  To improve my skills as a writer, as well as make a little money on the side, I've decided to start doing commissions. I figured the price would be at $.02 a word, I would ask for half up front, send them half of the completed story, and if the person commissioning me likes the work, I'll take the rest and let them have the other half of the story.
