This story is a small love story between Rainbow Dash and Thunderlane. Rainbow Dash is done with relation ships after an incident in Canterlot. Thunderlane really cares about Rainbow Dash and hopes to change her mind.
Rainbow Dash is the type of mare who doesn't really care about being in a relationship. No one understands why, especially Rarity. Rainbow Dash meets with one of her fillyhood friends, and sees that he, unlike everyone else, understands why Rainbow Dash doesn't really care about relationships. He wants to know why she doesn't want to be in a relationship.
Tonight was like any other night. The moon shining, stars out, owls whoing. All ponies in bed, all except one. This pony was unlike all the others. She was a pegasus and she loved flying. She won the Best Young Flyers Competition, and is the fastest flyer in Equestria. If you haven't guessed already, it's Rainbow Dash.
She wasn't at her cloud home, because she couldn't sleep. She needed to clear her head, so she went out for a late night fly. She knew everypony was asleep, so she couldn't really do any of her tricks. She was already upset about what happened in Canterlot a few months ago, so she just wanted it to be morning to get her mind off of it. The same words she heard that day were still ligering in her mind like an annoying echo that wouldn't go away. She didn't tell any of her friends, because she didn't want them to get 'involved' in anything.
Rainbow Dash saw a small glint of light and something, or somepony, getting flung in the opposite direction. "What is that?" Rainbow Dash flew as fast as she could to see what the mystery object or pony was.

Just as Rainbow Dash got to the location, it was obvious that it was a pony. She flew towards the ground to see who it was, when the pony flew out of sight. Rainbow dash squinted her eyes,"Who is that?" She let out a big yawn,"I'll find out tomorrow."
It was about 7:30 A.M. Rainbow Dash barley woke up. She loked at her alrm clock in shock. "Aw, what! Only 7:30! Might as well get up." Rainbow Dash showered and headed for the skies. She remembered what had happened last night and went back to the same location. On her way over, she noticed the place was pretty much deserted. She saw a light and smoke from the ground. She quickly went down before the pony got up. "Hello?" Rainbow Dash was waving the smoke out of the way. "Ow, my head." "Hello?" Once Rainbow Dash saw who it was, she had the biggest smile on her face. It was one of her fillyhood friends. "Thunderlane?" "Rainbow Dash?" Thunderlane squinted to make sure he had the right pony. After he could clearly see who it was he stood up. "Rainbow Dash!" "Hey!" Rainbow Dash was really excited so she hugged him. "What are you doing?"
Thunderlane was recovering from his crash landing. "I'm trying to break the sound barrier." He was trying to sound like he had it under control, but Rainbow Dash obviously knew that he was having trouble. Thunderlane wanted to break the sound barrier to see what it would look like. He was having trouble, because he wasn't focused. He also wanted to do it so he could show his little brother, Rumble. Rumble said that he wanted to see a pony break the sound barrier, and Thunderlane wanted to be the one to do it. "Having trouble?" "No, I got it." "Alright then, show me." "W-what?" "You said that you got, so show me."
Thunderlane had a worried look on his face when Rainbow Dash said this. He's had a crush on Rainbow Dash since summer flight camp. Rainbow Dash was the pony at the camp who actually talked to Thunderlane. Of course, she made fun of him occasionally, because she had a reputation to keep, supposubly. "Alright, fine." Thunderlane went into position and took off. Rainbow Dash had a smile on her face, because she knew he was going to have trouble. A white cone formed around Thunderlane, he kept thinking about everything instead focusing on the barrier. At that point, he was flung backwards. He was now looking up at Rainbow Dash. "I need help."
"Okay. Thunderlane you have to focus. Focus on something that would make you want to fly faster than ever." "Uhh..." "Well, like I saved my friend and the Wonderbolts from falling from Cloudsdale to Ponyville." "Oh, okay. Hold on let me think." Thunderlane as thinking of a situation. He looked at Rainbow Dash And got his focus. "Okay, I think i got it."
