Sometime in April (2012), I decided to give MLP: FIM a shot, not really sure why, possibly because I had seen episodes in some popular categories, possibly because I was bored and wanted something to watch, possibly because I had some vague notion of a popularity and community behind the show. Anyways, I found the show highly entertaining and pretty much ended up watching all the episodes available at the time within a couple of days or so. Watching all the episodes led to watching related videos, like Friendship is Witchcraft, Phoenix Wright / MLP: Turnabout Storm, other parodies/ fan generated content especially all the fanmade music. One of the first songs I found was Discord (TheLivingTombstone Remix), and needless to say it is awesome. One interesting effect that MLP had was with my discovery of The Adventures of Doctor Whooves. I had sort of known that Doctor Who was a TV show, but wasn't really interested in it, but for curiosities sake I tried it. I started at the 1964 episodes, but after around 30 or so I decided to fast forward until the 2005 reboot of it. I enjoyed the series and watched the newer series with obsessive like qualities to finish the available episodes within two weeks.

I worked up the courage to try fanfiction (Personally I had the opinion before that all fan written fiction was an abomination, and was probably all trash/ really badly written... I have never been so glad to be so wrong) by stumbling onto a dramatic reading of My Little Dashie. The video reading had only a part of it, so I ended up reading it. I didn't cry but it was beautifully written. Soon after I stumbled upon Fimfiction.net. The first session I spent on reading was about 20 hours long (minus minor food and bio breaks) and soon after registered for Fimfiction. I've been reading stuff on the site for generous amounts of time (especially if I find something interesting with lots of words) ever since. Currently I'm considering/ compiling ideas on writing my own piece of work, most likely just for fun.
