How do you decide that a story is worth your up-vote or down-vote?
What criteria do you use?
Does it have to be perfectly edited, colorfully written, and have an engaging storyline before it is worthy of your thumbs-up?
Do you have to believe that the material could be published before you turn up a friendly card?

New chapter has been sent to TheGreatEater for pre-reading. I'm ready to publish, but I will be patient. This chapter: "Cold and Afraid" focuses on Millstone and his background/motivation. It was a bit difficult for me, as the story Millstone tells is familiar to me. As such, I think I kept losing touch with the characters. It is a non-shipping Alicorn Applejack and Rarity story that I have titled: "Princess of the Sun". Focused on Applejack as the new Princess of the Sun, and Rarity has taken the place of Luna as the Princess of the Moon. I'm hoping to keep it short, (relatively) and release it as a completed work. Chapter four will follow shortly, now that I no longer have to worry that Tiara (Silver Chalice) will be contradicting elements of the story already written.

Recently re-heard the song: "The Red Strokes" by, Garth Brooks.
Maybe it was because I was a little sleepy, (first song played on my alarm clock that morning) or maybe it was just matching my mood a bit, but I was finding myself emotionally drawn in and affected by the poetic lyrics. I could do little more at that moment than lie there, mesmerized by the emotions and the scenes evoked by that song.
