I've always found it amazing that when I try to write something, whether its the start of a new story or a new chapter, I always stumble over the first 500 or so words before I hit my stride and then it flows out of me like water. It takes me at least a half hour to write the first 500 then I look down about another half hour later and I'm between 1500 to 2000 words. It's quite the startling realization.
