do" replied Scootaloo who was much older than the last time she was in flight school. And just half a year ago, She had gotten her cutie mark. She had waited all that time, trying so many different things, and now it was there. Her friends had them too. The Cutie Mark Crusaders had all gotten their cutie marks.
'What are their talents' may be asking. I'll answer part of that question. But I'm only focus on one talent, Scootaloo's. Her talent is tricks. 'What kinds of tricks' you ask? Any kind: Flying, Scooter,Bike. Any thing you can think of.
But I'm getting off topic. Let's get back to the story.
"Why shouldn't I be given a fair chance to enter the Wonder Bolts Academy" Scootaloo asked.
"I've heard it it's going to be harder to get in with the new teacher" Rainbow Dash said, "I heard she's really tough."
"Do you know her Rainbow Dash? Who is she?" Scootaloo asked excitedly.
"It's me" Rainbow Dash said, "Aren't you excited for me? Or for your self? You'll definitely get in an get to work with me"
"I've already worked with you a lot, remember?" Scootaloo asked, "And I don't want you to treat me any differently just because we're basically sisters."
"I'd never even think to do anything like that. Why do you think I'd do that?" Rainbow Dash asked. The truth was that she was thinking of being nicer to Scootaloo because she was easily offended and would walk (or rather fly) out on the class if she was.
"Now" she said, "if you don't mind' I'm gong to finish my application."
'But what if I can't her in without giving her special treatment?' Rainbow Dash started thinking, She'd be heart broken. But what if I did let her in? What if she found out? These thoughts scared her if any of them happened Scootaloo may never talk to her again. Who would she go to for help or in times of trouble? She had no family.
"Ok" Rainbow Dash said "I'll leave you alone to finish it, but don't be disappointed if you don't make it."
"I won't" she said, "because I know i'll make it with all the training you've given me"
When the time came to pick the applicants from the group in which Scootaloo's letter was in, one of the other ponies picked it up. He said "If this filly can do all she says she can, she should definitely be with us already".
"Ok" Rainbow Dash said, "If you think she's that good. I think you may be exaggerating her talents a bit."
"Why don't you look at the file if you're so sure" the other pony shot back.
"Fine, I will" said Rainbow Dash, and picked up the file thrown to her. It was only then that Rainbow Dash realized it was Scootaloo's file. She could recognize the messy hand writing and the answers. She said "This girl is practically my little sister."
"All the better reason to have her here. If she has as much talent as you." the other pony said, "I assume you have taught her some of your moves?" He asked.
"Of course I did" Rainbow Dash replied " Why wouldn't I show my own sister my moves? You're right! Send her a letter letting he know that she will be coming to the Wonder Bolts Academy."
"Ok ma'am" he replied "That fills the last spot for that class they will come in a week to start training."
When Scootaloo got her letter, she and the original cutie mark crusaders were so excited. They stood up all night imagining what the academy might be like, how many ponies would be there, and how many would pass (More specifically if she would pass). "We know you'll pass" said Babs.
"Yeah!" said Apple Bloom "Other than Rainbow Dash, your the best flyer in Ponyville. We're glad to have such a talented friend and we're proud of you for being able to make it into the academy."
"Just don't forget to write." Sweetie Belle laughed, "We don't want to end up like Pinkie worrying about you."
When it was time for them to say good bye to each other, and Scootaloo promised to write, for the thousandth time, Scootaloo flew off in the direction of the academy.
She was really excited about what she was going to do for the first day. But, she was also nervous. She wanted Rainbow dash to treat her as nicely as possible. And to give her some tips. But she knew that it would be unfair to everypony.
When he got there, she saw the rest of the rest of her class standing in front of a circular machine. It had a strap on the side of it, like you could strap a pony into it.
Just as she started to think about what it was for, Rainbow Dash started to walk in front of the line. The class was about to begin.
Rainbow Dash got up to go greet the newcomers, knowing that her sister was in this group, but not knowing how she'd do. When she got to the group, they all seemed very confident, especially Scootaloo.
Rainbow was afraid her orange sister would fail and not be able to stay in the class. But she wanted to do everything in her power to help her.
