What are the limits to which we can stretch ourselves when we write? For a setting such as FiM, where the fantastical is the ordinary and the everyday, is there a limit to which we can stretch our suspension of disbelief? Even with appropriate justifications present, can we make something that is too fantastical for FiM?

Have you ever sat down to write a story and found yourself asking "Has someone else already done this?" Does it impact your decisions to write something if you know that someone else has already done it? Do you try to one-up them? Present a different take on the same/a similar concept? Or do you choose not to write because you don't think you could do a better job than they did?

A combination of writer's block and real life have gotten the better of me for the time being.
