Self-assessment time! · 1:04am Mar 7th, 2014

I'm going to take a look at the stories I have up on FIMFiction and say what I really think of them. This may turn out to be spectacularly boring but hey, it's my blog!

A non-spoilery observation on "Pinkie Apple Pie" · 11:48pm Jan 11th, 2014

This, ladies and gentlemen of FIMFiction... this is why there shouldn't be an absolute block on applying both the "Adventure" and the "Slice of life" tags to the same story. Today's episode of the show, had it been written as a fic, would absolutely have qualified for both.

The problem with poetry · 12:59am Jan 10th, 2014

I bet you thought I was going to do this blog post in rhyme. Come on, admit it: you did, didn't you? Thought so.

My BUCK flashfic story is now up. but... · 3:34pm Oct 22nd, 2013

...for the moment at least, it's not up here, on account of its insufficient word count (about 600). When I think of another short-short to do, I might start an anthology and make it one chapter. For now, though, the easiest way for you to read Fishy Business is to go here and read it on ye olde FF.net -- which, for all its problems, doesn't refuse to appreciate that most poetry is under 1,000 words!

And now it's written! But... · 7:09pm Oct 6th, 2013

...it's 600 words. That's too short to be accepted as a story here in its own right* but really too long just to put up as a blog post. I suppose I could start off a collection of short pieces, but to do that I'd need to write at least one other thing to get the whole over the 1,000 word mark! So I'm not really sure what to do with it. But yes, I've written a poem featuring llamas, piranhas and pyjamas in conditions as close as possible to BUCK's, ie from scratch in longhand in 45 minutes. I've

BUCK was fun · 10:59pm Aug 30th, 2013

Yes, I know, I know. But sometimes you have to. Anyway, it was fantastic on the whole. I even wrote a poem! Which was actually not a brilliant piece, but as I did it in 45 minutes for the flash fic contest, and as it had to contain llamas, piranhas and pyjamas, I'm quite pleased I managed to do it at all! At some point I may see whether I can remember enough of the plot to work it into something worth posting here. As my poetry:prose ratio is currently 2:2, that would nudge verse into the lead.

I do still exist, yes · 1:49am Mar 1st, 2013

All sorts of things have been going on in my personal life over the last few months, so FIMF hasn't really been high on my agenda. However, I have not abandoned the thought of writing anything else here. I still have the story I mentioned last time, and as it doesn't feature Twilight the S3 finale shouldn't change things. It's set in late S2 in any case. Will it ever appear? Your guess is as good as mine!

So, what now? · 2:38am Sep 17th, 2012

The answer to that is: probably, a return to the Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash short story I started a long time ago. I'd like to explore a bit more of their relationship in the way "Hurricane Fluttershy" sees it, rather than in a shippy way.

Yay, it's the infamous "Equestria Daily rejected me" blog post! · 3:53pm Sep 11th, 2012

Well, that was an interesting experience. A friend suggested that I should submit The Ballad of Wyverns' Rock to Equestria Daily. I took quite a bit of persuading, since it seemed quite a daunting prospect, but in the end I agreed, partly on the grounds that it was something a bit different from the norm. (Which turned out to be one of the problems.) I was prepared for it to be rejected, since an awful lot of submissions are rejected, but I did genuinely believe it had a chance; I