On the other hand, she was told to not give her sister any special treatment. By the mare alone, and by the other Wonderbolts.
What was she suppose to do? How could she help her sister with out anyone noticing? She would just have to trust her sister. And have faith that she would fly well.
She noticed that all the ponies were in attention position. "You can all relax. I know my letter says stand in attention when a Wonderbolt is present. But I'm an exception."
Every pony in the line relaxed until Rainbow Dash gave them their first drill. She yelled "Everypony in the sky and give me five hundred laps". Everypony started to groan but did as they were told. For they knew, that if they didn't, they could get kicked out.
All of them were trying to go as fast as they could, to prove their speed. But those who did, were worn out by lap 125, and going much slower. Those who paced themselves were able to maintain speed throughout the drill. To Rainbow Dash's surprise, Scootaloo kept the fastest speed throughout the drill.
When every pony was finished, she walked over to Rainbow Dash and asked "How did I do?".
Rainbow Dash looked her in the eyes and replied, "You beat my time from when I was here as a student. How do you think you did?". She just shrugged. "You just broke an academy record that I had set as a student" she exclaimed.
Her heart started racing. She couldn't believe what she'd just done. She had beaten her sister's time from when she was there. There must be some kind of mistake. Or maybe this was a prank.
Rainbow Dash noticed this and spoke up, "There was no mistake, and this isn't any kind of prank. We wouldn't joke about something this serious." she said.
Another pony in the class walked up to Scootaloo. He said "It must feel amazing to have beaten the fastest flyer here."
"I don't know." she replied. "It feels good to be the fastest, but that was my sister's record I just broke. I don't want her to feel bad because I beat it. And I know I'm not the best, but she may think, because of this, I don't"
"Don't worry about it too much" the other pony said. "If she really is your sister, she'll forgive you."
"Thanks" she said. "I don't think I've met you before what's your name?"
"My name is Sky Blitz" he said, "What's your's"
"I'm Scootaloo" she replied, "Let's go. I think were about to do our second drill is about to begin.
The class assembled in front of the machine they had seen earlier. When she was sure she had everypony's attention, she started to explain the drill. "This is the Dizzytron 9000" she explained, "You will be strapped into the machine. We will start to spin you very fast. We will then have the machine let you go. Your goal is to recover and land safely. You will be timed. First up will be Sky Blitz."
Sky blitz flew up to the machine. "Is it on full speed?" he asked Rainbow Dash.
"No" replied Rainbow Dash "Do you want it to be?".
"No" he said "just turn it up a notch."
"Okay. You asked for it." Rainbow Dash said. She signaled the operator to start the machine. When it was at the speed Sky Blitz had asked for, she yelled "RELEASE!".
Sky Blitz was launched out of the machine. He flipped over many times before correcting and landing safely. "6.2 seconds." Rainbow Dash said, "Not a record, but very close."
"Who currently holds the record? And how short is it?" Scootaloo asked.
"Beat it and I'll tell you who's record you beat" Rainbow challenged. "And since you're so confident," she added, "you can go next".
Scootaloo flew up to the machine. "Do you want it sped up at all?" Rainbow asked.
"All the way!" she replied.
"Okay" Rainbow said. The machine started to spin Scootaloo. She got very dizzy, very fast. When she was launched, she flipped for about 3 seconds. But she thought that it took longer than the recovery time to get to the ground.
When she got there, her time was announced. "5.8 seconds" said Rainbow Dash. "You beat my record of 6 seconds".
Everyone in the class cheered for Scootaloo. It was her first day and she had already broken 2 records. She felt great.
Scootaloo went to see how Rainbow had reacted to her beating her first day records. When she opened the door, she was met with a greeting from someone other than Rainbow Dash.
"What do you need" the other Wonderbolt asked.
"I was looking for Rainbow Dash" Scootaloo replied.
"She's out right now. Is it anything I can help with?"
"No, I wanted to talk to Rainbow Dash"
"Ok, Goodnight then."
"Goodnight."
She went directly to bed, disappointed that she couldn't talk to Rainbow Dash. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next morning, she went to the dining hall to get breakfast. What she was most interested in was the list that showed who everypony would be working with for the remainder of the class.
