Other Artwork, part 1 · 4:27am Jan 21st, 2021

As discussed previously, I've worked with a number of artists to do commission cover art for each of the ten stories in The Quicksilver Chronicles.  But I've had other artwork done too.  Some have been free.  For example, responding to someone offering free artwork just for something to work on.  And some has been paid, because I thought it would be interesting or fun. I wanted to highlight a few of them since they won't be seen as part of any story cover art.

Story Teasers · 2:27am Jan 14th, 2021

"After a millennia an ancient evil returns to Equestria.
But how do you defeat an evil that is immortal?"

So what's the most important part of publishing a story?

Publishing Order · 4:54am Jan 7th, 2021

If you have a series of stories (10 in this case), what order should you publish them in?

  • The order written
  • Chronological (when the story takes place)
  • Some relational order (for example, where sequels are published together even if they take place far apart in the chronology)
  • Some other logical (?) order

And then what order should the reader read them?

  • Published order
  • Chronological
  • Some other order

Cover Art, part 2 · 7:15pm Dec 30th, 2020

My first commission experience wasn't very positive. We communicated over e-mail which isn't very good for interactive discussion. But things progressed. When we got close to the end, they stopped responding. So I treated the last revision as final, and gave up. It wasn't bad, but in the end it didn't "feel" right, so I didn't use it for anything.

Cover Art, part 1 · 2:52am Dec 24th, 2020

Unfortunately, my artistic skill is so low I can't even draw an anatomically correct stick-figure ("Wait, is that three arms?"). So I was going to need some help. It seemed like supporting a few artists to get some cover art was a good deal, so I started a search.

Pre-Read and Editing · 5:31pm Dec 16th, 2020

Once you have a story (or ten) completed, you have to get them ready to publish.  Yes, you can just throw them up as is, but creating a quality story probably needs a few sets of additional eyes on it.

The Quicksilver Chronicles · 4:30am Dec 10th, 2020

Now that I had two new characters Quicksilver and Mist Skimmer (Misty), I developed a number of one paragraph story treatments. The stories were generally action/adventure of the go-there/do-that variety. There were some false-starts where I'd start working on a story, then stop to work on a different one. But eventually I completed one:  High Water Mark.  Soon after, a second story was done:  One of Us.  This was late August or early September.

It's a Slippery Slope · 3:31am Dec 3rd, 2020

Early this year (2020) my wife and I started watching MLP:FiM for the first time. We followed that with EG. We enjoyed them enough that we immediately started over at S01E01. If you're on this site, I probably don't need to explain why, you already get it.
