3 weeks ago I took down the 3 chapters I had and re posted them as 5 chapters and a prologue. Since then I've been sick so I haven't been able to post any more but it offers the chance to examine the effects of breaking the story into smaller chapters.
Before I re-posted I had about 230 views, 160 of those were for chapter 1 meaning only about 1 in 6 people who read ch 1 moved on to read ch 2 (originally ch 1 was over 17,000 words.) The first 2 weeks after the re-post, more then two thirds of people who read the prologue moved on, however over this last week that ratio has gradually declined to only about about half. On the upside, once someone reads ch 1 there is virtually a 100% (at least 96%) rate of finishing the rest of the story.
Conclusions: breaking chapter 1 into three parts was a good idea but the prologue still needs some work. (Suggestions are welcome.)
(Note: there were other modifications such as the first section of the prologue being added and the paragraphs being double lined, and some general proofreading.
I hope to have some new chapters up soon. Sry about the delay
I had noticed from the views that Ch 1 had about 165 views but the other chapters had about 60 between them meaning only about 1/6 of people who read chapter one moved on.
I figured people would be more willing to start reading 5,000 words at a time then 17,000 (I also added some action at the beginning of the prologue and cleaned up some general mistakes ect.)
PS. I keep all my old drafts so if there was something you liked in the older version ask and I'll send it to you.