When she saw that she and Sky Blitz were together, she was excited. And even more excited when she saw that she was lead pony.
She went over to Sky Blitz to talk before they had to go to class. She found Sky Blitz and sat down next to him.
"Did you see that they made you and me a team?" she asked.
"I know. Isn't it awesome?!" He exclaimed.
"Yeah it is."
"What do you think she'll have us doing today?"
"I don't know. Maybe some kind of obstacle course."
"Come on" he said, finally "Class is about to start." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Outside, the class waited for their instructor to come out. Instead of Rainbow Dash coming out, one of the other Wonder Bolts came out. He was a tall, thin pony, with a light green coat and a spiky, yellow and blue mane. He had light body markings that looked like the wind and his cutie mark was 2 lightning bolts.
He beamed at them. "How is everypony today?" he asked. No one responded.
Just then, Sky Blitz stepped forward and said, "I'm fine, sir." Everypony held their breath. They knew they were never supposed to talk out of turn.
"Finally," he said, exhaling "somepony answers my question. Did you know you are the only person who has responded to my question? And I've been here for a loooooonnnggg time."
Everypony let out a sigh of relief. They thought something bad might happen. Scootaloo thought for a sec he might even get kicked out of the academy. Sky blitz who was in awe, finally spoke, "No, sir, I didn't know."
"Well, now you know." He said "My name is Speed Demon. I'll be your instructor for the week. Maybe even a couple weeks."
"Where's Rainbow Dash?" asked Scootaloo
"She said she had a job to do and it would take at least a week, if not more."
"Oh, Okay."
"Any more questions before we start?" he hesitated, waiting for an answer. "Good, then let's get started." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speed Demon worked them all really hard for the next few days. On top of that Scootaloo spent most of the time meant for drills thinking where Ranibow Dash might be. She knew she crashed on the obstacle course at least 5 times. Not to mention she veered way off course. A lot.
Sky Blitz had obviously taken notice, because when they were done, he asked "Is something wrong Scootaloo?"
"No. Why would there be?"
"Well, you haven't been acting yourself lately."
"What ya talking about?"
"Just toady you crashed into about 15 obstacles on the course. Is something on your mind?"
"Just have been wanting to talk to Rainbow Dash about something."
"You can tell me." His eye looked longingly into mine.
"No. I just want to keep it between Dash and I" she said. "Not that I'm trying to keep a secret..."
"Then why won't you just tell me?" he pressed.
"Can I please tell you another time?"
"Fine" he snapped, and stomped off towards the dorms.
"Great" she said to her self "Now what've I done?"
How will he treat me tomorrow? And how will it effect our performance as a team?
The orange filly walked back to her dorm room, deep in thought. She was trying to analyze what had just happened between her and Sky Blitz. Why should I have to try to think about this? she thought. Should I just tell him, or should I keep it to my self.
She fought her way into a fitful sleep. Even then, she had nightmares. She remember her nightmare of the Rainbow Factory, and she woke up in a cold sweat. It was then she realized where Rainbow was. She couldn't get any more sleep that night
When it was morning the next day, she hastily got dressed, and hurried downstairs to meet Sky Blitz. She got breakfast, and she went to go talk to Sky Blitz. Not to mention, apoligize for running off the previous night. "Hey, Sky Blitz" She said. Sky Blitz just turned his head and refused to acknowledge her. "Come on, Blitz, what's wrong?" She said, desperatly trying to get him to talk to her, "Look, I'm really sorry for last night. I just want to make it up to you. You're my partner. I shouldn't try to keep secrets from you."
"Will you tell tell me what has been bothering you for the past few days? I'm just worried about you. I really like you, you know that?"
"Fine, I'll tell you what's been bothering me. As for your feelings for me, yes I knew, and I really like you too"
"So what's bothering you? Maybe I could help you."
"This really needs to be kept a secret. Why don't we go to my room?"
"Ok, let's go. We have some time before drills"
They finished their breakfast, and went upstairs.
When we got into the room he asked, "Well, what's been bothering you?!"
"Well, at first I just wanted to ask Rainbow a question. I was wondering if I made her made her annoyed by beating her records from when she was here as a student."
