The mane characters of the show are not ponies but Zebra, I just thought is an intersting idea. Also if you could have them all speak in rhyme like Zecora down while maintaining their personalities that would be really cool.

I think that Twilight is part of the Noble House of Light, not Sparkle think about Nightlight, two Twilight's and even Shining is a reference to light reflecting off a surface so it makes the most sense in fact Starlight and Twilight may be distant cousins.
