"A good character is one that you enjoy writing. A great character is one that can still give you a few surprises as you go."

I've always been fond of starting anything I create off with a quote of some kind, whether my own devising or one who's wisdom I find worth it to retell. The above is one of the former and its wisdom is questionable, but I believe in it wholeheartedly. Such is the way I write these works of fiction, letting my characters take the reins of the world they live in. It's only proper, after all.

Oh, where are my manners? My name is J.C. Bell, aspiring author and sometime artist, at your service. I'd take a bow, but somehow I don't believe that would translate well through text. At any rate, I imagine you're reading this bit of text below my name to find out more about me and I, an ever arrogant troubadour, will oblige your curiosity.

At the tender age of six years old, I created my first 'book', such as it was. It was about an Oddish, a name many of you former Pokemon masters might recognize, looking to make friends with other of the pocket monsters in her area. Seven pages it was, full of illustration and a few lines of text on each. My parents oohed and ahhed, of course, which only stimulated my creativity. Fast forward ten years and I had several short stories under my belt, each longer and more impressive than the last. I spent time on a forum dedicated to teaching authors to write, a strict and taxing crucible that churned me into the writer I am today.

You may think me pompous, spouting such things as if I were the cock of the walk, but there is no need. I am well aware that I am still only a beginner on the scale of authors who delve into worlds of their own making and coax the multitudes of tales from their characters. Yet I have still written a novel sized work of fiction, fan though it was. Gears of War: Haunted Echoes. 280 pages long, would it have been in a paperback book. My pride and joy for a year.

Then I created Unmarked and at the time of this writing, it has reached past the eighty-one thousand words that Haunted Echoes achieved to a staggering 104,000 word story and it is only now beginning to reach toward the climax. I suspect it will end up at 150,000, my goal.

And after that? Who knows, I may do a sequel. Or perhaps I'll reach into a universe of my own making and enjoy the stories it tells me so that I can share them with all of you.

But that's the future and this is just a small biography. Keep writing, whomever you are. It's a wonder few enough in this world experience.

Good day good sir. I came by to thank you for your quality analysis to my little piece, only to further enjoy a bit more information about you. I get the feeling you an I may have more than a few things in common. In any event, just sayin' hello :)

Cheers

Strive

Appleoosa was created by the sweat of earth pony brows, stubbornness and more than a few bits. Now that Braeburn’s seen his dream come true, the investors have sent a pony representing their interests.

Turns out, Appleoosa ain’t the money maker they were looking for and they've come to Braeburn with an ultimatum: pay back their investment or lose the town he helped work so hard to build.

Unmarked

(5-Star on Equestria Daily!) Purpose. In Equestria, where purpose is defined by the mark on your flank, it is often taken for granted. Yet Novell has grown to adulthood without a single explanation of where he fits in. It's not until a chance meeting with a particular Professor that he gets the opportunity to explore the world and find out exactly where he belongs. Ten words.

I've only written ten words in the last eight weeks. For Unmarked, anyway. The conclusion is still far away. I don't know when I'll finish it.

I'm working on a short story featuring Braeburn. It's around 5,000 words long right now. It should be the next release.

A Missing Note hasn't been worked on much. I've put in a little here and there, but the next chapter is only halfway done.

Professor Search's Logbook is out, as some of you know. I haven't worked on the second part of either of the short stories I put in there.

I haven't been writing much, lately. College is partially to blame, but mostly, it's just that I'm lazy. I can't summon the motivation to continue, even with you few fans who cheer me on. Unmarked hasn't been extremely popular, ever, and I definitely run on people enjoying my work. Maybe that's another reason I've slowed down.

But it's definitely mostly because I'm lazy.

Still... Professor Search's Logbook. I have a proposition for you who has read this far. Would you like to write a short story for it, with Unmarked characters? If you do, I'll add it to the compendium. I'll work with you to make sure it stays within the bounds of my 'lore'. You can create a story with any character. I already have some expressing interest in doing so before, so why not open it to the public?

If you want to, message me, and we'll work on it. Maybe working with you will even spur me on to finish Unmarked.

I am pretty lazy, though.