"I'd be worried, too. She is my idol, too"
"Well , she's my sister. Anyways, I just realized, she works at the Raibow Factory. That's where she's been."
"What's the Rainbow Factory?"
Crap, she thought, No one else knows about the Rainbow Factory. I'll just make him promise to not tell anyone.
"Ok, I'll tell you, but you have to promise not to tell anyone"
"Fine, I won't tell, but why? Is it something bad?
"Yes, it is. The Rainbow Factory is a place where they take pegasi that failed their flight test. They grind them up and turn them into spectra, the stuff they turn into rainbows."
Sky Blitz tried to fly out of the room, but Scoots was faster. She caught him before he reached the door, and pinned him down. "You promised you wouldn't tell!" She exclaimed.
"Why shouldn't I?"
"I wanted to tell when I first heard, too, but I knew I had to be loyal to her, like she is to me."
"Fine I promise I won't tell"
"Good" she said, stepping off him.
"I only promised because I trust Rainbow"
"I don't care why you promised; only that you keep your promise"
"You have a scout's honor"
"What?"
"A scout's honor" He explained, "In the Boy Scout Law, it says a scout Is trustworthy. I must keep my promise"
"Okay, I trust you"
"Good, but before we go out to practice, can I ask you a question?"
"Sure"
"Remember how I said I really like you"
"Yeah, waht about it?"
"I was wondering if, maybe, you'd go out with me"
Scootaloo hesitated. This was the first time she had been asked out. What do I say? She thought
"Of course I would"
"Really?"
"Why not? I've kind of liked you, too, when I first saw you."
"Really?"
"Yeah"
"Let's go. Speed Demon will be wondering where we went."
Scoots and her new boy friend flew up to Speed Demon to see what the others were doing.
"Where have you two been?! You're a half hour late!"
"We REALLY sorry."
"Sorry won't cut it this time. Every pony stop what you're doing!!!" he yelled, and waited until they were listening "Every pony, I want 100 laps in under 2 hours... by everyone."
Everyone groaned, but, knowing the time had probably already started, took off. After 300 laps, they finally finished.
"Now that That's done, lets get going on the clouds. All of them have to be busted before you eat, if you get to." He yelled at them. With that, they all took off, busting clouds as fast as they could, hoping they would get dinner. When they landed, it was 8:30. Dinner just ended. "Awww, y'all hungry? Too bad!!! And you can thank these two for it"
The class all glared at the orange filly and her blue boyfriend, who was closer to red at that point. "Sorry everypony. Won't happen again."
"Sorry won't cut it" the coach whispered in her ear.
Speed Demon walked back to the office, disappointed with the two kids. They had potential, but they couldn't be this late to class. Later that night, when the rainbow maned pegasus returned, she asked what happened while she was gone. "Your sister and Sky Blitz were half a hour late to class sweetie. What should we do?"
"How'd you punish them?"
"I made them complete 300 laps in under 2 hours. They missed supper"
"That's terrible honey! Think of all the letters of complaint you'll get from all the parents. Some may even want to leave"
"I know, but what was I supposed do?"
"I don't know." She started to kiss the other wonderbolt passionately.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door.
"Quick" Rainbow whispered, "hide"
"Where?" asked Speed Demon.
"In the closet." the rainbow maned mare said. Once he was in, the pony knocked again. "Come in" she called.
Scootaloo walked in looking relieved that Rainbow was there. "Hay Rainbow Dash! Where have you been?"
"You know... I had some stuff to do for the weather factory."
"OK. Well, have you heard that Sky Blitz asked me out?"
"No," said Rainbow, grinning slightly at the orange filly, "but I have heard you were 30 minutes late to class today."
"Look, everyone's already mad that I made them miss dinner. You're not going to be mad about it too, are you?"
"I'm not mad, but I'm not happy either."
"What are you going to do?"
"I don't know yet, but I will have to punish you. You made 16 ponies miss their dinner last night."