Thunderlane and Rainbow Dash both took off. Thunderlane was thinking of the scenario, and almost broke the barrier. He turned his head saw Rainbow Dash almost breaking the barrier too. Then, he was stuck and was flung backwards again. Rainbow Dash on the other hand (or hoof), Did her legendary sonic rainboom. "Wow." "Awesome right?" "No duh! You just did a sonic Rainboom!" Rainbow Dash did a little laugh. "Thanks?"
Thunderlane wanted to know a lot about Rainbow Dash. He hasen't seen her in forever! He could tell she wanted to know about him as well. "So... how've you been?" "Fine, you?" "Fine." "Um.. Do you have anypony in your life at the moment?" "Like a coltfriend?" Thunderlane was kind of nervous. "Uh, ya." "No, not anymore." "Oh what happened?" Thunderlane was actually curious. He really liked Rainbow Dash, and wanted to know what happened between her and whatever his name is. "His name's Starlight. I.. um, I" Rainbow Dash was obviously upset. "Hey it's okay." Thunderlane wiped a tear fro Rainbow Dash's face. "I'm not really a relationship person anymore." "Oh okay." Thunderlane didn't like seeing Ranbow Dash upset. Suddenly, he had an idea he was pretty sure would work. 'I think I can change your mind, Rainbow Dash.'
"Hey Thunderlane." "Midnight!" Thunderlane shouted at his friend Midnight Streak. "What what!" Midnight yelled in surprise. Midnight was a more quiet and shy stallion. "I need your help."
Thunderlane was explaining to Midnight what had happened earlier that morning. He was telling about Rainbow Dash, and how he had a plan. Midnight, of course, didn't think he should go through with it. Every plan that Thunderlane has ever had has ended the same way, failure. "That won't happen this time." Thunderlane try to reassure his friend so that he could get help for his plan.
Rainbow Dash was laughing at Twilight. She was about to tell Twilight why she dare be up so early, when she was suddenly hit by a pink blur. "RAINBOW DASH!!!" "What Pinkie?!" Pinkie took a huge breath, "There's a new pony in town named Midnight Streak and I need to throw him a party NOWW!!" She was gasping for air by now. "Then throw him a party then." "Oooohhh! Good Idea!" Pinkie then bounced away with a smile on her face. "So, why are you up so early again?" "Oh, right."
Rainbow Dash was explaining to Twilight what had happened. Once She mentioned Thunderlane's name, Twilight actually became interested in Rainbow Dash's story. "So, that's pretty much what happened." Rainbow Dash "accidentaly" left out a few details of her story. Twilight kept asking Rainbow Dash questions. Some were just a little too personal. "I think we should go help Pinkie with her party."
"Okay, so do you understand the plan?" "Midnight?"
Midnight had taken an early nap while Thunderlane was explaining his "master plan." He had explained this to Midnight almost three times already! He started to get annoyed, so he tried one last time. "MIDNIGHT!!" "Huh!? What, what do you want?" "Okay, I'm going to explain this one more time." Thunderlane looked at his friend to make sure he stayed awake. "Alright, since there is word that one of Rainbow Dash's friends is throwing you a party, we're both going." "I'm sorry, what?" "Just hear me out. You are going to befriend Rainbow Dash, and get to know her. Then you will bring me up and say good things about me, no screwing around. You will then give me the signal. You will flare your wings and pretend to stretch. I'll come over and we'll start talking. You will leave, we'll talk more, then BOOM! She's mine." "I see one flaw in your plan." "And what's that." "What if I forget to flare my wings? Or if I don't become friends with her right away? What're you going to do if that happens?" "Don't worry none of that is going to happen."
Midnight wasn't so sure if that was true. He was often forgetful, and he wasn't the best at making friends on the spot. If he screwed this up he just knew Thunderlane would hate him forever.