"I know and will take any punishment you give me"
"Good, then you shall stay away from your boy friend for the rest of the week. You will only do drills with him, seeing as he is your team mate. Other than that, meals, free time, you will stay away from him. Hopefully this will teach you to be prompt in being to class on time"
Scootaloo had a bewildered look on her face. "You have got to be kidding me. He asked me out just this morning. He was comforting me. I had a secret I wanted to tell you, and he got mad at me when I didn't tell him. We were late to class because it took me a while to explain the secret."
"What was the secret?"
"I forget what the original secret was, but I had another secret. That's what I told him."
"Well, what was it?" Rainbow demanded, getting in the filly's face
"The Rainbow Factory" Scootaloo squeaked, now scared.
Rage filled the cyan mare, but it was more than that. "We'll discuss this later. It's late now. Go to bed."
"Goodnight ma'am"
Rainbow Dash just turned away.
When Scootaloo had left the office, Rainbow let Speed Demon out, and they started to make out again.
"Why did I have to hide?" He asked when they were done
"Because, If people knew two wonder bolts were going out, we wouldn't get any privacy."
"Good point" he said "Who was it?"
"My sister."
"What happened?"
"I ended up having to punish her by splitting up her and Sky Blitz apart from practice."
"Okay... so what? They're in love. Why's that so bad?" asked Speed Demon.
"Them being in a relationship is bad because they'll pay more attention to each other than us." the cyan mare snapped back.
"Oh come on! You and me were brother and sister and we payed more attention to our superiors than each other. How can we prove they won't be good and listen?"
"Being siblings is different. I mean, look at us now. We're in a relationship and we're still focused on work. They're kids. They'll act totally different than us."
"Fine," said Speed Demon, sounding exasperated "let's talk about something else. Why were you so mad at Scoots just before she left?"
He must have been asking all the wrong questions, because she started turn from her normal cyan to blazing red. "She revealed one of my deepest, darkest secrets to her 'colt friend'"
"And what might that be?"
"Why would I tell you?!" She screamed at the top of her lungs.
He could have sworn her tail was about to start on fire from anger. But he still replied as if she hadn't yelled. "Because I am your colt friend and I think I deserve to know. Not to mention, I'm your brother."
"Fine," she said, turning back to her normal color, "I'll tell you,but you have to keep it a secret."
"Ok then. I won't say a word."
"I work at the Rainbow Factory."
"You mean the one our mother told us to scare us into obedience?"
"The same, but we don't take fillies who don't act well... we take the ones that can't fly."
His reaction was immediate, and almost the same of that of Sky Blitz. He took off and flew as fast as he could to the door, mind racing with what he had just heard. He had to get out and tell someone, but Rainbow Dash was too fast. She caught him just before he reached the door and got him pinned down. "You promised you wouldn't tell!" she yelled, turning red again.
"I didn't expect this!" Speed Demon said, punching out with one hoof. His hoof met it's target, cracking the rainbow maned mare's nose. He felt a thick sticky liquid drip onto his coat from above. Feeling the pressure from above release, he wiggled his way out from under her and ran from the office screaming for help.
"Well... this sucks" Rainbow said to herself, holding her nose that was still bleeding. She heard his calls fade away as he ran down the halls. She knew she'd have to leave as soon as possible. This all happened because of Scootaloo. If she didn't tell Sky Blitz, I wouldn't have had to tell Speed Demon, who just had to run of and tell everypony else.
You weren't forced to tell him, now were you? a voice said in her head, mockingly. Ironically, it sounded like the orange filly she was mad at in the first place.
What would you have done? she asked it rhetorically. Not hearing a response, she went to pack her stuff, knowing other ponies were bound to have heard Speed Demon’s screaming.
When the light blue colt had gotten back to the office, he saw the mare who was once his mare friend already packed and leaving. “You don’t have to go.” he said, trying to persuade her to stay.
The magenta eyes of the mare just glared at him, as she growled, “And what? Get turned in? I’m not that stupid… or is that how you think of me? Some stupid girl you can take advantage of? Guess what! You were wrong!” She ended screaming.
“That’s not at all-” was all he could get out before he was cut off.
“I don’t want to hear it. I’ve heard enough. I’m outta here.” By now she was crying. She took off towards the window. Speed Demon dived in attempt to stop the cyan mare but missed by a nose length.
She flew off into the blackness of the night, Speed Demon right behind her. She was too fast for him, and easily evaded him. She was on her way back to her house over ponyville, remembering her super-soft cloud bed.
While she was on her way there, on the edge of the everfree forest she was attacked by some shadowy figures. She fought back until she realized who they were, and why they were attacking her. “STOP! You don’t need to attack. I’m not a Wonderbolt any more.”
“Then, will you join us?” asked the leader. “Where else do you have to go?”
“Lots of places, but what’s in it for me if I do join you?”
“You teach us, you can be our leader.”
“Teach you what?”
“You know what us Shadowbolts want. Battle moves.” chuckled the leader. “You know the Wonderbolts. You know how to beat them. ”
What do I do?! she wondered, almost freaking. Scoots is there. And Speed Demon.
Wait! Speed Demon!
“I tell you what. I know another Wonderbolt who might be willing to work for you. If… you pay him.”
“How would we pay him? We don’t have any money.”
“I’ll pay you. You let me go, I’ll give you money and send my guy.”
“Fine.”
“Here’s your money to pay him, and he’ll be out here tomorrow.”
“You better keep your promise.” the leader snarled. With that, and a puff of black smoke, they disappeared.
It was 2:00 AM when Rainbow made it back to the dorms, and when she got to her room, there was someone waiting for her. “I knew you’d come back.”
“How’d you know bitch.”
“Come on, how’d I not know where my big sis is. She was my role model… as a kid. But that’s over now that I know the truth.”
“I suppose you know where I went too then. Stalker.”
“Why in the hell would I stalk a murderer like you when I have all the evidence I need?”
“What evidence?”
“You said it your self. You work for the Rainbow Factory.”
“And people would believe this, why?” She could see the sweat beading on Speed’s forehead. She had him right where she wanted him. All she had to do was prove he couldn’t prove her guilty. “You don’t even have proof I said it.”
“Crap” he murmured to himself. Why does she have to be so smart sometimes?Now what do I say?
“I thought you might not want to work for me any more, so I’ve found you another job like this one. Pays better too.” She said glaring at him, waiting for him to leave.
“Why didn’t you take it then?”
“I have all the money I need. Besides, this is where I belong, where I’m destined to be.”
“Destined to what? Murder more children, maybe even in this school? Why would I let you do that?”
“I’m quitting. Come next shipment of fillies, I’ll stay here. ”
“That still doesn’t prove you won’t kill these kids”
“Why would I kill them when their classmates might notice? Come on, you know I can use my common sense.”
“You haven’t shown it lately. Have you ever thought what they’d do when they saw you missing?” It was now Speed Demon’s turn to make his partner sweat. It was his turn to finish her off, and he had plans to do the job better.
She only had to think for a moment or two before answering “When they find out, they come to attack me.”
This caught him off guard. “What about the students? Surely you wouldn’t put them in danger.”
“This training serves dual purposes, if I remember correctly. Moves for style and fighting” She said, satisfying her point. “Good night.” she called back, but Speed Demon had already left.
Waking up, the two young lovers kept their promise to their teacher. All they did was go to class together. Other than that, they shared no other social contact.
The whole week seemed to be filled with battle training. It was as if they were preparing for some kind of battle. It wasn’t until later in the week until they heard what they were getting ready for.
“Hello students.” the captain’s voice resonated from the intercom. “As many of you have noticed we have been doing a lot of combat training lately.”
“So we’re not the only ones getting it.” Scoots whispered to Sky, their punishment being over. She couldn’t even remember what the punishment was for.
“I would like to let you know there is reason behind this.”
“I should hope there was. How are we supposed to work together if we can’t talk?” It was Blitz whispering this time, but with a mouthful of food.
“We have been notified that the school will be attacked sometime this week. We’re not sure when, but it could be at any time. Even over the weekend. We will alert you when we know more about the situation. Thank you for your time, and you may resume your dinner.”
As soon as the intercom crackled off, everypony started talking.
“What’s goin’ on?” “Who’s attacking?” “Why would they attack a school?”
Sky Blitz and Scootaloo would have loved to say they were as clueless as everypony else, but if they did, they’d be lying. The fact was that they did have a thought as to who’d be attacking and why.
‘My sister works for the Rainbow Factory.’ The words rang in Blitz’s ears, seemingly haunting him. I have to be dating the one girl whose sister not only is the captain of the Wonderbolts. She also works for a facility that kills helpless young pegasi. What the hell have I gotten myself into?
“You thinkin’ what I’m thinkin’?” He asks his marefriend.
“Eyuuuuuuup” She answers
“Should we go somewhere else to talk?”
“Eyuuuuuuup”
“Let’s go then” he said. He wrapped his wing around her as they went to dump their trays and went up stairs to discuss the inevitable.
“Really? The Rainbow Factory staff?”
“Why not” asked Scootaloo rhetorically
“What reason do they have to?”
“Somepony from here quit?”
“Do you think your sister quit?”
“For our safety, yes. Anyways, who else could it be?”
"Welcome everypony. As much as we'd like to tell you more, we've already told you all we know." Came the voice of their captain. "We who it'll be, or when they will attack. An anonymous source has only told us we would be attacked."
"Do we have to risk our lives?" Someone called out.
"I was getting to that. Any pony who does not wish to be a part of the defense may leave now. But know this, we chose you for a reason. All of you have been chosen as the best young flyers. You have the ability to be great ponies. We'd be honored to have any of you beside us in battle."
Instantly, two ponies from the crowd stepped forward. One had a bright orange coat and magenta mane. The other was a dark blue all over, but his mane was a bit deeper. "We'll stay to fight! " said the orange one.
"Here we are! Our first fighters. And I couldn't be prouder to have one as my sister." As she said this, a slew of other ponies joined in, joining the cause. A few stranglers flew away, not willing to risk their lives.
As soon as they were sure they had picked out all the ponies who were still willing to fight, Rainbow spoke again. "You are all very brave, but that doesn't mean the others are cowards. They just weren't as ready and willing to sacrifice as you were.
"Battle training begins after lunch. Be sure you get enough to eat. Today's workout will be especially draining. We'll also be getting up earlier to get more drills in. You'll need them."
Every pony started heading back to their rooms when Rainbow cried out, "Wait!" She hustled over to the group. "I have one more thing to tell you. A secret no pony else must know." Everypony nodded.
"I know who is attacking us." She whispered
"WHO!" Cried everypony
"Shhhhhhh. It's The Rainbow Factory."
"You expect us to believe that? That's just an old mares tale." Some pony from the crowd said
Rainbow just laughed. "Of course. I'd forgotten that you were all told it as a bedtime story. It's real alright. I worked there. That's how I know."
The mood grew suddenly somber as she stared into the crowd, no trace of her joking in her eyes. No pony dared to speak. All there was left to do was eat and train.
Rainbow wasn't kidding when she said there would be more and harder drills. It wasn't until late that Blitz and Scoots got some time alone. They were two of the few to be able to keep up with the drills, and each other. Now it was just them, and this was the time they loved the most.
They both fell into the one bed they'd been sleeping in. "I love you." They said as they kissed. They were no longer new to this feeling.
When their lips parted, they didn't say any thing. Only stated into the others eyes. Finally, they fell asleep in each others arms, their breathing in sync and their hearts beating in unison.
It was about three in the morning when the alarms went off. Every pony was ready though. They had planned for months for this, and were ready to respond at a moment's notice. Both of them were out of the bedas soon as the alarm went off and we're getting dressed. Even if their reactions were faster than most ponies, they were not the first out.
Even Celestia's sun could not have lit this battlefield. Ponies covered the skies, all in uniform. Wonderbolt and Rainbow Factory uniforms were not the only clothing seen though. There were Shadowbolt uniforms scattered all over the place.
"Shadowbolts now? Wow. Your life is just a storybook isn't it?"
"Yup," Scootaloo sighed, "Pretty much" but she couldn't talk for long. It wasn't safe, so she took off into the fight. She was stopped by a shout from her boyfriend.
"Promise me you'll come back to me." It wasn't a question, but a command.
She went over and kissed him for possibly the last time. "As long as you promise the same to me." And with that they were off to fight, side by side, in the fight for not only their lives, but those of their fellow students and future attendees
